Wow 2.5% returns over how many years? - not great !

You would be better served addressing your concerns to the owners of €20 billion in Ulster Bank deposits looking for a new home. Or €16 billion in Credit Unions who do not know until the end of each year whether they will get any interest. Or vast amounts in other schemes paying little or no interest. Prize Bonds are only just over €4 billion, and many bond holders will have diverse portfolios. But we are the only group on these forums who get lectured to for being foolish with our money.

Like others new to this thread, you completely miss the point of prize bonds.

For most people who use them they’re not seen as any kind of investment (despite the name of this thread) or a way of matching inflation. And I’m not sure anyone would say it’s the best place to keep your money long term.

What prize bonds offer is simply somewhere to put your money until you need it. There’s been plenty of people who have a timeline of buying a house in the next 1-2 years or whatever and put their cash in pb’s for that period.

Take your own advice and go to any financial advisor. If you find one that says put your house deposit (or if you’re a cash buyer etc) into an investment fund that they personally recommend, then run out the door fast!

I see a lot of long term holders, just think its a bad investment for the long term. You put money in in 2017 and you take out the exact amount in 2022. Who is winnning here?

Quit trolling. You can make 2.5% a day, then lose 50% next week in your Netflix investment.

Any of us with sense know that this is a store of cash, not an investment.

And right now, more than ever, having cash on hand (at 1 week request) ain't a bad move.

Nothing for me today. Referring back to the PF €50K winner in Louth on 27 May, I looked back over the last few draws, because I have the impression of seeing that holding winning regularly.

    06 May nothing.

    13 May €50 PF255576

    20 May €50 PF262767

    27 May €50 PF260300 and €50,000 PF263787.

    03 June nothing.

    10 June €50 PF265063

That is an example of a holding possibly as low as €60K winning more than their expected annual return in only a few weeks. Not taking account of the €50K.

The 2021 annual report now online: https://www.statesavings.ie/media/pdf/prizebonds_annualreport_2021.pdf

Not directly related to the report, but on previous occasions when they cut the rate they have used the following rationale:

“The new rates reflect the reductions in interest rates in the savings market and in Sovereign bond yields generally.”

"The new issues and interest rates reflect changes across the retail savings market and the fall in the cost of borrowing by the State."

Sovereign bond yields / cost of borrowing by state is now 2.3%, a level last seen in 2014-2015 when the prize bond rate was 1.25%.

The retail savings market (i.e. the interest rate offered by banks on savings) has not moved and is in most cases worse than the 0.35% prize bond rate but ECB interest rate increases should soon change that.

Any bets on when the NTMA will increase the rate from 0.35% and to what?

Sales in 2021 €660.554 million. Cashed in €327.663 million. Value of fund at year end, €4,442.6 million. Page 22 of the Report.

This is what I wrote in post #7875 page 263. I was close.

"I got my new bonds from the 30 December 2021 draw. I also won on the first draw of the year 04 January 2021. Taking the difference between the serial numbers, I would put the sales for 2021 at around €665 million. The Annual Report with the figures will be later this year.

Sales in 2020 were €735 million, a record figure. 2019 a "normal" year sales were €537 million."

Something odd about the February 2021 sales €81.443 million. Way ahead of any other month, and not something seen in February in other years. Since the reduction in prizes took effect on 05 February 2021, if anything I would have expected low sales that month.

New enclosure with the reinvested bonds I got 23 June. BAR bonds. I can't find a link to it.

"Coming Soon. We are updating the design of the Prize Bond certificate.

The new Prize Bond certificates will be issued on A4 recycled paper and will contain the same information as the original bond certificates including Bond Numbers and investment value.

Customers can retain the certificate for reference of their Prize Bonds numbers.

In future it will be optional to return bond certificates when requesting repayment or transfer. If not returning certificates with a request, simply quote the relevant Prize Bonds numbers on the request."

I received the same enclosure. Only State Savings could come with something so stupidly half baked. Why not just eliminate the paper altogether - and add the very considerable cost of producing it, distributing it and handling it to the prize fund ?

I filled my repayment form during the week to cash in my 40k batch but waited for the big draw today for the €250,000 top prize but no luck, nothing for me today, I'II still have 60k with 3 batches 10k 20k 30k, cashing in the 40k.

A lucky Westmeath holder of bond JZ557427 won the €250k.

June count. The same 17 million bonds AZW to BAM. All €50 prizes.

Friday 03 122 prizes, highest AZW 12, lowest BAB and BAE 3 each.

    10 117, AZX, BAA 10. BAD, BAI 3.

    17 122 BAG 12, BAK 2.

    24 103 BAB 12, BAF, BAL 2.

    Highest overall 36 AZW (12, 9, 7, 8) and AZY (10,9,9,8). Lowest 21 BAC (6,6,4,5).

68 million bonds won 464 prizes, average per million 6.824. x52x€50 equals €17,741.18. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck equals €283.86. Nearest to 6 x €50.

    2020 (Jan-June) - €252k - 12x€50 = €600

    2021 (Jan-June) - €257k - 1x€50 = €50

    2022 (Jan-June) - €258k - 7x€50 =€350
