    Lovely day in North Dublin

Still gloomy here in Laois, actually started raining here a few minutes ago. Waste of what appeared to be a promising weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭snowgal

Have to say absolutely stunning here near Trim, I think it’s the nicest evening so far this year proper warmth in the Sun 🌞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,482 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Yeah same in NCD. Toasty in the evening sun. Evening warmth is a rarity so it was certainly cherished today.

Met Eireann forecast doesn't show much rain for the next week. Is their forecast a waste of time?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭Kutebride

Setting sun unreal fireball on the M50. They probably can't even see it setting in Salthill as sat24 shows cloud cover most of the country. Welcome dry day for the outdoors in Wicklow hills today after rain all day yesterday.

I just took a look again and the charts don't look as wet as they did up to yesterday. It will still be unsettled with rain/showers everyday from tomorrow evening but the totals have certaintly come down alot to what the GFS was showing up to yesterday.

We've also seen the last of the really cold daytime temperatures for the time being. Temperatures from tomorrow will be back to a more normal level generally 15 to 19C instead of the 10 to 13C we've been used to over the past week.

Tomorrow looks fairly decent for much of the country with temperatures finally where they should be for summer. Up to 20C possible in places tomorrow with high teens almost nationwide.

Tomorrow looks mostly dry across the eastern half of the country until very late in the day. Showers in some western and south-western areas with a band of heavy rain moving in there from the afternoon.

Tomorrow should make up for the atrocious temperatures and damp gloom we had over the weekend.

Thursday and Friday could be decent in Leinster and parts of Ulster too with some sunny spells and temperatures possibly reaching 21C, but with charts changing so quickly recently I wouldn't bank on that yet.

Thought the cloud was going to break here near Tralee when I posted last just before 14.00 but it did the exact opposite , very low dense stratus and raining all the afternoon into the evening, in fact a very fine mist and humid air at 21.40 when I took the picture below. Like a fireball as Kutebride said above, loads of moisture in the atmosphere, the only sunshine I saw all day.

Do people here have predictions for this summer's weather? What do you think - will we get s heatwave like we did last summer?

I had plans made for next weekend to go out to the Aran Islands but the weather doesn't look promising so I might give it a miss until another weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭esposito

The weather will remain unsettled for the next 10 to 14 days with showers or longer spells of rain. It may begin to settle down end of June but this is in no way guaranteed (this is Ireland after all).

My hunch is that we will get at least a week of very warm and settled conditions sometime in July.

August is August and is usually very unsettled with the Atlantic in control.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Very similar to what I was thinking. Overall June could be the coolest month of the summer this year. MT has been suggesting that July and perhaps August will be mixed but warmer than average.

Looking at the CFS long range for what it's worth, things certainly get warmer for July with high pressure in control for a week or so and then the Atlantic onslaught for August. The Unsettled August is about as predictable as a mild to warm December.

Lovely day today in north Kildare/Dublin/Meath. Stunning blue sky, but we were lucky compared to many other parts. Still, it's notable that some prominent pessimists in the Dublin area who have been very vocal about bad weather over the past few days have said nothing about today's conditions. Kind of confirms my point.

Unfortunately didnt get great weather in Laois the past few days and it's being pretty cold to boot

Overcast today in Mayo but not cold. I suppose those in the east were due a bit of good weather due to us down here having sun the past few days.

I’d still go if I were you. Aran islands are often dry when elsewhere is wet. I think you just have to keep going in ireland - if you were always waiting for a good forecast you’d never go anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,682 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

micro climate on the Aran islands

You often watch the rain on the mainland while its a lovely day out there

What a stunning morning here in NCD🌞

Just back from school walk and it is roasting, I could wear the summer dress without the coat at 8.30am!

    Long may it last.

People use this thread to vent at awful summer weather every year, big deal!

After the often binine conditions last winter I'd be surprised if we get a decent summer this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,172 ✭✭✭OldRio

Indeed or perhaps they were out enjoying the weather instead of using the 'boards' to inflate their ego. Just a thought.

Best weather of the year in Leitrim. Stunning morning. Blue skies and sun.

Summer has arrived in North County Dublin.

Look at the colour of that sea, sparkling turquoise.

Spot on along with yer man in the "Sunny south east" . So much misery

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭TheGlossy

Absolutely sick of this weather I have to say. It's been raining and gloomy since January. I don't recall any previous year being this dark. What a misery. Dublin weather has been an absolute nightmare - very depressing. This time last year, it was already very warm and sunny. The worst part of it all is knowing that the closer you get to August, the less likely you are to experience any proper summer at this rate. I guess we're now paying the price for all that good weather we got in 2020.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,524 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

January was lovely in Dublin I thought. Summer 2020 was atrocious.

Raining now in D5, was nice earlier though.

Another poor day in Tralee. Chilly and overcast, but dry at least.

Fabulous weather in Donegal since early Friday afternoon. Very warm and blue skies. Today was absolutely roasting- something like 23 degrees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

After yesterday afternoon's respite normal service has resumed: dull, grey and damp with a horrible persistent drizzle falling. East Cork.

Lashing rain in Arklow now after a lovely day

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,136 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

I found today quite pleasant in Tralee, was working outdoors in the countryside up until early afternoon, sunshine and cloud which increased as the day went on, couple of quick moving showers and the wind picked up , overcast but brightened up again this evening through broken cloud. Got up to 18.2C and currently 16.3C.

Great to see the W, NW and N doing well today.

Pic: Countryside lush with growth late this morning .

Third consecutive cracking day in North donegal. Glorious sunshine all day. Was still 20c at 6pm.

Think that's the end of it though, meant to rain tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭TheGlossy

January was a bit of blur for me. Summer 2020 wasn't super warm, but March-June was very good, blue sky no rain at all for weeks and weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,920 ✭✭✭acequion

Delighted to see you guys up there getting a good weather break and being the country's exception, weather wise, for the right reasons, for once. Enjoy! 🤩

    Suns out in Arklow

    Breezy and 15.5c

Not a bad morning at all so far

very heavy rain across north leinster this morning.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

At the moment there appears to be no end in sight to the unsettled conditions on the models. We entered a major pattern shift midway through May and this unsettled and relatively cool Atlantic driven pattern looks like persisting into July. Met Eireann's monthly forecast has updated to keeping the unsettled conditons going right into the first week of July.

However I still think we're in with a shot of drawing in some warmer air and maybe a few dry days towards the end of this month.

Like being in a storm in Dublin today, every time I look outside the weather is different too. Horrible. Back in London for a couple of weeks next week, thank f*ck. Lashing now. Feels like we were spared from rain for weeks at a time in recent times, in Dublin anyway, but it is almost daily now there's some kind of rainfall.

Well summer was yesterday morning for Leitrim. 4 hours of glorious blue skies and sun.

Started raining about 10.00am. Still raining.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

The weather in London won't be too bad over the next few weeks, certainly alot dryer than Ireland and most of the UK over the next few weeks, even in bad summers London and the SE generally escapes the bad weather. However I don't think London will be as warm as recent summers although the odd very hot plumey day is very likely. London may also get some very cool days like what they had on Sunday if the bands on rain make it that far south.

The best we can hope for in Ireland over the next few weeks is a few isolated dry days here and there and make the most of any dry interludes that arise. It will be one of those Junes. I'm still feeling hopeful we shall see an improvement for July with a build in high pressure, even if just for 3 or 4 days.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Looking at the GFS over the next 2 weeks, it won't just be Ireland and the UK under relatively cool conditons. Things don't look great for much of Portugal and northern Spain, could be very cool there also compared to what they usually get. Scandinavia also looks mostly chilly. Northern France and the low countries as well as northern Germany may also be prone to the cool Atlantic airmass at times as well as northerly shots.

To safely escape the wrath of the Atlantic probably best to head to southern Spain, Italy or Greece as most of the heat will be restricted to the south-eastern half of Europe over the coming weeks.

We may have to wait till July for a chance of the Azores high to ridge into our part of Europe.

Even towards the end of June things look generally cool and unsettled for a large part of northern and north-western as well as western Europe.

The wind is back with gusto today. At least it's dry so far but it's not pleasant in the blustery wind. East Cork.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Fairly windy here in Meath too and regular but brief heavy showers. Feels fairly chilly today too, very autumnal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Maybe a few dry days…..Is this what were reduced too? Thanks for the update though Gonzo. I’m in Dublin today north side and it’s a horrible day frequent bursts of rain. And that f-ing wind.

We had a year mostly warm and dry conditions, amazed it even lasted that long. That pattern couldn't go on forever and unfortunately for us it broke just in time for the summer and now the form horse is back in charge. We will have to wait and see will we eventually get a dry and warm spell or is this tone set for the entire summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,524 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Dublin always seems to get more rain than the rest of the year every summer after the may/june nice period ends. July and August often seems to be monsoon season.
