2023! That's a loooonnnnggg wait for an expansion pack to a game that's already nearly 18 months old!

Yes surprised at the length of time i've only just finished the game so was hoping the expansion would be this year. I'm assuming its going to be a significant expansion given those timeframes.

Went back to this after leaving it after an hour or so initially.

It's at least playable now, but they really missed all the marks with this in terms of actual gameplay.

The driving is horrendous, if you try to do a hard turn from a stop on the bike even, it's so unpredictable. I took the bike into the dump to get one of the Delamin cabs and it really showed how bad the driving was trying to get back out driving on an uneven surface.

The shooting is awful too, maybe it's not applicable to PC but the settings don't help at all, I look like a kid trying to aim as the small presses don't work(deadzone can't be adjusted despite an open) and the bigger shoot around too quickly. I even put aim assist on and snap and still don't feel it even helps(I was willing to just play with full auto its so bad but it's not really there despite the options for it).

Stealth is just awful too and pointless really.

You can see what they wanted to do and what they nearly did...but they just aimed too high and would have been better served making a combat system game like the Witcher in this setting.

Not sure how much I've to go, I thought I heard it was a really long game(I'm only doing proper missions and any of the silly ones are getting skipped as I don't want to get burned out before completing the main stuff) but almost feel like I'm well over half way through at least.

Enjoying going through it but feel they just got too much below par with the gameplay and mechanics.

If you are having trouble with the aiming, just use smart weapons. There is a handgun tied to a quest that is particularly fun to use.

Yeah I have some of them now. They do need to be abandoned for certain special enemies though as they just dodge them.

The settings have so many options but it's day and night to how I aim in Battlefield or any other shooting game.

They just aren't very extensive as the options seem to show them, even the "snap to" doesn't seem to work and it's something I've always hated using(just conceded with this as it was too clunky but don't feel the aim assist is any different to it being off)

I almost refused Johnny to have a the controls but I'm so glad i did as it gave me the joy of Chippin In mission. Is this actually missable if you refuse him? The montage is epic and the moral of the story, never finger and drive I spose.

Just completed this. I'd waited until the next gen update before playing it, as I never really got caught up in the hype originally so I wasn't too bothered about waiting.

Really enjoyed it overall. I specialised in hacking and stealth, at first that involved a lot of sneaking around and picking people off but as I levelled up and improved my skills a bit I ended up ridiculously overpowered wiping out entire buildings full of enemies with my hacks without even needing to set foot inside. I almost never used a gun in the entire game, which is fine as I generally don't like FPSs.

A lot of missions did feel a bit formulaic when playing like that though. It was almost always a matter of killing a whole area full of enemies then once there was nobody left running in and getting the thing or rescuing the person or whatever. It'd be nice if my hacking skills could be used for more than just frying people, like remote accessing terminals to acquire evidence silently, locking enemies in rooms so I don't need to engage them, that kinda thing.

But it did make me feel powerful and felt like it fit in with my character's traits, and it was plenty good enough to keep me going as the story was what I really cared about. Lots of great characters and well written dialog. Many interesting side quests, though the quality varied a bit and you'd never quite know what you were going to get when starting something. Not as many choices to make as I'd have liked, some missions give you a couple of ways to complete them but the majority of it was quite linear. Every major side quest chain relating to the various characters you befriend along the way was engaging and satisfying though, the game really made me want to see everything through before moving on to the next step in the main quest.

I think I ultimately made a bad choice near the end and got myself an unsatisfactory ending. The fact I agonised over it so much before making the choice says a lot about the quality of the writing though.

I went along with Hanako, and ended up pissing off most of my companions and doing endless tests in the Arasaka lab before being released back to earth with 6 months to live. Felt like I put the wrong Arasaka back in power along the way too.

When deciding what to go with my first choice was absolutely the Aldecados (and after reading up afterwards that would have been the best ending I feel), but Johnny talked me out of it by telling me I'd be putting Panam in danger and I didn't want to go down a path where she ended up dead.

So while Johnny convinced me not to do that, there was no way he was convincing me to put him in charge as I never really trusted him, he didn't have a real plan, and he and rogue already attacked Arasaka and failed before. All of which led me back to Hanako as the most logical choice to get the relic fixed.

Definitely enjoyed it overall. The gameplay was unbalanced and flawed at times, but never critically so and the characters, the story, the atmosphere were all top drawer. Night City must be one of the most well realised video game locations out there and it was always fun diving in. I'll look forward to the expansion.

Went back to this after not playing for a couple of months and remembered why. I'm at the main mission of going to Nocturne (sp) which tells me is a point of no return but i barely have any side missions done or in my list. I have chippin in but have to wait for a call from rogue who never calls. Finished the Evelyn stuff with Judy but she never calls to start her side quest. Waiting on a call from bes isis and, you guessed it, doesn't call.

I slept in apartment, waited multiple days, did gigs and side stuff like panams quest and Claire's. I did get a new call off Panam to meet again so at least i have that to do but i really just want to do Judy's quests and chippin in. Google tells me multiple people had same problem. I called rogue and judy, visited them, exhausted dialogue and nothing. It would be one thing if there were activities to do in Night City but it's dead. Pain in the hole.

Night City is believable right until the moment you attempt to treat it as anything but set dressing. It's completely empty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,536 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Most guides just have the main requirements to unlock missions listed but there's hidden stuff and you can lock yourself out of some of it. I was doing all the side stuff and gigs and I'd periodically get a update on the main and side missions.

Also if you've a mission that's still on you mission log activating that can give you more info or options and use the up and down on d pad to select the option you want.

A lot of the gigs don't show up unless you're driving by them. There's a few rouge ones you might need to do.

I was just thinking "will i play this where i stand around waiting for a phone call or play something else. I grudgingly decided to put this on and as soon as it loaded, Rogue calls me to continue chippin in woohoo. Now if I can just get Judy to call.

I have been using a lot of fast travel so will stick to driving around for a while, see if i can pick up gigs that way, thanks.

    Yeah! THE Samurai jacket.

Are they bugged or is it just how you haven't done something to activate them do ya think?

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,839 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I think they're bugged. Quests says "wait 1 day for Rogue to call you. Must have been a week ingame if not more waiting for that. Other people online saying the same with quests finally progressing randomly.

After i started the next bit of chippin in, i got 2 gig offers at the same time so it's like as if quests just got stuck and they finally decided to load. I wouldn't mind if i had other quests to do but I was just kind of sitting around waiting which just showed me how empty and useless Night City is. I even went to a clothes shop to buy new threads and waste time. I hadn't spent any money yet, all guns and vehicles have been found or rewarded bit a new jacket was costing 12k and I only had 30k so that's just ridiculous, especially as i could find a jacket to replace it on my next mission.

Keeping my money for an apartment anyway. There have been leaks of the first expansion, full dialogue found in the latest update. Hopefully, they add some life into Night City, things to do, and get me caring about the place.

Game definitely had fallen asleep on me, i have a ton of stuff quests now and Judy finally messaged me to say "I'll call you in a few days" sigh, just give me the quest cdpr. All this should have been offered way before a point of no return main quest.

I'm also not sure of my build. I'm averaging 8-10 across all attribs with 4 points to spend but I'm not sure where. I like to sneak as much as possible and take out enemies quietly. I'm choosing non lethal but don't know why as i have know problem mowing them down with an lmg if I'm found. I like hacking but no idea how ye are clearing out a building from yer car, maybe I need more attrib points in that area to find out. As for the money, i actually have 60k but realised i haven't been getting any cyber parts added. They're expensive but i want to try those mantis arms. Lastly, the vignette that appears when you crouch needs to **** off entirely. If I'm in a dark area, i shouldn't have to stand to brighten up the room.

With those complaints out of the way, I'm still really enjoying it. Loving the missions and interactions with different characters. I don't get the love for Panam though, both writing and acting not a patch on Judy. Warmed up to Johnny big time, great having all his gear except his gun packed way more of a lunch in the flashbacks.

From reading a few posts in this thread i should really pick up this game but I'm going to wait till Xbox have a sale on as I have so many games to play with Gamepass on Xbox.

I picked it up over the weekend and did the prologue and not much else. I did get a chuckle in V's apartment when I saw the 3 sea shells in the jacks 😁

That's a near 30 year old reference to a movie. After that that I can already tell this is and was never the game they promised even after all the patching. Visually on a series X it's still sub par. The "Ray Tracing" option is unplayable, they can f right off if they are calling that a locked 30 fps !!!! I honestly can't tell the difference between the two options visually other than the frame rates. The gun play is not very satisfying at all from the few fights i've been in and don't expect it to improve.

I decided to head to a ripper doc and get implants in almost every section i including mantis arms which are savage. Upgraded my original cyberware also to allow more quick hacks, gonna try the hacker approach. Huge list of side quests now. I looked up one, the gun range shooting competition and that gets offered as soon as you start Act 2 so I'm guessing there was definitely a bug but glad it looks to be sorted now. Finally got the car from all the trailers which is nice!

The boxing match with Arroyo is one of the most frustrating parts of the game for me. I wasn't expecting much of a challenge at first, I thought it was going to be like the boxing in the Witcher 3 game where a lot of it would fight would be blocking and dodging while getting a few good jabs in here and there. But the guy completely floored me in the first few seconds. I had to save and reload many times because I kept losing to him and didn't want to lose too much money in the fight, and just when I finally beat him, he refuses to accept the loss and attacks me with his whole gang. I was so p*ssed off I made it a point to upgrade to Gorilla Arms so I would never have to go through that again.

That being said, the Gorilla Arms also make the boxing a little too easy as well so I was kind've guilty using them in the fights. I only use them against Arroyo because I see it as fair game. If he's going to get his whole gang to beat me up then the arms at least give me an advantage.

Can you use the mantis blades in the boxing or are the considered weapons where as gorilla arms are fists?

No side missions, they're pretty impossible if you not somewhat specced for them.

Can't use mantis or the nano wire, just the fists.

Don't think the fists give too much of an advantage, you need to hit a few times to build up the charge where the heavy attack does the extra damage but in the later fights you can get destroyed in a few hits. I mostly relied on the different mods to give slow mo for dodging and extra melee after dodging or extra damage after counter.

Never really bother with the other arms, gorilla gave a bonus to forcing doors and for my second playthrough with a ninja I'd use a sword.

I was using a katana build but it was annoying how the was a complete lack of blood and gore, just sparks coming off human enemies. Mantis blades on the other hand are savage, slicing arms legs and heads off.

Did you have to bring up that the 3 sea shells is a reference from a 30 year old movie? I feel old now remembering enjoying watching said movie (and yes I do remember the scene when it came up as well an the resolution to the dilemma) 😓

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Cordell

For lack of anything else to play I started this again. Well, it's better this time around, but nothing says living and breathing city more than everyone in sight walking with the exact same limp and perfectly in sync. But when it clicks, it really does.

I saw it in the cinema back in the day. Actually going to dig out the DVD later as my wife has never seen it and she enjoys 90's movies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,839 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I forgot what goes to use the 3 sea shells or was it ever confirmed? I feel if I start googling it, I'll go down a 3 hour reddit rabbit hole.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Cordell

I went there so you don't have to: 2 to make a chopsticks like implement to pick out the large bits, the 3rd to scrape away the leftovers.

    Ok .... Ok.... ......... Ok :D

Now, i really want to watch Demolition Man again.

Question about early on as in near the beginning after the Heist.

Is there something I'm missing or a way to avoid spending 13k on

having to buy a new car?
