Dublin Airport at it again

The DAA seem to be on a roll with pissing as many people off as possible. Word is they're closing ALSAA from the 30th June. That means all the summer camps people have booked in for wouldn't be going ahead.

Not to mention the staff losing their jobs and all the clubs affected. I send the kids to a few different things there and it's always busy.

So along with the delays shitshow, apparently bringing in charges for using the drop off areas and now this, it's clear that the board of the DAA with a large number of members earning in excess of €100k a year and some in the region of €250k a year are removed from reality.

I haven't been able to find out the reason for the closure or what's going to happen to the site but it appears the clubs have been informed.

It's the sports and social club for Aer Lingus \ Aer Rianta staff (though it was open to all visitors, as far as I recall).

Yep this, it's a great venue for sports clubs as it has a swimming pool, athletics track, football pitch and more. As Kermit says, this is a massive loss to the area as there are over 40 clubs with thousands of members.

Why the sudden closure I wonder ?

id imagine in the current climate it might take a little bit of shopping around to find a suitable buyer…

be a pity if it just ended up knocked and warehouses put up there but I’d imagine that’s a likely scenario if no buyer and operator is found.

too close to the airport for anything residential I’d guess.

They're well within their rights to sell off or whatever. The notice period is in poor order, they've dropped a bombshell on clubs and members out of nowhere who are now scrambling to try and find a new venue. How many kids are missing out on summer camps? How many people are missing out on a variety of sports activities and socialising because the DAA couldn't have informed people within a reasonable time frame?

It's not a poor us debate, it's another in a string of decisions by the DAA that they simply do not give a flying **** about the communities immediately around the airport.

This is hardly a priority for a business. Unfortunate for the end users, sure. But if a wide area depends on one business to facilitate its needs then you have the problem elsewhere.

Jaysus the DAA changed their mind fairly quickly there. I wonder what the reason was? Did someone have a word in their ear and tell them to cop on?

Timing is (was) a bit iffy though - right at the start of the summer holidays.

If they are/were still planning on closing it down, do it late in the year.

DAA came out pretty strongly on it - no plans to shut down the facility and never were.

It appears that ALSAA's licence to operate the facility had expired 6 months ago, and that DAA are planning for a tender process to decide on who gets to operate the next 5 year licence.

Appears to be a bit of scaremongering from ALSAA to try and force the DAA's hand into just giving them another licence without opening it up to competition
