Hope your feeling better soon, was there much damage to the bike? Did the car stop and help?

Another fella knocked off by a car yesterday just up the road from me, car pulled out of a car park onto road in town and never saw the bike,

Bike was a mess stuck under the wheel of the car and the rider 20 yards down the road!

Is bikeworld the only ones doing Zontes bikes?

    Dont do it.

My mate bought one, is still paying for it and it's gone. Was POS from day 1.

I'm thinking of fitting one of those big fog horns off a boat.

That or an air raid siren.

Had an interesting ride home this morning, following a bunch of learner army guys on bikes. For those that know Dublin, we got to the intersection coming from Island Bridge and turning left towards Chapelizod. There's a bunch of bollards etc set up for cyclists there now, it's a pain in the hole turning left. I used to be able to filter and then take a green arrow, but it's all been changed for cycle lanes. Turns out, I'm doing it wrong. All the army guys just went onto the cycle lane, around the corner, and completely bypassed the lights. Don't know if I'd get away with doing that if a guard was around.

We then got into Chapelizod and were going 30km/h along a road with loads of speed humps, then one of the bikers obviously put his brakes on, and 4 or 5 of the guys clattered into each other. Luckily none of them hit the deck. The instructor at the back turned to me and raised his arms in despair. I had a bit of a laugh, it must a nightmare controlling that many novices at once.

I know they need 3000km service, but what problems had they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,445 ✭✭✭LollipopJimmy

Simple stuff, his chain snapped at 1500kms, **** happens etc etc however it took 3 weeks for Bikeworld to source the sprocket. Also had a non start issue. This is on a brand new out of the box bike.

Then it just rode terrible, he's after switching onto an old Superfour and the difference is night and day.

Just trying to pick out which safety exhaust will get me maximum attention up there. 😁

    Hi All,

Could I get some advice on what’s the best Arai helmet as an upgrade of their Astro J model and also some recommendations on where to buy, when sales might be on, etc.

I want to buy as a surprise for himself. I think I asked on here a few years back but bills took over the bank balance so I never had spare funds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,505 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Rx-7V if the funds will allow.

Crossans have some good deals on black Friday if you can wait until then.

I used to get helmets from helmet city, sportsbikeshop etc but I suppose Brexit has made that too expensive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,288 ✭✭✭StrawbsM

Im pretty close to the border and have addresses I can use. Just dealing with exchange rate would I get a better deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,505 ✭✭✭✭blade1

The last time I bought one crossans were cheaper even before the black Friday deal which was around €200 off.

Shop around is all I can say as different shops will have deals on some of their stock as sometimes they will want to shift stuff to make room for new stuff coming in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,043 ✭✭✭✭GBX

As much as I like to shop local, going up north you also have no vat on helmets so price difference is quite a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

UK don't have Vat on helmets and that's after their market being larger and a bit more competitive. If you can have it delivered to a NI address then that's an option, but otherwise if you've it delivered here you're getting hit with Irish Vat and customs as it'd be over the €150.

crossans/thevisorshop being based in the North gets all the benefits of UK vat exception without the extra Brexit problems ( for now), so price dependant that might be more straightforward.

Finally found software and maps for the old Power Commander 3 (Non USB)

However, no matter what the bike won't fire with it connected, even with a zero map. Sake... took me days of trawling the power commander website on the wayback machine to get the stuff too, they no longer support it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭goblin59

whats the bike? could be a connection issue, but I thought they were plug and play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,505 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Did you try holding down the 3 buttons and pressing the starter button at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,445 ✭✭✭LollipopJimmy

After posting a I had another look, ground wire was broken. Now I'm motoring. Thanks both!

Took her for a spin, so much smoother power delivery, even with a downloaded map.

I am going to get it dyno tuned though, just so it's 100%

Quick question and possibly a stupid one, could a damaged fuel hose cause a carb to flood. I had terrible problems with the carb flooding a while back, spotted yesterday that the fuel hose was damaged (spotted it by seeing petrol piss all over the driveway when I turned the tap on) but since I’ve replaced the hose, all is good again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭goblin59

that wouldn't cause a carb to flood.

Unless dirt or a bit of the rubber got in and held the float needle open.

Generally a flooded carb is the float level not set properly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,750 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Ah, carbs. Those mythical devices which few understand, even those who work on them 😁

I was wary of fuel injection bikes before I owned one, but have never had a bit of bother with them. Bikes that can be remapped by the user are even better, no nonsense fiddling with jets and needles which can only ever deliver an approximation of correct fuelling under certain conditions.

    Scrap the cap!

Is there a decent breakers anywhere lads? I'm after a couple of bits for my SFV650 after my recent off.

Doesn't need to be in Ireland.

Four bikers charged with speeding on Thursday evening (10 pm) on Howth Hill. First one was doing 90 in a 50 zone. . . . . . . he might consider bringing his toothbrush with him to court if he doesn't pay the fine as soon as it falls in the door 😎. It's become like a speed trial on the hill in the last few weeks so RPU are involved. They gather at Il Panorama for coffee then at 10 pm when it closes they race up and over the hill. Two bikers that had "good observational skills" avoided being caught 😆 and slowed down in time but a few had a squeaky bum moment. Apparently this operation will be random during the coming weeks.

    It's frustrating.

It's 3.5 weeks since my accident. The body is fine (well it's almost fine), but the bike is still awaiting a few parts. I'm disappointed with Crossan's. I called them twice and they said they'd call back. Twice. They didn't. Their loss as a much bigger sale was theirs potentially.

Axa are also quite slow regarding my claim for damages. I've called and emailed them several times. Nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭goblin59

Not sure whats going on with Crossans. Could have difficulty getting parts at the moment though.

Its likely the other party causing issues with the claim. I keep having to ring Axa to see whats going on with mine (I'm the opposite, currently defending a claim as a woman cut across me in her car and is trying to claim off my insurance for a few scratches while I came off the bike)

I was happy to just walk away and avoid a headache

I think I may have a very slow puncture in the front (or it could all be in my head). It feels slightly off, like a puncture but the pressure is up to spec and isn’t squared off, however, I can still push the tyre in, very slightly if I put my weight down on it, is this normal for tubed tyres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,505 ✭✭✭✭blade1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,595 ✭✭✭hairyslug

I don’t have a lift or stand for it, is there any way to check without lifting. The front end felt vague but since coming home and the tyres cooling, the front has stayed the same, the rear has dropped 1psi and is now 4 below what’s spec

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,505 ✭✭✭✭blade1

    Remind me what bike again.

For now I'll assume you've just a sidestand.

Have you anyone to give you a hand?

Get other person to lean bike over on sidestand putting pressure on the rear so front wheel lifts off ground.

You go to front of bike and grab forks low down and turn steering from left to right and back slowly several times to feel for any notch.

Also pull forks forward and back to check for any play.

Cheers, it’s a DR750, will rope one of the kids in to give it a go

    edit:

it’s turning smoothly,no play that I can see if I try and pull the forks, am gonna check the pressures tomorrow to see if there is any change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭goblin59

If the forks are similar to a DR650 then its just **** forks that can make the front end feel spongy

have you a drop in valve kit in the forks?

    What tyres are you running?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,839 ✭✭✭H_Lime

    Howdy HairySlug.

Post more pics of her pls.

Carefully check the front bearings. There's an oddball uber expensive only from suzuki unsealed ntn bearing in the front iirc, they're shyte as they have no seal (you read correctly) and are always gone or going on the 750. Can give weird feeling.

I run 34 psi front and can just about push the tyre in as you describe. What date is stamped on your tyre?

Best bet is to do a fork oil change and bang in heavier wirth or wilbers springs or better yet just sell me the bike:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭goblin59

I bet your ears were burning from someone mentioning a DR big

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,595 ✭✭✭hairyslug

I’m hoping it’s just low pressure, the front was 25, rear 28, looks like most keep it at 32 & 36 and since if increased it, it’s feeling better and I don’t have the time, money or tools to be looking at the forks. The lower end of the gator is bet on so I’ll try and get that off to see how things are.

H, there’s no sign of me getting bored of it, it’s a job keeping it on the road but I’ll let ya know if it goes up for sale.
