    Hi

I have checked this online but want to clarify with recent fliers.

With the family plus rate am I correct that we can take only 1 20kg checked in bag, one 10kg carry on bag for each of us plus one small carry on bag each (to go at our feet and no more than 40cm in height)?

    Thanks

You have just about enough room for one change of clothes each for two weeks!..I wish people would show up at Shannon and Dublin to protest at these greedy airlines ..

Correct. You all get priority boarding with 2x carry on but only one 20kg checked bag, You can add further 20kg bags if required.

Is someone dragging you kicking and screaming onto the plane against your will?

4 people need 60kg+ of luggage for a 2 week holiday! What are you bringing that weights that much? I relocated for several months with only a 20kg bag and carry on.

Ok...so he and his family are going on holiday...he's using ryain air family Plus baggage rules..for me a family is 2 + 2. But I'm sure Ryanair will state a family is 2 + 1... I'm thinking at a minimum 2 x 20 kg would be needed for a week somewhere. I really talking about family's who have to pay through the nose for a holiday and have to squash everything into a limited suitcase weight allowance.im not talking about someone on their own who,s work is paying for their flight and they never pay a penny and feel entitled.

2+2 is still getting 1x20kg checked in + 4x10kg carry on. 60kg is way more than enough!!

Your misreading me...he's using family plus..that means there's prob at least three people..I said three people using one 20 kg suitcase for two weeks and each person might only be able to get one change of clothes each into that suitcase.

I wouldn't think it's enough myself .you don't get alot into those small 10 kg carry ons .you will have shoes or runners for four people (unless everyone is only bringing the shoes they are wearing.dont even think of bringing a present back for anyone as you won't have the space.with kids there's alot of clothes ,jumper x 4 (bulky )if cold...I just don't see it if there was 4 .anyhow that's only my opinion..you are entitled to yours

Bulky stuff and liquids into the 20kg checked bag. Clothes into the 4 x 10kg, Remember kids clothes are smaller too. 60kg is plenty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭fdevine

Exactly that - shoes, liquids etc. in checked bag. Very few people will not overpack, including us, but we've done two weeks 2+3 with one 20kg checked bag and a 10kg each, with room for presents coming home.

    Am I right in thinking Family PLus is bad value - for 1 adult and 2 kids under 12, its €25 per person extra than Regular and the only difference is the 20kg checked bag (which costs €40 as an extra)? I'm thinking I will save €35 by booking Regular and adding a 20kg bag;

Family Plus used to include 2 x 20kg checked bags ; we are going away on Saturday and had included Family Plus - booked this last year and can bring 2 x20kg bags

i just booked flights to France for summer for 2+3

took the value no frills fare, then added 2*20KG + got 5 small bags so i saved prob 150e

so if you need 50kg of luggage (3x10 + 1X20) then why do you not just get a value fare then add 2x20 & 1x10

if you look at what the family needs as a whole and add it separately i bet it will always be much cheaper

the prob with these easy click buttons is it gives every family member the same..

That’s what I just did for summer hols. I went a step further and put himself on a separate booking; value fare not even a seat.

I looked back on the booking for the flight we are taking this weekend, we booked last September; family plus for 2+2 cost €24 each, this included 2x 20kg, 4x10kg and seats each. So it has doubled in price and now only one 20kg bag plus have to pay for the adult seats - it’s a bit of a ripoff now

Query on the family plus. It is 1x20kg and 4x10kg checked in bags in my case. On the website it says you can pool baggage allowance as long it is on the same booking. Can you bring 2 x 25kg bags?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭GAAcailin

Where did you see this on the website, I can't see it? I would think no to what you are asking but don't know for sure.

Anything over 20kg is oversize according to anything I read.

I think Family Plus has really gone up in price, I didn't bother with it this year

Do you remember what flying was like before the likes of Ryanair. I think it is perfectly fair if you want more luggage pay a higher price.

So long as pricing is clear and upfront I don't have a problem

    Sharing bag allowance

Customers can pool or share their purchased baggage allowance with other passengers included in the same flight reservation when checking-in together.

For example, if a reservation has two checked bags of 20kg (40 kg in total) one of the bags could weigh 15kg and the other 25kg (40 kg in total).

while it says you can share allowance in the example above 25 & 15 on the next paragraph it says you can’t go over 20kg.

my main question is can you have 2 x 20kg bags? As opposed to 1 x 20kg and 2x 10kg.

I did a booking last night it said an individual bag cannot exceed 32kg, not 20kg.

    1) What is the maximum size of a checked-in item?

For health and safety reasons, Ryanair does not accept for carriage any individual item exceeding 32 kilos or with combined dimensions of more than 119cms x 119cms x 81cms. This weight limit does not apply to mobility equipment.

I’m also interested it whether we can pool the three 10kg check-in bags to bring say one 30kg bag though. It mentions pooling 20kg bags but not 10kgs, not something you take a chance on with RyanAir! Anybody done it successfully?

A slightly different question: I am going to Manchester soon, and I have a seat booked (Ryanair), which entitles me to a 10Kg overhead bag plus the smaller under-seat bag.

Ryanair doesn't say it in their website, but I understand that if you buy stuff in the duty free shop, you can also bring that duty free bag on board - in addition to the 2 bags you have paid for.

    Am I correct?

YES..... thats the 'understanding'. Ryanair tried to charge for this duty free bag a few years ago and the Airports kick up stink (as passengers sought refunds etc) and Ryanair had to back down. Its an important source of income for Airports - and its what keeps the airlines landing charges down. Ryanair can't have it their own way all the time....

Then purchase more bags! You fail to understand that by allowing passengers to choose how much they want to bring starting from a small bay to be stored at your feet, proceeding through a 10kg bag in the overhead through to full-size bags in the hold, it means that people who wish to carry little baggage don’t cross-subsidise those who have a want or need for more. Should each ticket assume 3 on board drinks for each person? It’s the same analysis.

It definitely says somewhere on the RyanAir site that you can bring Duty Free onto the plane in addition to your bags, read it somewhere last night in the FAQs.

    We booked family plus for 4 of us. Which allowed 1 x 20 and 4 x 10. 60kg total.

We brought 2 x 20kg and 1 x 10kg. The person at the check-in at Shannon, checked them in grand. But said to pool the weight you need everyone to check a bag (i.e 4 bags) and that could be an issue coming back from France, so check in another bag, even if it is empty. We check in another bag on the way back with just towels. But it wouldn’t have been an issue coming back either, you man was grand. But it might be if you get a cranky person at check in.

Are the 10kg bag each only allowed for carry on (with regards to family plus) or can they be checked in with the 20kg bag?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭GAAcailin

the 10kg's must be checked in. The only carry-on items you are allowed is your small personal item, i.e. underseat bag
