I suppose it’s just a coincidence a drive by poster came by with empty unsupported rhetoric about Chicago and inner cities etc. on Juneteenth. So much so that they charged in here without even understanding what a US state was. Even more hilarious they’ve now doubled down and said crime is not a state issue - leaving the entire job of state troopers or the state attorney general etc. much in question. I mean why have counties at all either, or sherriffs department, everyone knows laws only exist in major democrat cities (?)

Very lost on what any of this has to do with Joe Biden other than someone picked up some gross bigoted Juneteenth rhetoric somewhere else probably and came in here to grace us with it.

Texas GOP legalative is looking to secede from the US

    In addition...

The Texas GOP's new party platform also called for full repeal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Other planks also indicated a further shift to the right for the party, giving prominence to culture issues.

The platform describes homosexuality as "an abnormal lifestyle choice," and also declares that the party opposes "all efforts to validate transgender identity."

The platform also calls for a total ban on abortion and "equal protection for the Preborn."

a great bunch of lads /s

I bet there’s a wiki article tracking all the myriad times texas has threatened to secede from the union. It’s hardly news anymore. they do it any time their guys aren’t in power in Washington

    Ah, there was

Let's talk about the story from yesterday regarding the crime rate in San Francisco and the Democrat D.A

    You have deflected long enough

What does that have to do with Joe Biden? Boudin assumed his office a year before Biden did and their races were unrelated?

Speaking of deflections, you'd rather discuss anything else than Joe Biden.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,792 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Republicans seem upset Joe is doing their job for them.

Biden arrests more watchlist perps in 1 year than in the last 5, and they're pretending it's a bad thing.

I'm not deflection from anything, speaking of which I'm still waiting for that Citation on state crime rates or have you forgotten that

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 16,380 Mod ✭✭✭✭Manic Moran

It's a stat absent any context at all.

It could be because USBP are performing better under the Biden administration. It could also be because the amount of people attempting to enter have increased. It's the perfect sort of statistic which can be spun to advocate for either side's position because nobody feels a need to dig into the cause, or alternatively, nobody is capable of knowing "what percentage of attempts" were successful in either period.

You are being disingenuous. I mentioned the cities of San Francisco and New York. Then mentioned ten cities. Some posters have intentionally swapped it out for states as they won't engage the point.

Similar to what you are attempting. Again!

    You won't talk Biden

    won't talk polls

    won't talk next election odds

    won't talk Harris

won't talk about democrat led crime holes like Chicago,San Francisco and New York.

I believe someone even stooped as low as to call me a bigot because I mentioned last weekends shootings in Chicago. Lol

    It's just deflection.

So, to paraphrase what you're saying, you can't provide Citation to underline your point that the states with the worst crime rates are Democrat as you claimed. Only able to highlight cherry picked anecdotal incidents, hardly empirical

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭Tonesjones

I claimed cities not states. At the very beginning. You know this

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,625 ✭✭✭✭extra gravy

"Poster cherry picked a stat within the overall picture to suit his agenda and you lapped it up."

This you? Cherry picking cities not states to suit your agenda. See, two can play that game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭Tonesjones

Why not cherry pick countries then. You pick countries then il pick continents.

Come on man. Address the point, let's talk

In Louisiana, murder has been occurring more in the metropolitan area, especially in New Orleans. The murder valuation in New Orleans is about 37 per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the highest in any city

The second-highest assassination rate in the USA is of Missouri as 9.8 per 100,000 inhabitants. The concentration of murders in Missouri is disproportionate, with approximately 90% of killings in Missouri in metropolitan areas committed in 2019.

The two most dangerous cities in the United States are St. Louis and Kansas City. In 2019, 205 murders were reported in St. Louis and 150 in Kansas City. Crime in Missouri occurs in major metropolitan cities.

Violence mainly tends to focus in urban areas in Maryland. Baltimore is the dangerous city in the state with a violent crime rate of 1,8334 incidents per 100,000

Unfortunately, Little Rock leads the charge, the most dangerous spot in Arkansas

The stats go on and on , you get the drift.

Fact is homicide rates occur mostly is urban , inner city areas.. The top 20 worst homicide ridden cities in America are all ran by Democrat politicians. 😮

    Assassination rate?

You know what the point is.

The most crime ridden cities in America are led by Democrats. Should president Biden ignore the more fringe elements of the democrat party and fund the police with whatever they need to tackle spiralling crime?

Will he run for re election considering the little impact he has had and the abysmal current rating in opinion polls?

    Do you like Joe Biden?

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,792 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

By what metric? Where are you getting these statistics from?

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,625 ✭✭✭✭extra gravy

A discussion usually starts by offering your own opinion. So go ahead:

Tell us what Democratic policies have led to these "crime ridden cities"

Tell us what "fringe elements" are stopping Biden from funding the police. Which isn't his job btw but anyway.

Tell us what's been so abysmal about his term so far.

Try to back up all of this with some facts.

Maybe then other people will answer your questions.

Only cities with populations of 100,000 people or more were evaluated. The poverty rate and unemployment rate were also evaluated for each city, as these economic factors often correlate with crime rates.

I have no idea how they incorporated the poverty or unemployment rates into their analysis.

The prose in the article itself indicates it's a ripoff from another website, 247wallst.com

Bogalusa with a population of 11k is one of the 3 worst cities for murder??.. What! This is the type of laughable lies to have to deal with

    Facts

Chicago City reached at least 800 homicides in 2021, a level not seen in 25 years

According to CPD, a total of 797  people were killed in the city, a figure not seen since 798 were slain in 1996.

According to the medical examiner, Blacks were the victims of 80% of the homicides handled by the office. More than 1,000 homicides here were gun-related, the office said.

“Males accounted for 88% of homicide deaths,” the office reported in a statement. “Eighty-six homicide deaths were under 18; 12 were under the age of 10.”

The Chicago police figure includes all manner of homicides, but the overwhelming majority of slayings in the city — more than 90% — were a result of gun violence, statistics show.

All told, there were at least 4,300 gunshot victims, including those who suffered both fatal and nonfatal injuries, according to CPD data. The number is a significant increase from 2018, when 2,800 people were shot.people were killed in the city, a figure not seen since 798 were slain in 1996

Chicago ranks 6th behind the other Democrat run cities - St Louis , New Orleans , Detroit etc.. Bogalusa doesn't even make the top 30 🤦‍♂️

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,792 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

So there were almost 800 homicides but over 1000 of them are gun homicides. Makes sense?

797 dead in a city of 2,747,000 is a murder rate of less than 29.5 per 100k. Bogalusa with 140 per 100k people, you are almost five times more likely to be murdered in that small city of Bogalusa than that metropolis of Chicago.

Here’s an opinion. These statistics mean nothing about party affiliation. Urban areas have the most crime. Most urban areas lean Democratic. One does not cause the other.

It’s overly simplistic to say they do. The real problem is people don’t stop to try to understand the causes of crime and deal with them at their root. The solutions proposed are generally over simplistic; give more money to the police, longer sentencing etc. . It doesn’t work and never has.

Crime is dealt with by improving the lives of poor people. Both parties are terrible at that. But the GOP are worse.

And if we're going to cherry pick, NYC had more murders under Rudy than under De Blasio. For the record, I thought De Blasio a terrible mayor.

Adams' election was seen as a backlash to rising crime in the city. Lest we forget, De Blasio was elected after Bloomberg, so 20 years of GOP mayors in NYC and crime starts going up.

Funny that many posters have disappeared now that the stupid furore over a simple fall from a bike has died down.

It is almost as if they had nothing constructive to contribute to this thread and just jumped on in to make **** jokes and glib comments.
