I have a random name as my next of kin on my files

I'm wondering how this could happen. It's a female name but a very generic one. This person is down as my next of kin on my medical records.

How could this have happened?

A next of kin yes. But they are not in the same jurisdiction so the computer says no. It always showed up as blank and my nok was in the notes section because they couldn't register a telephone number from out of town so to speak.

I've tried the telephone number for this new person in my life. It's a mobile number however it doesn't ring, doesn't go to voicemail, doesn't do anything at all. It's just a defunct number.

What medical records? Local doctors had info in little cards which were then made electronic so it could have been a mix up.

Hospitals are a disaster of paper and computer and incompatible systems between hospitals. They send paper records by taxi including "electronic x-rays" as other hospital can't handle them.

I recommend contacting whoever holds the records and asking. At least get it corrected. Lots of ways it could have happened with human error and electronic records mix up or corrupt files.
