Fair play to NZ. It's a disgrace that we're shipping these poor things off to Libya every bloody week. To think of the uproar when puppy farms are busted but no one gives a f*ck about these young ones being packed into boats to meet god knows what kind of conditions abroad.

Bit of a different situation with the NZ ban.
Those were breeding stock from the highest genetic cow families in NZ going to China, and there was countrywide horror at the loss of 5800 dairy stock, two Australians, two New Zealanders and 41 Phillipino crew-members when the ship lost power and sank in a Typhoon.

Do we need something like this to happen for the practice to be banned here?

Burger King vow to reduce meat in their menu to reduce emissions. This less meat fad seems to be gaining traction.

One of the highest rated restaurants in the world (whatever that means?) is going plant based when it reopens after lockdown https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/03/dining/eleven-madison-park-vegan-menu.html?smid=tw-share - reason for doing so is environmental concerns. The writing is on the wall for animal based agriculture now that the consumers are turning away from it.

I saw Epicurious stopped accepting any recipes with beef in them too, for similar reasons.

    Gunda Trailer

I saw this in the guardian. Honestly it looks absolutely beautiful. Was trying to see if I could watch it but it's not released properly yet.

Yeah I was complaining to my local coffee place that their coffee was different, lack of oatly! Took the best coffee i've ever had down to average with a different oat milk.

I'd say lots of the gaps on the shelves are down to Brexit.

If you're anywhere near one, try Holland and Barretts, or Evergreen. I also saw some in one of these, yesterday. http://thefoodcentre.co/

Out today and I think it will stream on Netflix and Prime. The IT gave it 5 stars and a glowing review in its film review section linked below. Very excited to watch this over the bank holiday weekend and have stocked up on some M&S vegan ggoodness for the occasion (three "cheese" pizza, cauliflower bites and churros).

Yeah all the reviews are great, I'm not sure I could handle it though I love pigs and no doubt it'll have some heart wrenching ending

Yeah, I'm the same; the trailer already got to me after reading what it was about. I will need to be prepared for it I think, hence the comfort food and watching it on a bank holiday night where there is lots of time over the weekend to enjoy the time off and the sun; and to remember that life is still amazing - which is why we are on our journey to appreciate, protect and nourish it!

Has anyone tried the "sons of butchers" (I think that's what they're called) stuff that they're selling in Dunnes? The fake chickeny stuff and their sausages are quite good, haven't tried the mince yet.

    Hello,

I have a couple of sweet toothed vegan friends, and I would like to buy them some sweet treats.

Nothing fancy or expensive now, just some nice sweet vegan snacks from one of the supermarkets.

    Any suggestions kindly appreciated.

    TIA!

    Thank you TA!

I'm thinking more along the lines of brownies, ice cream, chocolates etc.

Has anyone tried the truffles from My Goodness?

This for chocolate, arrow right on all these btw they have 10 slides):

If there is an M&S near you their choclates are fab, truffles. Any health shop will have lots of vegan chocolate options.
However if you want the best chocolate buy them booja booja truffles. They are in Healthshops and online.

Icecream from creamofthecropgelato is amazing if you live in range of their delivery, also there is ben and jerrys, booja booja.
Brownies you can get them delivered nationwide from veganodeli in galway https://www.instagram.com/veganodeligalway/, and from si.treats https://www.instagram.com/si.treats/

The Goody-Good Stuff "gellies" (those with a Koala bear, on that instagram post) are to die for. Biona also do organic cola bottles, also vegan and also very nice. Oh, and sour snakes, too.

On the other hand, I would NOT recommend stuff from this company, https://livias.co.uk/product/raw-choc-brownie-nugglets/, a colleague bought some of their stuff one lunchtime because she was looking for a "healthy" treat and couldn't finish the first one. She offered them to me, telling me why she didn't eat them - I usually eat most sweet things but I had to agree with her, they weren't good at all. Now, I don't think it was that exact product, I think what I had was more of a disc shape, but they may have changed the format in the meantime.

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the vegetarian world....have recently discovered tempeh (the Tofoo brand) and was wondering if this is regularly stocked in Tescos nationwide?

We do our regular big shop in Dunnes which doesn't seem to have it at all. I'm based in Limerick and stumbled across the tempeh in Tesco Castlebar on a visit last weekend.

I've seen it in a lot of Tesco's but not all of them. C an probably ask to have it stocked in yours. If there are any asian shops they often have tempeh in them.
Supervalu also have this one https://shop.supervalu.ie/shopping/chilled-food-vegetarian-vegan-ready-meals-plant-power-organic-original-tempeh-200-g-/p-1722134000

My local Dunnes has a nourish and has a nice maple smoked tempeh, only one I've tried.

Tried the new chorizo Rudds sausages today, they're not bad. Not a fan of pea protein but the smoky chorizo flavour overpowers it so a nice change for breakfast with toast rather than having porridge.

Wow, certain factions aren't going to like this, overwhelmingly approved by the EU Parliament, hopefully the Commission do their part! 2027 is still a long way away though.

Farrowing crates aren't the problem they are legislating for, its the ending of permanent stalls and use of loose housing instead.
Farrowing crates are used for two reasons, 1) they stop the sow flopping down suddenly, and crushing/smothering piglets who don't get out of the way in time.
And b), they stop rogue sows from chasing, catching and eating their own piglets.

A step in the right direction. However, it still sucks for the hens with the horrendous living conditions. The slaughterhouse still awaits.

    Nom nom nom.

Let’s keep clearing the planet to provide animals for other animals to eat.

Let’s **** the planet. Let’s **** the future humans at all costs. They’re called children currently fwiw.

Humans really are too selfish and dumb to care about anything beyond today.

What a sad sad world to be part of.

i managed to pick a block of this up in our local spar - not very cheap, but i wouldn't have expected it to be. it was alright - tasted a bit processed, we used it on veggie nachos.

I think the forum was unusable because of the ‘fight’ put up by the farming community.

Moderation wasn’t swift and sever enough.

There was no fun to be had having to ‘deal with’ the trolls. Zero tolerance was the only option to allow the forum to be fun to use.

That’s not a dig at you Tar. I know you’re sound and patient but such trolling needed to be squashed instantly or it would turn out as it did.

    It’s a shame really.
