Sinn Fein seem to be the left wing party here that has most hope of going into government. Even though they have drifted into the centre fairly rapidly in the past few years. They may need support from PBP to form a government though. I had hoped PBP would be history after the next election but with inflation and people having less money their pockets Murphys "blame the rich" tax the rich and give it to layabouts will possibly see them hold Thier seats.

I hope PBP go in with SF after the next election because they will minimise the damage SF can do, as the first sign of trouble Murphy and Barrett will collapse the government

They're all much more popular topics with the 'modern right'.

That is a total misrepresentation of what the poster said.

I'll ask again what defines working class?

You keep talking about working class opinions, so what is the working class.

Is a teacher/guard/ nurse working class? what defines working class to you, since you keep talking about them.

I think you might have missed the “Conservative”, not Conservative, because they aren’t, and we’ve never actually had a Conservative party in Government because they have never existed in Ireland. It’s easy to forget that the two main political parties, and Sinn Fein, all emanated from the same source -

Sinn Féin ("We Ourselves", often mistranslated as "Ourselves Alone") is the name of an Irish political party founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. It subsequently became a focus for various forms of Irish nationalism, especially Irish republicanism. After the Easter Rising in 1916, it grew in membership, with a reorganisation at its Ard Fheis in 1917. Its split in 1922 in response to the Anglo-Irish Treaty which led to the Irish Civil War and saw the origins of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, the two parties which have since dominated Irish politics. Another split in the remaining Sinn Féin organisation in the early years of the Troubles in 1970 led to the Sinn Féin of today, which is a republican, left-wing nationalist and secular party.

I mean the so called most conservative party, the one labelled blueshirts & fascists by some shinners, has an openly gay Indian descent guy as leader.

Are you sure it’s you hasn’t been robbing clothes off the Lefties with that sort of identity politics nonsense? It has as much to do with Conservatism as Pritti Patel being a member of the “Conservative” Government in the UK, headed up by the consummate buffoon who, upon hearing that pensioners were having to spend all day on buses to keep warm, he pointed out that he introduced the free bus pass (he didn’t) -

It was the epitome of being unable to understand why people who are starving, couldn’t just eat cake.

IMO, generally speaking, working class is middle to low income, blue collar, unlikely to have attended third level, working people. They can be left, right or in the middle politically of course.

Yes agreed. These are the kinds of people who believe in conspiracies like the great replacement theory which is supposedly being orchestrated by some Jews according to a lot of these crackpots on here who believe they are the norm when in fact they are the outcasts of society with those opinions.

I doubt that geezer knows the difference between Trotskyism and the trots.

It's unfortunate that two of the OP's perfectly valid concerns - law and order and our ludicrously generous welfare system - have been ignored in favour of the usual hysterics about immigration.

The only reason the National Party doesn't get more votes is because they're led by an overt religious nut job. If a new centre right party emerged tomorrow with a more reasonable front person I think they'd do very well. I'd certainly vote for them if they committed to dealing with the 100 + conviction scumbags making a mockery of our justice system.

Its really not fair that the far-right do not have any political parties of note.

    I mean they do have

    • The NP
    • Direct Democracy
    • Identity Ireland
    • Irish Freedom Party
    • Renua
    • United People

But its not fair damnit! Nobody will vote for anyone in these parties so they have virtually no elected representatives!

Its not fair I say, voters need to vote for the far-right so they can get elected and then the actual handful of far-right wacko's in Ireland will have a warm fuzzy feeling because they got someone elected.... or something.

I wonder what the OP is doing about it, if anything.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Ah yes. Anything that isn't left wing is a conspiracy theory.

Modern political rhetoric is incredibly dull.

    Glazers Out!

Why are there so many posters on here that can't distinguish between Neo-Liberalism, Libertarianism and the "tHe lEft"?

    Fucking bizarre.

I don’t think anyone on Boards, that I’ve seen are far right. Do you have no valid points to raise, considering you are constantly making ones up??

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,037 ✭✭✭timmyntc

    Direct Democracy are right wing?

    United People?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,232 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

@[Deleted User] if you were to tally up values I’d be slightly left of centre…. Welfare, services, healthcare, left… unrestricted inward migration, no..right.

"unrestricted inward migration" is not necessarily a "left wing" ideal. The right absolutely love cheap imported labour because it drives down wages and working conditions, and that doesn't change when they're in power. They just have a song and dance about not wanting it and blaming it on a bogeyman.

Heavily Left and Heavily Right political ideologies are always doomed to fail.

The reason is that people with ideals are very polar:

If you're not full on left then you're right.

If you're not happy, then you're angry.

If you're not for something, then you're against it.

    etc, etc

This is basically what the USA and large parts of Asia have. (as they have gone to far and there is no centralist option)

In a political system like ours, where there is more than 2 parties, this setup ends up with in-party squabbling. It's amazing (and also not surprising) that the left parties in Ireland have been unable to unify and get organised as viable alternative.

Even with that being said, political ideals exist on a 2D plane as opposed to a 1D "Spectrum"

Communism opposes Capitalism and Socialism opposes Fascism (We don't use the F word anymore though).

There's always Pegida Ireland I guess, maybe try them

The modern Labour party have been utterly destroyed by the Blairites within. It doesn't represent any of the values that Keir Hardie leaned toward.

    You're wrong.

Anything that moves away from Corbynism and the far left is only a good thing.

Blair won because he wasn't left wing - but centrist.

When the Labour Party moves left, they have always gotten destroyed.

interesting, so instead of fixing the infrastructure problems mentioned, lets just stop foreigners coming in?

Liberal hippie dippie parents are also getting annoyed when their kids are on waiting lists for house's, and they're starting to wonder is all their sociatial liberal view points beneficial in the long run. While their daughter who's 26 and has a kid isn't getting a roof over their head, but others are walking over her and getting turn key accomoation. - who is the problem here, foreigners or layabouts? or the middle-class liberals? pick a side

But don't **** on our own in need, and leave them till last. - theyre not mutually exclusive though, we just have a terribly run government who are profiting personally from the current system

Back in my time a straight lad could say Jason over abroad in the valley is a handsome looking man, a good looking fellow the women love him. Then there was a glitch in the late 80's until the mid 90's if you find another guy attractive you're a gay or a bender, but it was just childish slagging. Say that today and you're cancelled. - .........what? i honestly dont understand your point here. you want to be able to mock gay people again? or you want to be able to use 'gay' etc, as an insult? id say get over it tbh.......

None of these woke self proclaimed liberal people are funny or witty. They're souless for the want of a description. Dead eye's in their heads. - id say they'd say the same about you tbh, absolute bollox

they had no proper upbringing and never had a good slap to wake them up. - the contradiction there is glaring

but I only got the wooden spoon a few times and had a great upbringing. - from your post thats very questionable

Isn't it mad how it's turned out that modern self proclaimed liberals are like Nazi's now and anything but liberal. - thats the vocal extremist minority who are heard more often that not nowadays because controversy drives clicks. the majority of 'left' leaning people are much closer to the centre (not that i agree with labelling politics anyway tbh). its a similar thing on both 'sides'

People are starting to wake up to the lies and manipulation. - what lies?

I'd never believed poles or stats, they're only a distraction. - fair enough with poles, but you do realise stats are generally facts right? question where they come from absolutely but if theyre from a sound source then you should absolutely believe them, the fact that you dont explains alot
