    The words are all predetermined by the guy who made the game. NYT doesn't have any input other than to remove "controversial" words like slave

    Ghost train the week runs from Fri to Thurs so yesterday's score will be in this weeks table.

    "Normal" words like soare or raise all the time would make it very boring, and would result in lots of 2s, even 1s now and then.

    As @Pawwed Rig said all the words are predetermined, about 2500 of them.

    There are bound to be some obscure ones.

    There are no 2s today so far and unlikely to be many genuine ones by the end of the day.

    By normal I meant in common use. You can have commonly used words that have some less used letters in them. Wouldn't have a problem with words like weave, virus, hazel, queue etc.... when you have to Google to check if it's a word that's frustrating.
