That's the thing though, isnt it? It's what he does in the ring that matters and what he's doing in the ring is extremely ordinary.

He squeaked a decision against an unranked opponent on Saturday but he's acting like he's about the smash Usman and trying to get Ole Oles going in a room with no Irish people in it!

It's easy to get behind a bit of warrented hype. And it's easy to get behind a good fighter with humility.

But when the bravado doesn't match the skills......... it's going to rub people up the wrong way.

You'd swear nobody else was at it. The majority of them talk the big talk. Don't be getting your knickers in a twist over something so trivial.

Whether other people do it is immaterial. This is the Ian Garry thread, so we're discussing Ian Garry doing it.

Also, other people doing it does not make it right. If others were doing it, they'd be rightly criticised also.

He's saying how everyone is going to call him daddy........ there's been nothing in his first two UFC performances to show that he won't be made into minced-meat by anyone in the Top 10.

There's no proof he will be either. He seems to have a decent defense against everything.

The "but you're talking about it, so it's working" stuff is old and played out. Proper barstool stuff.

At the end of the day, us talking about him is not going to go any way towards him being able to back up what he is saying.

Us talking about him is not going to stop him being pulled apart by the Khamzats, Colbys and Usmans of the world.

In his mind, he's the next Conor McGregor. In reality, there are 3-4 people talking about him on a thread with 60 posts in six months.

Nothing “mad” about it. It’s completely expected that he isn’t nearly as relevant as McGregor. Not nearly as skilful, and waaaaay too forced in his carry-on. And he never makes the front pages of the papers, but that’s a blessing, not a curse.

I wish him well though, hope he can carve out a decent career for himself. I’m 99% percent sure he’s a significantly better person than McGregor (it’d be difficult not to be) so he has that going for him at least.

It says it all though that I didn’t even know he was fighting this weekend until this thread was bumped, and I’m surely not the only one.

He's a very smart fighter, using his strengths and avoiding the opposition's strengths. He has a good team in his corner and he listens to them. It'll be interesting to see how far he gets.

He hurt his marketability I think by leaving Tom and Chris, he's obviously in a fantastic gym now but he lost that Irish attraction to him like McGregor had by going to the US. McGregor still has that thing to him where he lives and trains in Dublin, a global superstar but Irish all the way so you will have lads taking out loans to go see him in Vegas and sing Ole Ole Ole.

It's interesting that he goes on about family. I think it'll appeal to lots of casual fans if he can maintain a 'clean cut' image. It might make him a lot of money.

I think they'll take their time with him and build his reputation.

I'm thinking 2 more fights and then someone washed up but a big name like Robbie Lawler. Beat a legend, get that profile up then start hitting the top 15. WW is pretty average outside the Top 5 so it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him pick up wins against ranked opponents.

I think any top 15 fighter beats him at this stage.

He's taking it from McGregor's persona. It just doesn't come across as genuine.

I like the guy despite that. It's clear he is a hard worker and listens to his coaches. I hope he has a great career. I don't know anything about his partner apart from.her being much older than him and them having a child. I don't care to know either, I'm only concerned about what happens in the ring. I try to avoid information about their personal lives but unfortunately sometimes it's impossible to not see things come up about them.

the only problem is you cant really coach or train someone to be charismatic, his personality is developed at his age and he is going to be stuck like that.

He doesn't actually listen to his coaches though, was removed from Team KF for exactly that, being arrogant and uncoachable.

I wanted to like this lad but every single time I hear him speak I like him less.
