Is it interview and presentation or just interview?

Just on the above, does anyone use the STAR method when answering the specialist knowledge and public service values competencies?

I can’t recall an interview where I’ve answered them in that format and they seem much better suited to several short examples.

How is everyone getting on with the practical exercise? I must say i'm finding it a bit daunting.

I haven't got mine yet . Interview and presentation not until the week of the 18th . Is it that bad 😭

  • Registered Users Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

Haven’t received the presentation material yet. What’s daunting, the content or the actual presenting? If it’s the latter read through some of the older HEO threads and they outline that it’s not as formal as you might expect.

    Apologies

Anyone who lets you know the actual topics for the presentation will be in breach of the competition, and will also be affording you significantly extra time to prepare compared to everybody else unfairly. Don't ask.

In terms of general format, it's exactly as expected.

Jesus I'd say your great fun at parties, what difference if people have a few more weeks to prepare it's about getting as many over the line as possible

The sad truth is the competition is unfair. The people who are in Batch 1 are at a disadvantage because unlike everyone else who comes after them, they can’t ask their colleagues for advice or read the boards threads for help. I’ve seen this happen in the last competition and it will be no different in this one.

A very strange logic there. Does the same logic apply to the interview process?

One should be judged on ones merits, and not the random postings of anonymous members of a social media platform.

You are bound by the same standards of honestly and integrity as anyone else who is a genuine prospect for management. This includes the prospect of cheating, or of risking someone else's position on the panel from affording you an unfair advantage.

If you're good enough to make it as a HEO, you'll be good enough to do the exercises in the same timeframe given to everyone else. And if you're not, you're not.

Jesus relax there lads I was only having the craic..but you are correct that we are bound that being the case I suppose none of you are asking managers/ aps/pos for help or to review your examples or for mock interviews..sure that's cheating aswelll

Everyone gets a helping hand in the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 82 ✭✭08122019

Nah let’s be honest, most people only care about getting themselves over the line and once they’ve gotten their info and done the interview you won’t see them on the thread again.

Didn’t mean to quote this…just boards sh*t interface.

Are interviews starting next Monday and does anyone know how long they will run for? Trying to gauge will there be another batch soonish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,051 ✭✭✭Augme

For those looking for the presentation to get started on itbearly, invest tha time learning your interview examples instead. That will make a much bigger difference. I doubt having the presentation any earlier will make that much of a difference to someone's chances.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭hungerjames

Yes they're starting Monday July 11th. At least in Dublin, I imagine they'll be continuously running from then on so no idea about next batches. I don't think you'll be waiting too long if you had an OK order of merit.

I just got the topics for my report. Has anyone else got theirs? My interview is on 15 July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭applejunkie

have you done an Interdepartmental HEO before? How did you find it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭applejunkie

No its my first time doing it , dreading it to be honest

  • Registered Users Posts: 119 ✭✭Ber25

I see the interviews are taking place over a two week period. Does anyone know how many have been called from the first batch that passed the shortlisting?

Is there another group to be interviewed from this batch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭applejunkie

The message I got said they have shortlisted up to number 442 in this batch and the rest would be done later . They took the top 140 after shortlisting in batch to Interview and Presentation

Please note, candidates scores will carry across for each county they applied for. However, at present only candidates up to and including the order of merit 422 from Stage 1 Dublin and order of merit 55 from Stage 1 Galway have been assessed at Stage 2. Further shortlisting will take place at a later date.

It is envisaged that candidates up to and including the order of merit 140 from Stage 2 Dublin will be invited to Stage 3 Interview & Presentation in early July 2022.

    Thanks. That clarifies it.

I wasn't in the first group who were shortlisted so I assume those of us with OOMs greater than 422 will have to wait until everyone from batch 1 has been interviewed before find out if we have been shortlisted.

No should be shortlisted while the interviews are being conducted

Best of luck to anyone up today.
