Stay with Vodafone or move to Three?

Hey guys,

I'm currently with Vodafone on RED Unlimited Max Sim Only which is €45 a month for over 2 years now but looking around I have noticed that Three is €30 for 6 months rising to €40 on bill pay Sim Only or €30 p/m on PAYG Sim Only. I'm based in Dublin in a good area of coverage and I use my phone for work quite a bit but also hotspot my laptop while on the go so I would prefer to stay in 5G coverage. Apparently Vodafone Sim Only don't receive Wifi Calling so I don't think switching to Three would make much of a difference in that regard. Any recommendations on either? Anything I should consider?

All Vodafone PAYG and BillPay plans support Wifi Calling and 4G Calling since about April this year. Vodafone have a PAYG offer for €30 p/m which includes unlimited calls, texts and 5G data.

Three are currently upgrading all masts with multiple layers of 4G and 5G. Depending on the area you could see much higher speeds with Three.

The only reason I wouldn't move to them is the lack of Wifi-calling and 4G calling (VoLTE).

This report from April shows Three beating both Vodafone and Eir on Coverage and Consistency which I find to be the biggest quality indicators.

Have a look here, NR on Three sites are 5G and generally have good 4G capacity.

You can see scheduled work here, doesn’t necessarily mean an upgrading is happening

This is some great info, thanks so much. I'm more conflicted now because I use my hotspot so much but call quality is important too. I'll have a bit more of a think and check the masts around me.

If call quality is important which it is for me I’d go with Vodafone for now and consider moving to Three when they launch WiFi-calling and VoLTE.

Also worth noting you’ll have better quality calls Vodafone to Vodafone than Vodafone to Three. Same with Three to Three as HD quality calling wasn’t working cross network last time I checked.

Changed to Vodafone from Three last month to get sim card in my name. Vodafone not bad but Internet not great. You can't hotspot on Vodafone. Changing back to three next week.

Are you sure? I connected to a hotspot from a friends phone that’s on the Vodafone network.

You absolutely can use the hotspot on Vodafone, I do on a very regular basis
