Proposed T/T1 licence for agricultural vehicles only allow for <40km/h tractors

    Reading about the proposed T/T1 licences for tractors both are going to restricted to 40km/h so that means that anyone who currently doesn't have W wanting to use a fast tractor will need to get a CE licence. This is going to have big issues for contractors and farmers who have fast tractors as any new comers won't be able to drive them on the road, silage and other off farm road work is going to get expensive and even harder to find people if this comes in as proposed.

    Are they going to retrict them to 40k or to 40 k tractors, there'd be a big difference there.

    Surely putting 40 on the back of tractor/implement if you're driving a 50K tractor should be enough

    Weight limits would stop them drawing silage though etc

    Think that's a mistake in the table of the article. The article says a T licence allows you to drive heavier and faster machines but the table shows same speed for both.


    I honestly think it's only right at this stage, the W license was created in a time when tractors were slower and lighter, makes no sense that a 16 year old on a provisional license with zero driving experience can drive such large and fast articulated vehicles.

    Completely agree with your last paragraph above emaherx, allowing things as they have been for many years now with weight, size, power & speed are a complete mockery of what a hgv driver has to go through to get qualified .


    Truth be told it's a concession to farming as it is now.youngsters fall out of school in 2nd half of may to be around to draw silage.

    Heard the contractor's association guy on local radio some weeks back.he welcomed the proposal from CEETTAR, which he would as the contractor's association is a member of CEETTAR.

    My guess on this is if they didn't come up with some proposal for tweaking around the edges, (& that's all it will turn out to be in reality at the end of the day)the relevant authorities/ rule maker's in the eu, would have proposed & introduced something much like the hgv licence qualification.

    But that won't happen as the farming lobby is strong & just look at the haulage industry & it's shortage in recent times.

    It's very hard to argue with alot of these proposals and I wouldn't .but the reality of the situation is alot of farmers have now become too "posh to push "when it comes to getting work done and alot of the work is now being done by teenagers doing 16 hour +days.its ridiculous what's going on and wouldn't be allowed in any other industry .

    Only a matter of time really.

    The W licence dated from a time the average tractor was little bigger than a ride on lawnmower and about as fast, sharing the road with donkeys and perhaps the occasional car.
