2022 World Athletics Championships, Oregon

Looking forward to seeing Rhasidat Adeleke the most. Not expecting her to medal or anything but intrigued to see how fast she can go against proper senior competition for the first time. She clearly has huge potential.

Seems to be a bit of a logistical nightmare for some overseas athletes trying to get to Oregon, visa issues (which I presume should have been sorted before now) and flight cancellations. Not ideal preparation.

Noticed that as well but she is also selected for the 4x100 and there was no sign of any of them in the report and she may in that event rather than the mixed relay. (Could of course do both)

Alternatively she may be in Texas with her coach rather than with the team at that stag. This is only a guess on my part.

Any good podcast or radio previews of the worlds particularly with an Irish angle?

I see that although she was originally listed for the 4x100 Kate Doherty is now named on the official list instead of her.

Is the nightly show BBC will be showing live footage or just a catch up? Think I seen someone say above that main races are from 1am which would be a pity.

Thought she was as Elizabeth Egan had her on her spreadsheet, although that was not an official source.

Tough heat for Sarah Healy. Hopefully she can pull it out of the bag.

I’m optimistic for the mixed relay. That’s a strong squad. O’Donnell is in good form, Adeleke is clearly talented, and Becker is very solid. Don’t know much about Jack Raftery, but hopefully he performs well.

Fingers crossed they make the final. Feel a bit disappointed Sharlene Mawdsley wasn’t selected; she’s a strong relay runner. I think we’re putting out our ‘A’ team though.

If anything, Rhasidat went off a tad too quickly in the first 200m but a great lap from her and they qualified with ease.

Chris O’Donnell did great on the first leg too. Raftery and Adeleke were stellar. Loved seeing an Irish team so competitive.

Hate to say it, but Sophie Becker was mediocre. It might be worth substituting in Sharlene Mawdsley. I’ve seen her raise her game a few times in relays. We really need our second woman running well below 52 in the final.

I think Chris ran a sensible leg and looks like he has more to offer. Sophie looked to have ran solid but not sure there's more to find, so maybe Sharlene. With legs 3 & 4 repeating their efforts, they'd be in the mix for bronze.

True. However, her SB/PB is 51.83. She only delivered a 52.2x performance in that leg from a running start. I believe she was either the slowest or second slowest woman. Not impressive.

Sharlene’s PB is 51.70 and she has run 52.10 very recently. She’s not far behind at all. She also ran stellar relay legs in the world relays last year and in the world indoors in Belgrade earlier this year, keeping pace with Kaczmarek of Poland. I feel like she has the potential to really raise her game here. Team will probably remain the same though.

Adeleke pulled out of the final - apparently she was ill after the heat.

Don't think Ireland would have medalled anyway, the time was exceptionally fast.

I was expecting a US 1-2-3 in the 100 not so sure now. Jacobs was a DNS.

Dina Asher Smith looked impressive in her 100 heat.

I feel the same. I think it’s the venue, Hayward field. It lacks the gravitas of some of the European venues like Berlin, Oslo, Letzigrund etc.. The flip side is that it’s a more intimate atmosphere for spectators.
