Final v Fiji coming up in a couple of minutes

  • Registered Users Posts: 469 ✭✭Happyhouse22

Winning at halftime - well nearly. 14 12 to Fiji

Aaagh, such a soft score to give up there

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,433 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Done and dusted. Making too many mistakes

    Fiji are just so good.

Our lads can be very proud of themselves. It's a great panel, if we can hold onto them all we'll win a couple of tournaments.

Scraped into tomorrow's quarters after a dramatic late try against Argentina after being 17 - 0 ahead at HT. The fact that it was the Argies means it has a fairly big impact at the top of the series rankings. We're up against NZ I think tomorrow.

The progress they have made in the few years is impressive. Great to get a medal last tournament.

I noticed Ireland isn’t in the 7s WC. Why is that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,041 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

They havent held the european qualifiers yet. theyre on in July. 4 spots still up for grabs and England, Scotland and France already are qualified so Ireland almost certainly will get one of those 4 spots

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,373 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

We had a very tough draw in London. If we get fifth it'll be a great performance. Even if we get sixth I'll have enjoyed the tournament because it means we beat England. That game is at 2.04pm.

Another good outing finishing sixth. Gave South Africa a great fight in the fifth place playoff, it was 0-0 at halftime with great defense from Ireland.

    It finished 14-5.

I asked a stupid question. Thought it was the woman’s thread, not the 7’s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,041 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Just watched men beat Portugal 29-0. Portugal kicked lot ball back to Ireland so made it very easy. Game against Italy tomorrow to decide who tops the group before knockouts.. Spain, Belgium, Germany and Wales top two from other pools. Only need to finish top 4 to qualify for world cup

Women also won 27-0 v germany. So are top of their pool with Czech republic also unbeaten. we play them before knockouts tomorrow.

Belgium, England, Poland and Spain are two unbeaten sides from the other 2 pools. Like men only need finish top 4 to qualify for world cup

Looks like Ireland Georgia in the mens quarterfinal and Ireland Portugal in the women's Quarterfinal.

In both quarterfinals we are playing against a "best third place team" as we won our group and did sufficiently well to be seeded.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

The Irish Women lead Portugal 21-0 at half time in the quarter final.

Win and they reach the last 4 and World Cup qualification.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

Final score 36-0 leaving Ireland Belgium Poland and Wales qualifying to the semi finals and the rwc 7s.

Men play Georgia 5.36pm in 1/4s and if they win qualify for world cup

Thats qualification for women now. Great to see. Missing out on world cup would been big disappointment

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

First few minutes of the mens match with Georgia I thought the Irish were the weaker side.

It turned around though with two tries late in the first half.

Half time score Ireland 12 Georgia 7.

Maybe the Georgian team ran out of gas. They seem quiet large for a sevens squad.

This ref has proven time and time again that he hasn't a clue how the breakdown works...

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

Forgive my lack of 7s knowledge but how long does a sin bin last??

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭Shehal

Sin bin is 2 minutes at 7s

Ireland made a complete dogs dinner of this match but fortunately just got over the line and atleast now will be in the World Cup of 7s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

Final score 17-12 sends Ireland through the last 4 and the Rugby World Cup.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,041 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Men play Portugal in pre last 16 round while Women play Brazil in last 16.

Our season worst performance was 9th place which is 8 points. Given that we are 8 points ahead of usa and 11 ahead of France they could win the event and come second and overtake us sending us down to 7th.

That would entirely be based on a USA/France miracle performance though.

We just beat France 14-12. This is a valuable result for us as they are the 3rd seeded team in our group.
