Is there an alarm system that I can activate/deactivate while out of country, e.g. from my smartphone.

In would assume it is connected to my home wi-fi network.

Yes there is, is it for a wired alarm or wire free alarm you are looking for?

Nearly anything made in the last 20 years has some form of remote control. My bargain basement system from ages ago uses SMS and can be armed/disarmed/queried that way. Not reliant on wifi but is reliant on one specific mobile network - I believe there is a wifi card option for it but its quite outdated.

Would be a replacement panel then - doubt there's any on the market that aren't at least SMS capable

The UTC advanced panel comes with a Lan port so you can use this and the app to control from anywhere once both have a connection

Thanks. Sounds like what I'm thinking of. Any idea of a ballpark cost for upgrading an existing system (HKC)?

We don't give out pricing on here, upgrading your system from the HKC to this is just a swap of the panel and keypad.

All other component's will work unless they are point ID
