Horrible draw for Pres in the junior cup.

Michael’s v Rock in the 1st round of the senior cup is probably a good one for all the other schools.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

Winner of Rock Michaels should walk the cup.. Gonzaga probably third strongest side but miles off the top two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Probably is as if they avoided each other it would most likely be the final but shows the faults/issues that arise from straight knock out rugby. would love to see a change.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Don't know about Zaga to be honest. Beat a very strong Pres Bray side a couple of weeks back but needed two late yellow cards to do so. Would fancy Pres to beat them if they met again.

Mary's haven't been going too badly by all accounts. Beaten in friendlies by Blackrock and Michaels but not by much on either occasion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Well In fairness it might give another school a run they wouldn’t have had. If they were eventually going to meet and knock one or other out. Does it matter when? Probably makes for a less interesting final but a better competition.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

nah some of the best underage players in the province are going to play one cup game.. not great for their development.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

As opposed to 4 games against teams they would stroll through?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

And it could be far better if all the players got more games within the competition. It might see another school get 70 minutes more in the cup but that still isnt good enough.

Would they? And it still isnt good enough for those schools who may get well beaten by strong sides even if there is a plate, that gets zero attention even from some of the schools competing after all the hype of the cup games.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

I really don't think that makes much of a difference.

If it was the case over a number of seasons then yes, fair enough, but some of the best players in the province will already be well looked after when their season is over whether its the first round or the final.

The Cup is a showcase event, nothing more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

That its a showcase event means even more that the kids playing should get more games to play in it. Problem is with your statement just some of the best will already be looked after when season is over. far more could be assessed more if they had more opportunities in cup games.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

That’s actually fair enough. I was talking in the context of two schools who already have some of the best. They would have been highlighted already.

I do take your general point though.

    Ireland U19 v France U19, Queen's University Belfast, KO 14.00 (BST)

Does anyone know of stream that might be available to watch this game? I'm over in England and my nephew may be playing. Many thanks in advance.

Sadly, whilst the Six Nations streamed the U18s game there is no link for the U19s.

finished 46-26 at half time to ireland.

some impressive backs on display, could have been wider margin if a few forwards passed.

The u18's have some decent talent. There's a lot for the coaching staff to be pleased with. I was impressed with Murphy. He was better than Naughton, imo.

The captain , Berman looked really good and the fullback. In the forwards, Sparrow and both 2nd rows were quite good and the 8 was exceptionally powerful and agile.

Solomon from Ulster is one to watch. He gets around the pitch and looks to have a bright future. I thought that the pack was a little undersized. But they really put in a big effort. France did get on top of them in the 1st match. There was a noticeable difference in size up front.

All in all, there is a lot to look forward to in this group.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,733 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Leinster development side beaten well by the clubs and schools squad. I was surprised as I thought Leinster would have played better.

Spicer looked good from the highlights. Could be some prospect.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,087 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

The lack of Connacht representation across the various underage teams is pretty disappointing, especially after the extremely strong group born in 2001, which has already contributed 4 senior players. Is the talent simply not there? There would usually be a decent contingent in the clubs and schools side at least.

Most competitions finished at this stage. Leinster had cup finals days in Donnybrook over recent weekends. Connacht same in Sportsground.

Munster provincial competitions over a month or so and its been regional leagues and cups being finished up over last few weeks. Interestingly all bar 2 of the 11 Munster under 16 and 18 competitions this season were won by Cork clubs

Not sure i agree with the players primarily listed as schools playing for the clubs team but good to see wide range of clubs involved

Connacht 18s played 19s today with 17s playing EIRA next week
