There's a Halloween special as well, based on the Werewolf By Night

Really should be seeing stuff soon about Black Panther. I suppose they just wanted to get Thor out of the way. But they really need to the publicity train given the loss of Chadwick Boseman. God, he was impressive. I know NOTHING about the character so I won't compare to the comics but, as a movie character, he absolutely NAILED it. To have SUCH an audience impact in Civil War.... A movie that had all the top tier MCU characters bar Hulk and Thor. AND bringing in (the also fantastic) Spidey???!!! And then Black Panther movie? Sure, the world fixated at the time about it being the first black superhero movie (I know, I know. Don't go there 😀 ) But looking back now, after the hysteria, it is still one of the strongest of the MCU movies. Of course it bungles the ending with shonky CGI and yet another CGI large scale battle scene. Standard MCU. But it had the most interesting bad guy (Remember that it's a young Killmonger asking his dad about the wonders of Wakanda in the opening). It had strong female characters without that eye-gougingly awful Endgame sequence. They were bad-asses who just happened to be women. BFD. They had characters that actually FELT human. It had the best soundtrack (The music in the casino scene is awesome). The Soundtrack to Into The Spiderverse was superb too but not MCU. Check out the "What Up Danger" scene on YouTube if you've already seen the movie to remind yourself). As a middle-aged white Irishman, I could give a flying f* about it being The First Black Superhero Movie(tm) - Again, I know.... It was simply one of MCU's best: (For me, in no particular order, top 5: Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Civil War).

So they potentially have a tough time ahead. They have lost an extremely charismatic lead actor. There have been rumblings about a troubled shoot and troublesome actors. While it was only 4 years since the first one, it seems like so much longer for so many reasons. So I expect them to start a major campaign starting with Comic-Con shortly. They need to get it on people's radar sharpish.

Reports today that The X-Men movie will be called The Mutants.

We've previously heard that the X-Men's official debut in the MCU would be a film called The Mutants, but that was via fan site and scooper outlets; this time, we are getting word from more "official" trade outlets, which seem to confirm everything we heard from the earlier rumors.

I kind of like this idea.

A title like The Mutants has suggest that Marvel Studios could indeed do a larger exploration of the entire mutant community and world (or hidden world), before focusing on its heroic icons, the X-Men.

I think The Mutants sounds more suited to a Disney+ series where it can focus on different characters. For a movie the name sounds like a low budget horror movie.

And "The Dark Knight" and "Man of Steel" sounds like pornos. 😛

Seriously, especially if it's going to be mutants not related to Xavier, The Mutants is a good name.

I could see a disconnected adventure about some mutants, with the finale or Post Credits featuring the new Xavier, reacting to the events of the film with a decision to open a school.

Though not to be confused with The New Mutants.

Sounds odd. I mean, sure the X-men movies have been very inconsistent in quality (Think X-men 2, New Class and Days of Future Past with X-men 3 and Apokalypse).

But they are a HUGE property and many will be really excited about seeing X-men and FF being brought into MCU.

Unless it's a sort of soft intro like pixelburp suggests (Introducing the IDEA of mutants with a post-credit stinger of Prof X which will lead to a proper full-on X-men movie).

I mean, if it is a full-on X-Men movie with Prof X and other tier 1 members then why not use use the name? As others have said, it's quite a low-key name. It SHOULD be titled "Holy f*****! It's Prof X & Cyclops and Jean Grey with Spiderman and Hulk and Thor and sh*t".... Part 1 lol

It's an odd choice. On the one hand, probably want to separate it from the previous X-Men films and have a clean break, especially if they want to use some of the same subtitles (Days of Future Past, Apocalypse etc). The new Spiderman movies did similar with each film having a subtitle to distinguish it from previous.

On the other hand, X-Men is such a recognisable brand name that it feels kinda crazy they're not just going to go with "X-Men: (New subtitle)". Calling it The Mutants just feels so much more bland.

I'd say @pixelburp is spot on.

Xavier emerges from Krakoa at the end to establish a school in America for the newly manifested kid mutants, while also showing that he already has some adult X-Men.

I know "Caltech" is a real place but I bet there's going to be more to it than meets the eye in the MCU.

"Bruno meet your lecturers, Bruce Banner, Erik Solveig and Hank McCoy."

You know what I think is the best Fantastic 4 movie?

The Incredibles 😜 (How Pixar got away with that one in the days before they were under the Disney umbrella who knows)

I wonder what kind of tone the F4 will have. On a scale from of Logan dark to Love and Thunder silly where would F4 fit in?

Anyone have a few quid to spare?

Marvel has unveiled a collection of 'Infinity Stones' comprised of actual precious gems with a combined value of more than $25 million – and their very own Infinity Gauntlet.

As for their real-life classifications, the Time Stone is a Colombian emerald, the Space Stone is a sapphire from Madagascar, the Reality Stone is an oval-shaped natural ruby from Mozambique, the Power Stone is an oval-shaped natural amethyst, the Soul Stone is a cushion-shaped Spessartite, and the Mind Stone is a brilliant cut yellow diamond.

Black panther 2 trailer was too class but a shame that it seems to be leading to shuri becoming the new BP

Except her mother's character does at one point in the trailer say "My entire family is gone" so I wonder 🤔

Good to see Winston Duke back

Phew. I mean, that is a lot.

Think at this stage I'm going to have to stop religiously trying to follow/watch every iteration and just stick with the stuff that interests me.

Might put me on the narrative backfoot but that's what Wikipedia is for lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,018 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Honestly, the only thing that worries me about everything they announced, is that Daredevil will be 18 episodes. Given that we already have the backstory and history of these characters and most of the supporting cast, thats a lot of momentum to try keep going for a season 3 times as long as some of their others like Loki, Moon Knight and Ms.Marvel which did have some dips in the middles. Surely they could have found some way to break it into two seasons and give themselves a chance to adjust between seasons if there were issues with the first season.

Either that or they're telling a long story detailing both Matt and Fisk's journeys over the last few years as well as how and why they're interacting with Hawkeye, Echo, She-Hulk etc.

Big ‘wasn’t this in phase four before?’ vibes off of phase five.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Yeah I wonder if reshoots were needed for some or were impacted by Covid. Next year is going to be packed. Interesting that both Avengers films are in the same year. I'm guessing something big like the Snap happens at the end of the first film like all Multiverses merging and Secret Wars will lead to reboot of the MCU. The 2015 Secret Wars event in the comics is good example.

Also didn't see Armor Wars in Phase 4,5, or 6 so wonder what happened there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,018 ✭✭✭✭Penn

They didn't really announce anything for Phase 6, so I'm assuming Armor Wars will be in there. I think Cheadle was shown in the Secret Invasion trailer, and Ironheart will be towards the end of Phase 5 and it probably leads into Armor Wars.

True but the scene towards the end with BP extends the claws looks very feminine..
