Very emotional Pat Spillane, he just explained why..lovely but sad story !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 601 ✭✭✭WJL

Terrible anyone who loses a parent young. Can understand Pat's emotion.

Hard luck Galway, the better team won, don't think there can be too many complaints. Thought McDaid was outstanding, Walsh too, finally did something in CP but Clifford was immense, as good a footballer as there's ever been

It’s amazing that it’s come full circle that his dad was a selector against Galway and his last game on the Sunday game is Kerry vs Galway.

Great final, massive entertainment, some serious scores

Jeepers I'd hate to have you as my team manager..You'd have very high standards !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,375 ✭✭✭Gael85

Better team won. Galway ran out of legs and lack of bench killed them

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,940 ✭✭✭MayoAreMagic

You have to give it to kerry. No panic when it wasnt going their way. They powered on as the finish line came into focus whereas Galway started to kick wides make mistakes.

Walsh is a great player. We have seen him do that in connacht - far more dangerous than comer to my mind. It was good to see him do it in a bigger stage. No doubt some people will give out about him for missing that last kick when they were still close, but that is nonsense.

I was shouting for Galway (the underdog) but delighted for Pat signing off on a Kerry All Ireland victory. Best wishes Pat.

Right, you! 50 push ups for that comment.! Now!

Great day . Galway finished after 55min legs were gone, Kerry won after a hard game but pulling away.

O'Connor winning the League and All Ireland in the first year of his reign three times is a great stat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,375 ✭✭✭Gael85

Think kerry will dominate for next 4/5 years. Dublin are in transition. Can't see Galway or Mayo or Ulster getting near them . kerry will only get better and Jack will want to win back to back AI at senior level.

Kerry will definately be there or thereabouts over the next few years. Like they are every year just about. They'll probably win another All Ire. Maybe a couple. Who knows for sure though? An injury to David Clifford and they become an ordinary enough team. Only time will tell.

  • Registered Users Posts: 601 ✭✭✭WJL

    Very well summed up.

That goalie gave away 2 points when he could have shepherded the Kerry player.

Interesting to see where Galway go from here.

Would love to know if Comer was carrying some injury, could possibly have been after the semi. If he was fully fit, then I think Joyce got his game plan very wrong. Don't think he threatened Kerry once.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,980 ✭✭✭Lucy8080

It may be that Kerry just needed any kind of sloppy win to get their first under their belt. The do have talent on that team. But ,jeez, an All Ireland medal in the back pocket takes away a lot of nervous tension in the seasons ahead. They are the team to beat in the next few years.

"Looked comfortable" with their "poor shooting" ?

Galway did definitely need a goal and the team with the better skill does usually come good in the final 10 because they put less work into the other 60 to stay level. We saw this all championship with the Limerick hurlers too.

Only seemed to come to life in the last 10 minutes

16 points won’t win too many finals

Only 2 of their forwards scored and one of them is a converted half back.

Turns out they don’t have the forwards

Shane walsh was sensational today to be fair . But all the rest didn’t turn up including comer

Fair play to Kerry. They kept playing football and found a way in the end . They are entirely reliant on Clifford though. Next year is wide open

The man is a legend in fairness (the fekker🤣)

  • Registered Users Posts: 770 ✭✭✭French Toast

Inevitable result. Fair play to Galway for keeping it competitive for the most part.

    Target-man Comer was quiet today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,473 ✭✭✭JustJoe7240

    2 marks, 2 frees, 4 from play.

Assuming this is trolling, and a poor attempt also

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,143 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I think you can only class a win as comfortable if your team is winning from the first minute, like kilkenny used to do when they were winning titles in a row. Kerry looked uncomfortable for the majority with the amount of wides they had but just the experience of finals helped them not panic. Can see Tyrone beating them next year but no one else.

So they are playing U2 music. Why are they not playing Walking on cars??

Jeez I got weepy looking at Pat breaking down in the studio. For all his foibles, that emotion was genuine and easy to understand.

    My team of the championship:

Ethan Rafferty (Armagh)- pick of the bunch in a non-vintage year for goalies.

Chrissy McKaigue (Derry)- solid all year, shut out most of his opponents.

Seán Kelly (Galway)- excellent all year, and steady today.

Tom O'Sullivan (Kerry)- stand-out back of the championship for me.

Brendan Rogers (Derry)- bit of a utility man but in Derry's top performers every day.

John Daly (Galway)- under-rated playmaker, forward runs posed problems today.

Gavin White (Kerry)- injury-hampered final, but has taken up Jack McCaffrey's mantle as the speedster of the game.

Cillian McDaid (Galway)- 0-4 points in the final to cap off one of the best championship campaigns ever from a midfielder.

Conor Glass (Derry)- before today, I would have just plumped for Conroy, but he was below-par while Glass was probably more consistent overall.

Ciaran Kilkenny (Dublin)- excellent in defeat vs Kerry. Mr. Consistent.

Seanie O'Shea (Kerry)- quiet today by his high standards, but Kerry wouldn't have been there without him.

Rian O'Neill (Armagh)- was perhaps a FOTY candidate earlier in the campaign, Armagh's heartbeat.

David Clifford (Kerry)- the fielding of Donaghy, finesse of Maurice Fitz and Gooch. Genie.

Con O'Callaghan (Dublin)- his importance best measured by his absence vs Kerry.

Shane Walsh (Galway)- as good a performance ever seen from a losing finalist. Clutch free taker.

Graham O'Sullivan, Jarlath Og Burns, Paul Conroy, Damien Comer unlucky to miss out.

    FOTY: Clifford.
