Saw BK5's post and got a feeling of deja vu, then I remembered I had started a thread on this last October (& I'm sure if you back far enough someone else did previous years too) but rather than retype, my opening post is pretty much the same now.

I'm back to work today after having the last week off, WFH (& my home office is doing its best sauna impression) so may be totally obtuse & stick on classical & carols or suchlike in an attempt to cool down Mel Tome style https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Christmas_Song

Afternoon all, been offline for a bit as my work situation changed slightly and was trying to find the lay of the land....still not sure I'm there yet tbh!

Hope everyone is enjoying the heatwave! It's actually raining at the minute in the North East! Hoping it will lift the horrid heavy feeling - the temperature is not as high today as yesterday but I swear, it feels so much more intense!

150s already - time is flying! If anyone knows where to get a toy cement mixer, please let me know so that I can point Santa in the right direction 🎅

I think the fact that August is just around the corner made me think of things like the evenings getting shorter and the BT Christmas shop opening when does people on here start getting the "tingles". I think waiting till Halloween is over is a natural progression though and good to keep that structure.

One of the music channels, I think it was Trace, played Christmas music from about the second week of September last year and even I had to say that's too early. Although I love the cookery programmes coming on.

I know a lot of people had their trees up early and very early in the last couple of years because they were cooped up in the house with Covid but the wife and I have decided to wait till the first Saturday in December this year to decorate because we decorated in November the last couple of years but ended up taking them down before the 6th of January and we'd prefer to leave them up till then.

Oh yes, that is the ticket, thank so much! We'll soon have our own construction company 😂

I'm probably going to come across like a humbug but I'm so glad the weathers cooled down. Apart from last night I've been having awful sleeps. I took a half days leave yesterday just because I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and needed a nap.

I've so much more energy and you still don't have to wear a jumper. Its a win for me!

I like the warm weather, as, let's face it, we don't get a lot of it and it's gone in a flash! But I certainly wouldn't be jealous of the heatwaves in Spain/Portugal/France right now!! ☀️☀️

The fires there looked terrifying and devastating. And watching the news and seeing those houses in London burning. Scary stuff. 😟

Was down in westport today, 13 degrees... felt a tad chilly after the highs of the last few days. Ended up getting to 17 degrees before I left but still, nearly half of what it was on monday in Dublin.

Glad people are enjoying the nice weather, how down under they can Christmas in that heat is a mystery

Lets hope for a good budget in October, Feel its going to be hard Christmas for some due to the costs of living

exciting that its going to be the first xmas since 2019 believe it or not that it will be proper hospitality hours etc. None of this '8pm/00.30am close, €9 mandatory meal, 6 to a table' etc

Just back from London, few there yesterday morning for a consultant appointment - jesus, there's no way to describe it but at 39C it was disgustingly hot. Left the doctors office and went to our hotel, 1 Km away and I thought I'd actually keel over. We didn't leave the hotel again until checkout this morning as we just couldn't bear the heat. Thank god for air con. Today was much better at 27c. I can honestly say that I hope to never experience heat like it again. Never got to Harrods Christmas shop 😪.

I know it was a short week for me having been off on Monday, but boy am I glad its Friday. Been a tough return to the office catching up on everything that happened in the few days I had off. Unfortunately for the weekend the weather looks wet & warm so not ideal, but fingers crossed theres a few breaks that will allow us out for walks etc.

Have to admit I'm craving a bit of the build up to start now, and with August just around the corner you can almost sense it coming in the distance, think that's what has my christmas senses tingling for the first time this year, may need to scratch that itch with an out of season film or suchlike, I know we did that last summer too and it didn't impact the build up in the slightest so may need to do something like that to get me through as I'm not getting my christmas fix in here these days with it being so quiet.

Still wont be too long now...

Interest rates going up yesterday with a nod towards a further increase later in the year is not what many wanted to hear at the moment either. Could be tight for many this year.

We actually just fixed at a lower rate for 5 years last month and looking at the news yesterday, I'm so glad we did!

In Christmasy news, ordered this from Next for my little boy 😁

Exciting and such a great thing for us in Waterford

Heading up to the city town neighbours in Kilkenny today. Doing the smithwicks tour and have a few pints after then

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

By next Friday there will be less than 150 days to go! 😮😃👍️

So glad the week is over myself, was working outside on site and there was steam coming off me on Monday and Tuesday. Wore a cap to protect my face and head but it also made me even warmer. Tough enough week as we had a few breakdowns so going to have a take away and a beer, cheers everyone.

Drizzly and windy here, has that late October kind of feel. Nothing planned so don't care!

On a sidenote does anyone have any good sites for being newborn Christmas themed clothes? With one on the way I think I need to stock up 😁

@Smell the glove you'll get loads in Dunnes, Penneys etc closer to the time but Next have some bits at the minute.

Guess where I was this morning....M50 Christmas shop 😄 My little boy couldn't believe his luck! Had to drag him out of the place 🤣

You would probably have to drag most of the people in this thread out of it also 🤣

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

I only live up the road in Ashbourne so I call into the M50 Christmas shop at least once every summer, just to get my fix ha ha.

I actually went in to look at paving so hubby brought little man around the Christmas section 😆 It's a nice afternoon out, if you've never been or you're passing by. We're not too far from it so I think the 'magic' of it is a lost on me at this stage. Plenty of lights and large figures etc. They'll always have something you won't find anywhere else 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

Thanks for the heads up about Next as well. Got a nice Christmas dungarees for her 😁

Awh you're having a little girl? How lovely! I'm 39 weeks now and we've managed to keep it a surprise. I'm absolutely dying to know the gender though 😆 Girl's clothes are soooo cute though. You'll be broke in no time!🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

Yeah we just couldn't handle not knowing so we found out ha. 39 wks you're just there now! Ah stop I say I'm going to blow a fortune on Christmas stuff this year for her 😂

Awh thanks @Posy! The countdown is on for sure. Depending on gender, there may be a little nod to a poster here name wise 😉 All will be revealed soon!!😁

    Morning all

Great to be back, I missed you guys. Hope all keeping well and you survived the heatwave! We had a couple of 42 degree days so spend extra time in the pool :)

Had an amazing holiday in France, first time doing the boat and campsite and was brilliant. Kids absolutely loved it and while not really a 'relaxing' holiday for the adults, seeing them having such a great time made it all worthwhile. I would highly recommend the boat as a way to travel, especially with young kids.

OH was buying new school bags and school shoes (summer sale) for the kids yesterday and we were talking about after school activities and such things so really gave me a Chrsitmasy feeling. I knew it was likely to happen once the holiday was over and is nice to turn the attention to more autumn/wintry things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Glad you had a good holiday. Don't envy you the 40+ degrees bit though, I'm far too old for those kind of conditions!! Even if it is cold beer drinking weather 😉

Been very quiet here the last few weeks so you haven't missed anything really.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday, as DvB said, you didn't miss much in here. We did quite a few boat/mobile home holidays in France when our girls were younger and I can honestly say they were fantastic times. Never had 42 degree heat though - thankfully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭jellybear

    42 degrees @TRS30, I think I'd pass out 🤣 Hottest I've been in was 38 in Rome...never again 🤣

Delighted you had a lovely holiday!🙂

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Cheers buddy, hope all keeping well your end.

The worst was the 30+ degrees during the night when trying to sleep!!

I'd say it will be quiet in here for another few weeks till the end of the summer and then start to ramp up.

Think I'm the only person who likes the 'Caramel Twirls'

Let's hope there kept on for the xmas market

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭jellybear

I think you might be 😄 Had one recently and found the caramel flavour too strong...not sweet enough or something. Now the Orange Twirl...drool!!! They are delicious 😀

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Thanks guys. Luckily majority of the time the temperature was nice mid/high 20's with a breeze so lovely to be out and about in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,012 ✭✭✭gidget

Caramel Twirl eh? Wasn’t aware of they’re existence, will have to keep an eye out for them next time I’m in a shop. Agree about the orange flavored ones, gorgeous - laughing remembering the hunt for them in shops over here when it was announced they were coming out!

I've actually got a packet of those in the car that my mam pawned off on me. Apparently they're vile 🤣 Think they'll be staying in the car till they're eventually thrown out!

Very sad this won't happen again.

Only knew of The Voice Squad from that clip but no doubt they definitely have a huge reputation around the country in the Irish traditional circles. RIP Phil Callery

    Morning all

Cool start here was 11 degrees out when I got up. Felt a bit wintery!!

Was chatting to one of the other Dad's when picking kids up from camp yesterday and conversation got round to Carlow (where he is from), I mention Rathwood and next we were talking about Santa experiences :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

    Morning all,

Best of luck @jellybear! The last few days/weeks always dragged by for me so hope you are keeping well and not climbing the walls :P

Welcome back @TRS30, glad you had a nice holiday! What campsite did you go to? I'm thinking we might do something similar next year. We haven't been abroad since 2018 between getting married, having more babies & Covid so would really like to get off this island next year!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

    Thanks CL.

This is the place where we stayed

Château de Lez-Eaux | 5 stars campsite near Mont Saint Michel

We ended up booking Eurocamp accommodation because we couldn't get one their own places for the dates we needed. While the Eurocamp accommodation was fine if I was going again I would definitely book one their own places.

We had a brilliant time and loved the whole boat & campsite type holiday however it might not be for everyone so a little weary saying you'll definitely enjoy it.

If you want anymore info etc just let me know.

    Morning all

Dull and muggy start here. Looks it is going to rain one minute and sun shining the next!

    Happy hump day!

Thanks a mil, I'll check it out! We've done the boat/campsite holiday before & loved it! Would go so far as to say we wouldn't be overly keen on plane travel with the smallies after going on the boat - was so much more relaxed than when we flew.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Exactly. I found the boat, though longer, a much less stressful way of travelling with young kids.
