    Lol.

Look what is the benefit to Russia of turning the gas up again, letting grain flow etc.

None, bar a short term cash boost, it's a return to normal.

This whole war is about turning Normal upside down.

If Europe dropped all sanctions immediately and stopped weapons supplies to the Ukraine. Started calling it West Russia, Putin still would not open up the gas or grain.

He sees this as his chance to hammer Western Europe in to the ground and he believes that Russia will emerge stronger from the chaos, eventually.

Zelensky calling for more sanctions from the EU on Russia now. Probably his gas bill has gone up 50% in less than a week as well

"Today's reports of another provoked increase in gas prices on the EU stock exchange above 2 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters-this is already a sufficient reason to expand sanctions against Russia." 🤦‍♂️

Balls lol, The EU leaned on Canada and Lithuania to play ball with the Russians when Vlad slowed the gas supply to Germany down to a trickle, and when Vlad got what he wanted he kept the tap turned off anyway, They hoped that by playing softball that Vlad would give them enough time to wean Germany off Russian gas, evidently, he's not as stupid as they are.

If they had balls they'd be sending the Ukranians the type of military support that Poland, Czechia, the US and UK are sending to put Vlad back in his box before winter.

Let the Germans freeze, they made their own bed and they were happy to sleep in it with Vlad.

    I don't disagree with you.

Most of Europe has been a reluctant supporter of Ukraine and a sneaking aid to Moscow.

Germany certainly deserve a record cold winter but for the damage it would do the rest of Europe.

Merkel will be playing with her Fabergé eggs.

From an Irish point of view, most of our winter can be best described as "chilly" if you compare to Europe. Our standard day or two of snow is hardly going to break us.

I see now Triton are doing ads on RTE player to keep your shower at a maximum of 5 mins.....I would be cutting that in half this winter

Well done Germany, shutting down all nuclear plants and will now have to rely on coal and maybe wood.

    Watch the emissions spike.

This is what you get when voting greens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,057 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

It was Merkel who worked on that.

The Greens certainly didn't mind but it wasn't at their command she did it.

Nonsense. Why didnt he do this in the last few decades he has been in power so? Hes played an absolute blinder here and hes right. If your going to sanction me and my country there will be consequences to pay and we will pay it in Europe.

Trump yet again proved right. You know the media is the enemy when a good leader like him is vilified.

Plenty of Data Centres that could be shut down before any of that. I’d rather not be able to go on Facebook or Intsa than be sitting in the cold and the dark.

What a strange way of looking at it.

Apart from billions in structural funds over the 70s/80s/90s the Germans lent us money for four years at essentially cost to allow us ease off living beyond our means. I wouldn't have like to reduce expenditure to our new tax reality overnight.

Back on topic, if Germany or any other country reliant on direct Russian supply seeks to replace that supply from Norway or some other source then the price would explode (even more)

Nah they will run on their backup Diesel UPS systems. Hear they are great for the Environment.

The Germans did not lend us money at cost, there was more than a 100% mark up on their solidarity. Basically it was about teaching the "profligate" a lesson.

Well the lesson is well remembered.

That's about 9 times the average of last few Decembers. About 525 now and rising.

German industry is going to get hammered if the costs are passed on.

The consumer end, they can't pass that on if it stays like that as year ends. Absolutely batshi7 crazy to see this.

At least we know where we stand in Europe now, that nations will support American proxy war against Russia above there own interests. Time to wake up people. Remember what Nuland said "**** the E.U".... Well we should **** America back and turn on the gas and stop sanctioning Russia.

Its a great watch all the same. Atleast zelinski is doing his bit by not washing his clothes.

Nah classic case of all eggs in one basket. Be like getting gas from NK and shocked if they decided to turn it off.

Quick glance at your other posts and you're actively justifying the invasion of Ukraine cause of vague claim "it's complex". Putin isn't coming out of this a winner, he's got a decimated military and has basically destroyed Russia's commerical and political relationships for the next decade or so.

In relation to Germany, it was always a dumb as **** move to shutdown their nuclear reactor. (It's a pretty green technology in general and far safer than coal etc) Regardless, we're all going into a hard winter and wouldn't view this as a reason to rollback sanctions etc.

That's nothing that. Take a look a France's peak power price for December. Everyone will be setting the alarm clock for 3 am to do the ironing. Saying that it might cost 20 euro a day to keep the alarm clock on if it is a plug in type.

You not still trying to tell us the ruble is on the rise? 😂

Its clear from that comment alone you don’t understand what Russia has done and what the affect long term on Russia will be.

If he played a blinder he would have kept Russian business out of it but got them to increase prices. Not shut down the gas which has ruined Russian companies reputations across the globe. So he could force all of Europe to pay in ruble so his currency would continue to rise. Instead he shut it off, europe doesn’t have to pay him as they are getting nothing and the ruble is going back in other direction

He is slowly killing his entire country and every large scale company in it. Along with killing the currency and getting loads of his people killed.

No idea how anyone could see that as “playing a blinder”

He has also managed to prove his army is fairly shite when they are struggling against a tiny Ukraine army and volunteers. Is Germany/US/British army concerned about facing Russia? The only thing is nukes but that’s us all f**ked.

No, he's saying that we already took a massive punitive hit to protect the German economy.

Their institutions lent to ours, all private deals.

Our gombeen government took on a huge portion as sovereign debt, to protect Germany. Also paid out unsecured!

Germany hammered us into much of that while loading the bailout with far higher rate than required.

So, when we get hammered, publicly, for private decisions, why do Germany get off for their public policy which they've been warned about (for decades, actually)

Yes we should support them but in the same manner they did us. They shouldn't get to pontificate, in one crisis (partially of their making), and play poor innocents in one entirely of their own.

It's **** hypocrisy, entitlement, and an attitude of superiority

Looking like a global scramble for Coal taking place now as the EU prepares it's total ban on Russian coal from 10th August. UK / Swiss mining giant Glencore just concluded one of the worlds most expensive deals.. Poland will be kicking themselves now seen as they were forced to shut 5 massive mines.
