SwatchPay Ireland

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has picked up a SwatchPay watch and if it works in Ireland. They don't seem to be listed on the Irish store but just wondering if I pick one up when I am away, would it work here.

Like having a mechanical watch face with contactless payments available. No charging required like other smart watches either.

Of all the devices to put a passive nfc chip, a watch would be last on my list.

Googled it and couldnt see any evidence its in Ireland yet.

Being able to make contactless payments on your watch is really convenient. No Irish banks have signed up to Swatch Pay yet though - https://www.swatch.com/en-gb/list-of-banks.html.

Seems to be built on the back or Curve. From what I can see the Curve app is available on the Irish app store.

I was wondering about Swatchpay in Ireland too. I downloaded the Curve app, registered with my Irish Visa card. Then downloaded the Swatchpay app, when I check the Curve card number in the Swatchpay app it says it's eligable to register :-)

I just ordered a Swatchpay watch now - will let you know how it goes once I get the watch itself.

Because i nearly have ptsd over having to look at morons rub their phones all over a card reader wondering why it isnt working whilst im standing in a queue loosing the will to live behind them.

Not super familiar with Swatch's version but Apple/Google Pay is locked the second I take the watch off my wrist. Unless the thief gets my watches passcode off me (which unless they sleep with me and see my put in this pin first thing in the morning, they're not getting it).

Also, no one is robbing Swatch watches, or any kind of smart watches, the vast majority of them have GPS and lost kill switches in them that make them useless. As a thief looking for a quick asset to cash turnaround you'd get more luck out of stealing a Casio/Seiko than a smart watch.

So the problem isn't worsened more than the current solution of tapping a phone? I never seem to get stuck behind these sorts of people. Covid really accelerated these types of payments. If this was written in March 2020 I'd say your argument would have more weight behind it.

I've no problem with it. Wouldn't be for me though. Already have cards, phone...I'm sure it would need to be connected to a phone?

Doesn’t need to be connected to a phone. You don’t need an internet connection to use a physical credit card or Google pay. The terminal does the calling home to your bank and issues an authorised/decline response.

Just feel it’s weird to dismiss a feature of a watch especially when it’s convenient and useful (especially if you exercise) which is more that can be said for most watch complications but we rarely question a chronograph or a moon phase for examples.

For me it's the fact that it doesn't need charging. Don't like the idea of having another thing plugged in beside me while I sleep. Already have to charge the phone and wireless earbuds at night.

Ordered it on UK site and delivered to Northern Ireland ;-)

The setup with the Curve and Swatchpay apps took about 5 mins.

In Swatchpay app it asks country of residence and accepted Ireland OK - all working fine with payments.
