be very careful dealing with them I ordered a laptop from them a few years ago and no show after 2 months. had to chase them for another month to get a refund. They flat out ignore you.

I see, "customize", available on the "build your own rig" models.

Only four starting at 17 large. Definitely out of my price range.

I had trouble with Lenovo too last year. I bought 2 monitors and only one was delivered. I had to leave bad reviews all over the place before they'd answer my emails. I went to Dell for a laptop after. a bit expensive but at least you have a warranty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Sugar_Rush

Yeah I got no response to e-mails from Lenovo at all.

Got on the phone and things got moving but I'll have to see how quickly they actually arrange collection and process a refund.

    TBD.

E-mails absolutely nothing doing though. Plus they put you from one provider to the next to the next, all international calls.

If you could spec the dellg15 with the 3060 and their 165hz screen I’d definitely pick it over the legion. Not possible here on their official site to spec that screen.

Have to move up the next price tied into Alienware for that. Spec options always leave you needing to jump a tier to get exactly as you want in this part of the world.

@Sugar_Rush have you looked into pc specialists and the like. Can be great value to be had there too. The build to order using clevo chassis and other brands.

    FFS

    Both deals gone.

The HP Omen in Curry's is back up to 1600 euro, the Lenovo 17 inch with 144 Hz screen is gone completely.

I'm waiting on my refund from my first Lenovo purchase to buy one or the other and now they're both MIA.

    Blows.

Hold up, the Omen 16 is still available a the discount price on currys.co.uk

I rang their customer care and apparently if anything goes wrong with it I have to return it to a northern Curry's, ROI stores won't honor UK purchased repairs.

    Guess it's an option.

Got my original faulty Lenovo Legion returned (awaiting refund) so looking to get something lined up ASAP.

HP Omen landed this afternoon (after some drama. DPD couriers suck).

What a pleasure to use after my old 2014 HP.

Resolution and graphics are just on another level.

I wanted a gaming laptop 4 years ago and I went for a Dell. I had an awful experience with laptops direct they are pure gangsters avoid like the plague. It hasn't gave me any trouble since. very powerful but a bit noisy and gets hot. I bought a cooler pad to help it keep cool and it works wonders. i7 1060 graphics great laptop. think i paid around 900. they are more expensive now though

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,538 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

might need a bit of clean out if your able to or even use a bit of compressed air to see if that helps

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Sugar_Rush

    Jebus.

Gaming laptops turn into jet-engines when you're gaming.

I often game in bed, I'm literally cooking my duvet.

One could grill steaks on this contraption.

Asked about and apparently laptop stands are a must for gaming in bed.

As to the laptop, some updates in windows 11 aside everything has been going well. Games run silky smooth on this graphics card and in comparison to the Lenovo Legion I returned which was a hefty beast, the HP Omen is light and easy-to-manage.

Provided nothing goes sideways I would say excellent purchase.

    .......

But good LAWD that jet engine sound on demanding gameplay, and the heat.

Look into msi afterburner and throttle stop for managing bottlenecks and reducing temps thereby saving your silicon.

a 1060 will struggle on high quality on the latest high quality games cyberpunk etc being one of the hardest to play

if you go on medium settings it should work better .

thing with the latest games they need more processing speed and use more power

to play top games at good quality id look at something with a decent gpu rather than just a cpu upgrade if that a pc tower of somesize or whatever

the planned 13th gen intel out later this year and nvidia 4000 when its out next year . the power usages on them are gonna go up a lot again

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭Dufflecoat Fanny

I know all that horse I have a PC for proper gaming. I was just sharing what my laptop could do and what to expect with the specs. Laptop coolers are a must anyway.

I scoured a lot of places since for deals and didn't find anything trustworthy. The best best is a top producer like Dell for warranty. My 2 cent

There are three screen choices with the Lenovo's. Avoid the 250 nit cheapest one. We have two Lenovo'sand be one with the 300 nit screen which is decent, the other with 500 nits which I specifically ordered to use in bright rooms in the house which is excellent.

The prices go up and down all the time as do the specs. I upgraded one afterwards with extra ram and more storage because the lower spec was a better deal.

I also went for the Lenovo because they have 6 USB ports. The Dell was also lot more expensive at the time.

The Lenovo power brick is massive. So you comprise a lot of portability if you want a gaming laptop. There is also a "slim" version of the Lenovo's which is lighter but less powerful if you only want "lite" gaming.

But shop around the deals change all the time as do the specs.

    500 nits on a laptop?

I couldn't find anything like that, they seem to be limited to 300.

The Lenovo specs/configurations and the deals change all the time.

The one I have with the 500nits screen was the pro at the time. It's a 16:10 ratio screen whereas the 300 nits is widescreen.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,538 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

the 16:10 165 hz 500 nit screen still on this years pro . its a very nice screen
