A lot of the posts & tweets were very much in the anti Cambridge camp. Laying blame at them for briefing against Megan & Harry. That they did it to distract from Will and his affairs and penchant for being pegged.

It's gossip, but I do think Ryanair's Social Media deserve a medal or this gem!

I saw that tweet and only ‘got it’ now. Very good.

TBF I had not yet seen those rumours.

When the hashtag popped up I had to go down that rabbit hole 😳

Also saw a sub-reddit that many here might like over at https://www.reddit.com/r/SaintMeghanMarkle

A flavour of the opinion there.

Bots and Balmpots on the cesspit that Twitter has become.

It’s a Twitter hashtag trend, a social media “clap back”. Here is the background. There have been rumours for a few years that Prince William had an affair with a friend named Rose Hanbury. An heir to the British throne having an affair is nothing new but still quite newsworthy however this was never picked up in any mainstream news. Pesky things like fact checkers coming up empty and the actual originator of the rumour, a journalist, saying he made it up was irrelevant. The rumour was latched onto by the so called Sussex Squad. No prizes for guessing who their symapthies and bias aligns with. Critical thinking and facts seem to be irrelevant to this squad of militant “sugars”. The rumour was damaging to Prince Williams reputation and since he is the antagonist in their War of the Windsors it was eagerly accepted post-truth style i.e. if you believe it is true, then facts be damned, it is true. Twitter is one of the platforms used by such people and they have persistently tried to make “fetch” happen i.e. between an army of Bot accounts and the most devoted of Sugars they swarm Twitter in order to get hashtags trending e.g. #WilliamCheated. This then shows up on peoples Twitter per the algorithim. The intent being that for indifferent people they will see this and, assuming, they are gullible and lack common sense will do a deep dive and believe the affair rumour. This tactic typically coincides with the Sussexes experiencing poor public relations via legitimate news outlets. It served as a counter offensive and is, ironically, the exact type of social media disinformation and misinformation that the Sussexes state is a humanitarian issue.

Someone, likely with a Sussex supporting agenda (i.e. a Sugar), seemingly scoured the internet. They found an anonymous account on Tumblr from 2015 suggesting that Prince William engaged in pegging while at University in the early 00’s. Again, this is a rumour but that’s irrelevant. It was sufficient to exploit it in order to embarrass Prince William in a Twitter campaign. Given how the Hanbury affair never gained significant traction then like any form of abuse there needed to be escalation. It is no coincidence that the Sussexes, a focus of a best selling and unflattering biography, have been experiencing bad PR recently. Twitter #hashtag trends such as #MeghanBulliedCharlotte or #MeghanMarkleisaLiar have been trending. It is the same tactic employed by the Sussex Squad but, importantly, it is predicated on something tangible and verifiable (i.e. a biography in the public domain). With that in mind then it was a case of engaging in a Twitter war. The Hanbury affair was now compounded by the idea that William still engages in pegging but Kate is reluctant so perhaps this is done with Rose Hanbury. It is nudge, nudge, wink, wink type gossip. The hashtag #PrinceofPegging thus gains traction via an extensive network of Bot accounts and the Sussex Squad subsequently, in their echo chambers, enjoy the schadenfreude this invented humilation brings to their antagonist. In their delusions they then actually think that because something is made up, which is not addressed directly by William then this serves as their proof that it must be true and that it idiotically lends credence to random stuff posted anonymously on the internet. The originator of the comment on Tumblr could come out and, like the journalist making up the affair, say they made it all up but that, disturbingly, would be completely irrelevant. To their mind it damages Williams reputation and that’s all that really matters. It is easy to pour scorn and laugh at the delusions but we’re living in a post-truth world where the factual truth is now completely subjective and where personal feelings trump pesky things like facts.

I actually think it's vulgar and crass.

So many people on twitter yesterday saying they didn't get that post or what is pegging?

People don't need to have that shoved in their face.

And before anyone thinks I'm beibg a prude because it's anal sex/kink, if it was a post about something vaginal, I'd say same.

It's an airline company, have some class please but we all know Ryanair will do anything for click bait.

To thine own self be true

(In)famously there was an Aston Villa goalkeeper called Stefan Postma who broke up with his English girlfriend but she then released a little video snippet where she was equipped with a strap-on for some energetic rear action.

The guy got some choice chants from the opposing team soccer crowds when the news spread so he decided soon after to return to his native Holland to try to avoid that.

Pretty much the worst position on the pitch if the crowd in that area are looking to wind up someone.

But that didn't actually work out as planned and the Dutch fans took up the mantle with gusto for the remaining 5 years and 4 clubs of his career there.

You don't really need to be a Dutch language expert to get the gist of it.

That's an understatement. How long ago was it? Surely that comes under the heading of "revenge porn". The book should be thrown at the b1tch!

Fair while ago now, long before any such legislation - never mind releasing it, she actually sold it on ebay apparently and Postma had to outbid a tabloid ffs - but that was not the end of it.

In 2005, an English ex-girlfriend of goalkeeper Postma's offered for sale on eBay a tape of their sexual activities, claiming in tabloid articles that these were bizarre and kinky.

Postma out-bid a British newspaper for the tape, and all was thought to be ended.

However, in October 2006 the tape was released on a number of Dutch websites, one of which took 40,000 hits in one hour and as a result fell over.

The clip later featured on Dutch national television news coverage, but was criticised due to its perceived hard core content.

So it ended up being reported on the equivalent of the RTE news in Holland in the end it sounds like.

Can't really imagine Sharon Ni Bheolain telling us all about Packie Bonner and his strap-on activities on "Six-One"

I don't get her logic, she was the one sporting the strap on, unless she figured it would be more embarrassing for a footballer than a scorned ex?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,387 ✭✭✭✭Sardonicat

The poor guy. That is shocking. Maybe I'm working off a national stereotype, but I would have thought the Dutch would be above sniggering at people's sexual proclivities. How could that content even be deemed as newsworthy? Absolutely awful way to be treated.

I presume that it was about money and a way to get back at him for perceived ills - definitely not a good position for a goalkeeper especially given that

    1. being stuck in a static position in relation to large crowds of thousands opposing fans who just love any chance to get at the opponents is a tricky scenario to start with
    2. football fans not exactly even today being known for being liberal in outlook and the gay connotations for a man in such a "position" which some of the chants predictably referred to.

So far more embarrassing for him basically.

Even if he wasn't a footballer tbh

Let him do a TEDTalk on revenge porn, how her actions impacted negatively on her life and say at the end “ now Ex, I hand you over the mantle of abuse and ridicule for the rest of your life - I’m done with it and now it’s your time”

Shame her publicly using 21st century words- she deserves it

I'm not sure that he'd want to bring that up again after being out of playing for pretty much 10 years.

And TED Talks are so saturated and overdone at this stage - they don't get much attention compared to what they once did

"Peggers can't be choosers" but maybe in this case they can!

    Why? Why? Why?

One has to assume that he he actually thinks he is entitlted to protection and is fighting tooth and nail to assert that entitlement. Or he is so completely under her thumb that she is pushing him into this. I dislike the narrative that she is directing him as he seems entirely capable of acting a complete tool on his own but blimey this seems ill judged. If he loses - which I think he will - this is humiliating and re enforces that they are un important and not internationally protected people. If they win the british tax payer will hate them as it will be forever paid for protection and will seem totally out of whack as William gets closer to the throne and his kids get older - and they dont even live in the UK.

Are they running out of money? He will inherit tens of millions in the next 15 years when his granny and dad pass away. Its never enough for them. Every time they do something I think this is the end......yet on they roll.

I am actually thinking the powers that be should remove their titles. They will sink into oblivion with out those titles to merch. I used to think - who cares, Duke and Dutchess of Whatever - but it is literally the singular thing that gives them any credence or caché.

I read an interesting article a couple of years ago (sorry I dont have the link), on how money inherited by the british royal family go into trusts. Thus avoiding 40% inheritence tax. These trusts are like an investment fund. Over the years as the fund makes profit, they pay tax on the profits and reap the rewards. They original inherited money stays in the fund to keep making money. Willaim and Harry's £20 million inheritence was put into a trust 25 years ago. The article writer, an economist, predicted it had at least doubled in that time, if not more.

Note, the monarch doesnt pay tax, eg the Queen didnt pay tax on inheritance from the Queen mother, Charles wont pay tax when he inherits private estates and money. Also, some titles are excempt from inheritance tax, the duke of westminister, inherited some thing like £50 billion worth of property a couple of years ago, tax bill was Zero.

Some would argue we could all do that, and yes, we could. Put the €100k granny left you into a trust, to avoid paying 33% inheritance tax on the value above the current threshold (you can inherit approx 50k from non-parent before you pay tax).

But the royals have a fleet of financial investment experts working for the Crown who can advice, set up, appoint trustees and manage these trusts. The royals just sign some documents and get on with it, the trustees and fund investors look after the rest for the life of that royal.

Harry inherited money from his mother & the Queen mother which went into trusts in the UK for his future needs.

His decision on becoming a US citizen will hinder on tax reliability in the US, I would think. As a US citizen, you have to pay tax in the US on earning abroad, even if you live abroad.

If he becomes a US resident or citizen, he may not be able to move inheritence from Prince Philip (and will do in the future from Queen and Prince Charles) into funds, like you can in Britain. This I don't know, I,m not a tax expert.

Harry is finding out that life outside the Royal crown organization is harder than expected. Paying his own security is only the start, paying for transport (cars, private jets as opposed to courtesy police Range Rovers in the UK and paid 1st class flights or government jets for ifficial duties), managing future funds on his own (with private advisors and investors, who will want a big % of any profit), paying his own taxes in the US (by hiring his own accouting firm who charge $$$), running a household with the house staff & child minders, and a team of PR people, PA's, etc.

Problem for Harry is that will be near impossible to come crawling back to the UK if life in Cali goes tits up and they go broke from living the high life, high taxes and no income. I can see them selling up in less than 10 years to move to a more tax friendly country with a more affordable lifestyle, eg. a Caribeen Island.

The Queen and the monarchy are above money. Always have been. I am always amused when people ask how rich is the Queen.

People don't realize that the monarch/crown/Queen is a state asset, that is signified/represented by a human being. The Queen (person) has no desire or use of money. The Queen/King/Crown are an employee of the state, whether they like it or not. A possession.

He's seen for the first time that the lifestyle to which he's been accustomed to comes at a cost. I'd say he got a right land having to put his hand into his own actual pocket for the first time in his life, and he could well be struggling with it, particularly if he feels they are pissing through money which they appear to be.

Whatever faults Meghan may have, to her credit she'd banked a few million from her job and side gigs so knows how to generate a decent income. He seems clueless in that regard, mooching off the taxpayer and rich parents and when that's dried up, he's suing. He must feel like a mopey millstone at times for her and I wonder how happy they really are.

They both rushed into marriage together with their own agenda. She with the assumption it would open the door to A+++ list and all the trimmings, including incredible wealth but that she would still have autonomy to do and say what she wanted and to capitalise on the connections, so she would want the deal sealed. He rushed to marriage before she could really find out what a shít-show being a royal wife is.

It's important to always note that they wanted to remain part of the monarchy albeit on terms they would find palatable. I think their primary grievance fundamentally was protection but not in the physical sense. Their complaints stem from not being shielded from every negative headline with the press office expected to clap back two fold with the whole machine of the monarchy expected to move mountains and act as their PR but in a celebrity sense i.e. the agents know their clients are arseholes but will dedicate themselves to propping up a false image for their clients benefit and have the good sense to charge well for doing so. These machinations were seen via the email exchanges with Knauf in order to control the contents of Finding Freedom i.e. lionise us, see attached "notes". In essence they wanted to have the freedom to (and expected to be helped to) control, manipulate and shape their PR narrative as they saw fit but have it done in a way which, down the line, would be beneficial to them when they would secure their financial independence bag stateside. To my mind this was their demand during the so called Sandringham Summit. The ultimate goal would always have been a return to the US and cash in on their status as influencers/celebrities/brand ambassadors but the leaking of ongoing headlines about their behaviour behind the scenes needed shoring up, needed confronting and, from their point of view, a subjective reluctance or indifference from the Palace to tackle a free press reporting likely truthful tidbits on the Royals was how the Sussexes felt unprotected. The Palace PR works exclusively to promote the working Royals as their promotion benefits and bleeds into the "other" i.e. the litany of patronages, the charities etc. Behaving as paid for Hollywood PR agents making Sussex fetch happen wasn't the job description.

There would have been doublethink involved. Think of Meghan wanting to be lionised as a feminist while, in parallel, reportedly bullying women on the staff, of being hailed as compassionate humanitarians while playing "no one asked me if I was ok" victim amongst the poorest of the poor, of being represented as eco warriors while using private jets like taxis, that they could speak about sensitive or political issues and remain officially neutral. In the end it became untenable for them to be working Royals in a traditional sense. Any celebrity, assuming they possess common sense, accepts that there will inevitably be criticism and that perpetually countering negative headlines is a futile exercise. They accept that the price of fame involves inviting some negative press and trolling. That they have been unwilling or perhaps unable to accept this reality means they have gone down the road of PR implosion. See People Magazine, traditionally pro-Sussex, literally covering Kate on Meghans birthday yesterday.

The Oprah interview was their miscalculation. It was the ultimate clap back for the palace failing to go full-on 1984 on behalf of the Sussexes. By not doing that meant to Meghan that they were clearly being racist and according to Harry it meant the suits wouldn't protect his wife just like they didn't protect his mother. The lack of invitations to move and shake means they are marked as untrustworthy. Yet the part which doesn’t make sense is that they wanted to remain part of it albeit in a part time capacity because deep down they both know that it’s their connection to that which they profess to despise is what makes them in anyway relevant or noteworthy. We saw that playing out with them going back for the Jubilee.

I have read elsewhere that there are doubts about how much she had banked from her job. After all, she isn't averse to telling lies and inventing stories to suit her narrative. 😉

It's strange that she hasn't seemed to be able to earn a whole lot since despite all the deals they are supposed to have. Harry wouldn't work to warm himself, as the saying goes, imo, so no real surprise there, despite the 'work' he talked of having to balance with minding the childer, poor chap. 😁
