Hi there, are there any older candidates out there? I'm considering a career change in my 40s and have the interview next week, I'm nervous reading all the comments that you could be left on the panel a while, time is not on my side , any other older candidates out there? Anyone do e the interview that could share how it went?

    Thanks in advance

Got the interview pack also. Mine is on Monday 4th July. Does anyone have an idea of what to wear to it? Is it formal, semi-formal or casual?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

As far as I was told dress for it like a proper formal interview.

Plenty of people in my class were in their 40's, some in their 50's. Depending on the number of people on the panel and where you place you could be in the next class or one next year. They have been consistently running a class every Jan and Sept for the past couple of years.

The interview is formal and competency-based. They'll ask you about the examples you've submitted and have you elaborated a bit. Depending on what your answers are you'll get a score. The minimum score to pass each competency is 40 or 50/100 I think. I've no idea what the marking scheme is.

They are normally quite good at getting the interview results out quickly.

Can you use new scenarios as opposed to the ones used on the application form?

  • Registered Users Posts: 63 ✭✭NeuronalJoe

Yeah, they usually ask if you want to use the one you submitted or a different one.

Anyone here starting in September that has done their medical? I've mine this day week down in Limerick. Just wanting to know what to expect! thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Comot73

Yeh I had mine last week, went through vaccination records first with the usual health questionnaire, then into nurse for hearing, eye test including colour blindness, blood pressure, bmi, urine, bloods at the end, and the part I wasn’t expecting is a Chester step test 😂

chest monitor strapped on and you do the step up and down at quickening pace until 150bpm, so wear something loose and good runners.

    Think that’s about it

    Hi Everyone

I have progressed to Interview Stage. Just been reading some previous and past posts from people who have completed the interviews. I am putting bullet points together on the Structure and Role of the NAS, Info on the actual Student Paramedic Course, Learning my scenarios that I had written on my application. Would anyone have any other tips, information or helpful pointers. Thank you all in advance.

I just wonder does any one know how long we have to wait for the interview results?? Are they going to send it by post or online??

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

I think it’s about 10 days and by post as far as I know? I had my interview today it went so quick I felt like I didn’t have enough time to say everything I had hoped to say for bonus points 😂😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 Skorpion

Congratulations, well done, so probably you'll get the place. I had my interview yesterday, but unfortunately I'm not happy 😕 I answered for all of the questions but I feel it wasn't enough

Hi all, my interview is tomorrow ,I was involved in a crash last week and my head hasn’t been in the right place to prepare for the interview, has anyone got any tips for the interview like what kinda questions they asked etc? Thanks in advance

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 MichaelTheMon

Hey is anyone here due to start in Tallaght on September 5th?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

Did they have to ask you to stop talking or did they ask additional questions specific to things you said? I felt kind of caught on one of my scenarios almost like I hadn’t gotten the information out as best as I could have but at the same time I was just firing out everything and anything I possibly could.

    How did you get on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 Skorpion

Yea, they gave me additional questions.....that waiting is horrible

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

Just received email today. We will have our interview results tomorrow 🤓

Absolutely bricking it here! I'm really bad at predicting the outcome of exams and interviews so now I just want it to be over. For anyone who gets through here, I wonder when they're looking at starting....Sept or Jan? Fingers crossed for everyone

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

I would imagine all sept places are full because when they confirm your place on the course you have to do vetting, contacts references and you have to do the medical all before starting. I’m hoping to start in January in ballinasloe 🤞🤞

    Results are out there guys

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

Got my panel number. Either I did **** or loads applied but my panel number is wild. Kinda disappointed

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 ChattyChick

Ah tinkerbell, don't be hard on yourself. This could all pan out in ways we don't expect. You could be in Ballinasloe before you know it! Your post arrives early!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

I know I’m still going to hold hope for January but definitely should be in by sept 23 regardless because they usually take 100 at a go. Best of luck to everyone else getting their panel number today!! Maybe we will all cross paths at some stage 😂

Does anyone have a rough timetable for phase 1 in college ? Talking like how many weeks in class, when ambulance placement etc starts and first exam.

I remember seeing a draft online when I was studying for interview but now can’t seem to find it.

I think the first offers are out by text and email now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 ChattyChick

Didn't see that but if you find it, would you update us?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 tinkerbell19

Offers are out I went for ballinasloe so hopefully I get a spot for sept 5th starting. I’m interested in information regarding start and end times etc in regards to college

  • Registered Users Posts: 198 ✭✭sudocremegg

It's always changing with each year but usually it's 3 months.

First week is induction, manual handling, h&s, policies, basic CPR etc.

Second week is ambulance observer placements.

Then return to the college where you will do 3 modules. Medical. Trauma. Paediatric/Obstetrics and a few other odd bits. They last 2-3 weeks each and you are examined at the end of each module, both theory exams and practical. In the middle of those 3 modules I believe they put in another observer week placement too.

Roughly 3 months. Monday to friday, 9-5. But you'll be wanting to put in more study than that. A large portion of the class will be in early, and stay late to study due to the sheer amount you will have to cram.

thanks for that info, very helpful

Hi guys, I missed this intake but want to apply for the next. Were ye given any idea of when the next intake might be? Do they recruit twice a year? Thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 ajade_2022

Hi guys. I also got the expression of interest. I don’t think we will hear anything... they’ve already given out the offers, my friend got one on the 22nd July for ballinasloe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 Skorpion

Yea, I emailed them today, and I've been told that all new post were given out. So it's pity 😕 but we have to wait until next one.

Is it only twice per year, like September and January??

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 ajade_2022

Yes next offers will be January 2023! I did expect to get a message even to say I was unsuccessful in these offers but doesn’t look like it at this stage.

Thanks for the update everyone. Actually can't believe how gutted I am. I knew it was a slim chance but we can dream, huh? Maybe I'll see you all in January.

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who made it through. I hope you have an amazing time and a long and happy career ahead.

Does anyone know if we will hear from recruitment on availability of the hotel accommodation option near the hotel or if that is still an option for September ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 ChattyChick

Well done on getting in! Can't answer your question but hope you really enjoy it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 198 ✭✭sudocremegg

Last I heard the hotel stopped doing the staff discount rate.

New recruitment for student paramedics opened yesterday on public jobs if anyone is looking to apply!
