Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying a house next to a petrol station?

    Is there any downside or risk I should consider before purchasing a house next to a petrol station? Not too worried about privacy. There is a 2-3 m long wall

    Yes contamination of the soil in the property from the potential leakage of underground fuel storage tanks, there are reports out there od houses having to be knocked as the soil beneath was contaminated from a leaking domestic home heating fuel tank, do some google searches. If it is the case it can be a massive problem costing millions potentially

    Biggest downside I can see is.

    1. Smell of petrol/diesel through the day, there is a wall but the smell must travel right?

    2. Noise of cars/vans refueling late or early in the morning you constantly have cars/vans been started. If you already live by a main road it may not bother you but it definitely would bother me.

    3. How often will you visit the deli! 😅

    Noise pollution (cars coming & going, occasional revving of engines and beeping of horns. There might also be a PA system). Possible air pollution and has been mentioned soil pollution. Light pollution, especially if it is a 24 hour forecourt.

    Possibility of traffic problems from drivers entering and exiting.

    Personally, it would want to be a really nice house for me to consider it!

    We call them cow fields here in Eire. The gas from those fields will destroy us I tells ya.

    Someone mentioned the smell of petrol. I walk past 3 or 4 busy petrol stations a day and can't smell anything tbh.
