Running a 5v, 2a device from a 5v , 1a power source. Will it work or be dangerous ?

    If the projector has only one USB port rated at 1A and not two USB ports both rated at 1A, then you're likely to have issues. The media player may pull more than 1A and the projector may not be able to supply it, either causing the voltage controller to overheat and trigger thermal isolation or causing the supply voltage to drop lower than 4.75v (5%) and the device may reset/reboot. Thermal isolation is supposed to be built into the USB supply spec (they are supposed to use a resetable thermal fuse) but I more often just see the voltage drooping instead.

    If there are two ports with both rated at 1A, then it should be fine as the supply is likely to be 2A just loosely shared.

    Thnaks for replying , There is a second USB port but its a USB mini B for fiormware upgrades only , so doubtful that it would work
