Trans activist swatted in Canada. Police say she is still a suspect

Irregular case of a reportedly noteworthy trans activist from Canada who was recently swatted by Canadian police.

according to the report the police received threats by email from someone claiming to be her, deadnaming herself etc. in the emails that she was going to go on a cisgender killing spree and had murdered her own mother. None of which turned out to be true.

She’s been released without incident since the swatting and detainment but the local police say she’s still a suspect. They aren’t sure if she cooked this up herself for publicity yet is my read of it

Trends of swatting people over petty disputes, transphobia etc are around but so are political false flags especially in small time cases (eg. Ashley Todd in 2008 carved a mirrored “B” into her own forehead and blamed it on Obama activists and was sentenced to first offense probation). Don’t know which this is yet.

I hardly ever agree with the OP but that aside no offence meant OP. In the USA for example where it started. It's like calling in a lie about your next door neighbour is holding the wife hostage and watch the chaos unfold. AT least if you sent angry threat no one could die. It's beyond stupid.

It's slang but in fairly common usage. As pointed out above it's often triggered over very petty grievances and can be lethal. Watch enough US TV cop shows and you'll nod your head!

Swatting has actively gotten people killed in the past so it's very much so news worthy. And whoever made the threats was well aware that is a real risk.

There were just two glaring problems: The email was riddled with grammatical errors and had Keffals’ deadname. You’d think Keffals wouldn’t deadname herself, but that didn’t matter to the cops. So, when Keffals was arrested by Ontario police, they booked her in the station under her deadname, which was legally changed more than a decade ago. The cops even misgendered Keffals when talking to her mom, referring to her as Ms. Sorrenti’s “son,” despite Keffals running for political office twice in Canada under her real, legal name: Clara Sorrenti.

Yeah I think you could be misled into thinking this reads as her email being hacked, but no hack is reported. Though it didn't explicitly say it wasn't her email, hence the confusion.
