What's all this giving about the Strike for? They had a worse Strike in Limerick in 2010 and they have gone from strength to strength since. Best thing that ever happened down there.

I think the Limerick strike, didn't got as bitter as that most recent strike we had in Cork. The county has moved on from that period though thankfully. The main problems in more recent years are tactically poor management, and hurlers who struggle to compete in the physical exchanges. I'm confident that Pat Ryan will do a good job though. There's no doubt that he is the best man for the job.

Cork Gaa Board getting a bit of abuse after not allowing Water Break this weekend.

A statement via Twitter read: "CCC Ciarraí have instructed referees for this weekend's games to allow for a water-break (approx. one minute) at or about the 15th minute of each half, due to very warm weather conditions."

Users on Twitter backed Kerry's decision.

One user said " Sanity prevails. Central council and other co boards follow. Ciarrai abu"

"Great call by the Kerry County board, "said another.

Whilst some weren't happy with the lack of action taken by other country boards

"Great decision. No sign of Cork GAA making an announcement. Must be too busy with the concert in Páirc Ui Chaoimh. #Priorities"

Bring back the quarters. It was better for the spectator and players. Chance to go to the bathroom or make a cup of tea. Chance for sponsors and management to coach. Bring it back

Couldn't disagree more on something. Wrecked every aspect of the game. I'd understand a token pause for bottles to be brought on in heatwave conditions but that's it.

Absolutely ruined the flow of a game. Should never come back barring exceptional circumstances

Came across this earlier, a very nice gesture in fairness.......

There have been so many touching stories of people who have reached out to the Quirke family to give them comfort since Dillon’s passing, but one that really has stuck with me is the gesture from Cork hurler Shane Kingston, who travelled up to Clonoulty to give the Quirke family back Dillon’s jersey from his final Tipperary game against Cork back in May.

The two men had marked each other in the game and traded jerseys at the final whistle, and it was a touch of real class from Kingston to travel all that way to pay his respects, and it really showed the quality of the Cork hurling family.

Cork Gaa are only in this housing scheme for the money and nothing else:

They thought it was an easy way to fill there own pockets.

On lodging the plan, CEO of Cork GAA, Kevin O’Donovan said: “This project is a key element of the financial security of Cork GAA and the ongoing stabilisation of our finances.

Fast track planning shows that they had something to hide.

Yeah they literally say they're selling the land to make money, why else would they do it? They owe money on the stadium, selling land raises money, I'm not sure what's wrong with that.

Who'd be considered the 2 surprise quarter finalists in their place? I'm guessing newtown who would i be right to say haven't figured strongly since the heyday of o'connors, pat mulcahy etc ? and maybe the barrs who weren't that strong in recent times, i know they've plenty of young lads coming through.

My God but Charleville absolutely Hammered Na Piarsaigh - totally deserving of going down.

Yeah, Charleville were close in their three group games. They're a decent team. Another season at the top will stand to them.

Na Piarsaigh have been poor all year. Might be no bad thing to go down and regroup and rebuild.

Good 4 point win for The Barrs today v Douglas.

Rockies were 6 points down halfway through the second half v Imokilh, but a very late goal has them going to ET

Imokily's first 3 were saved, Rockies score 3 from 4. Rockies into the Semi's

Barrs are playing well and looked a very balanced team. Newtown looked very fresh too- reckon the winner comes from that semi.

Happy double day everyone! Thirty two years on, and we remain the last county (and the only county since 1900) to achieve such a rare and unique feat. Four senior all Irelands in both codes since 1990, is a very poor return alright, but this county has the history, the playing numbers, and the potential, to be a force in both senior codes again in the hopefully not too distant future. In football we need to get up to division one in the league, and start beating Kerry in Munster again before we start worrying about winning all Irelands.

As for the hurling we've spent the last sixteen going on seventeen years, giving out about how rough and physical Kilkenny and Limerick are. Sports evolve and change and both senior intercounty hurling and gaelic football, have evolved and changed to huge degrees since both 2005 and 2010 respectively.

We in Cork as of the current moment in time, have failed dismally to readjust to this changing landscape. I do think we have good management teams in place now in both senior codes. In fact John Cleary should have been Conor Counihans successor as manager of the footballers.

32 years eh? I still remember jumping up and down with my Dad when Larry lifted Sam in Hill 16. I was only 6.

Italia 90 and Cork Double. I thought it was going be like that forever. Never take it for granted.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,883 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

32 years! How time has flown. Was lucky enough to be at both that year- never to be forgotten days indeed.

Was at the 4 football finals in a row - still have a special hatred for Sugrue- but the footballers win really was extra special that year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

I was only six as well. 1990 was the greatest year in my lifetime. Who knows what the future has in store, but it would want to be some year to beat 1990! Ironically enough boardroom politics and corruption, played a huge role in the demise of both Cork GAA at senior intercounty level and the FAI. I'm in no doubt though that Cork will recover and win all Irelands again, but god knows when we'll next see Ireland play in a world cup.

I would argue that considering the players we had in both panels, we possibly could and should have won a few more hurling and football all Irelands in that period from 1984 until around 1993. Mind you Tipp and Galway in hurling and Meath in football, probably feel that they could have won more all Irelands in that period of time as well.

I never get bored of watching this!

It's hard enough to win one all Ireland in the one year, never mind winning the two of them! It was a once in a hundred year event. God knows when it will be done again. As long as Cork is the county that does it, sure that's the main thing!
