Would an ID3 wagon be the perfect family EV?

There's an ID estate coming, but that's more Passat/Arteon size

I think an ID.3 estate would be great, although it's kind of more MPV sized already so you'd probably just end up with something that's basically the ID.4

I'd be in the market for that, my last 3 have been estates. There's nothing in the EV market at the moment to replace that, unless I start paying near 100k.

The Enyaq was on the list and I've been tempting more than once with the Superb hybrid but the hybrid is only really a stop gap.

Yeah it's basically an ID.4 with a different skin. I'd say it's almost more SUV sized than the ID.4 tbh

ID.3 is far from a family car. Estate or not. Unless you have a family of 4 or less.

The accepted cut-off for entry to SUV is 1600 high so yes the EV6 at 1550 is in the family car class, where as the Ioniq 5 is a mid size SUV are the ID4 and Enyak. I guess its not an exact science but you have to have a cut-off in terms of width/ height/ length to classify cars.

Im a big Estate fan and have had loads of them and much prefer this shape car to anything else - Im in what is classified as a Large SUV and would much prefer something a lot cheaper like a Octavia Combo. An ID3 estate would sell really well on the continent

I always found the ID.3 a very roomy car for its' size, even the back seat. While not as wide as some, the height of the back seat meant there was very little side intrusion from wheel arches.

I wish when I was a nipper that smaller family cars had as much space...😄

There must be at least one additional criterion as otherwise most large mpvs could be reclassified as SUVs. I would have thought SUVs should not only be tall and have large wheels but also have jacked up suspension with increased ground clearance and a more angular /bluff looking front area compared to the family car class. While the Ioniq 5 has the large wheels it doesn't appear to me to have that jacked up suspension/increased ground clearance to be considered an SUV. I'm sure it's quite subjective and in any case classifying a car as an SUV justifies the manufacturers adding a further SUV premium to the price.

I still think it would look like an electric Sharan 😉

Not saying that's a bad thing, but I don't think the ID.3 with a big booty would count as an estate

There's a lot more headroom in the ID.3 but the bench is far less wide. You can at a push have 3 adults in the back of an Ioniq as long as they're no 6 footers, but not in the ID.3. Legroom is ok in both.

I only know too well as I had an Ioniq at the time and I had put a €1000 deposit on the ID.3 going by VW's promise that the inside would be as big as a passat. It isn't. Went to the Irish invite only launch at Weston, tried the back, was disappointed about the above lie and got my deposit back soon after. Got a Tesla Model S instead 😁

The big limiting factor is not height or leg space but width. The ID3 is only about a cm wider than a Golf and so while you have more leg space because of the longer wheel span, the laws of physics dictate that there is practically no more shoulder width than that available in a Golf. Comparing it to a Passat is being slightly economical with the truth.

I would be first in line for an Id.3 estate. A bigger boot and slightly softer suspension would make it almost perfect for me.

I find the backseat huge for our needs but it’s a tour so only fits two anyway.

Up there with the Focus, Civic etc imo.

A wish they'd stop calling 4 door estates shooting brakes. They are not. But that's a cool looking estate alright.

Golf is squarer than Passat. Passat like many modern salons compromises it's interior space with a curving roof line and shoulder space suffers as a result.

A real shooting brake has 2 doors, would be nice to see then disguise the rear doors by maybe hiding the handles in the pillar
