    Tonic/soda 49c now. Practically up 100%.

Was in tesco yesterday and opted to buy kerrygold butter instead of tesco as the price difference has been eroded quite bit.

Interesting how some basic products haven't been touched. Tesco beans remains at 39c. 3 pack tuna tins still 1.99

Tell us is you notice any difference in taste or quality of the butter!

  • Registered Users Posts: 868 ✭✭✭septictank

Avonmore 1lb butter is on offer again, 2 for €5.

Nice butter, = to Kerrygold in my opinion.

Don't want to start a Lyons v Barry's type dispute.

After swearing not to go into Tesco again, I did at short notice as needed a bit of cooked chicken to add for quick pasta dinner, cooked diced chicken (Tesco) has gone from €1.59 to €2.74 in the space of about 2 weeks which is a serious jump!

Tesco own brand tonic water doubled in price from 25¢ to 49¢

They claim it's a price match with Aldi.

Aldi haven't had any own brand tonic water since first lockdown any time I've looked.

Yep, very scarce in my local Aldi's

I buy my mother at least a dozen bottles a week so I'm always looking out for it. 40¢ in Lidl

She says it's good for cramps, now I'm wondering is cramps a brand of gin 😂

Early on in the thread someone flagged to expect a jump in the price of fresh chicken - I have noticed this in the last couple of weeks.

The chicken I used to buy in Aldi for €4.69 (ish) is now €6.

the humble sausage has been touched by inflation:

These have been 2 for 4 euro for a long time.

Now a Clubcard Price 2 for 5 euro. Nice 25% increase

Was in a Tesco last week, first time in a long time. Tbh I bought a lot less than I normally would in my whizzing around the shop. Price increases really noticeable

Tesco squeezy honey up from €1.27 to €1.40. You know things are bad in Tesco when you can buy it for cheaper in M&S, it's still 1.27 there. 6 pack of crisps up 10c to €1.09. Apple strudel was €1.29 for ages, went to buy today for first time in a while and it's €2.25 so I put it back.

What really annoyed me this week was Lidl have kept vegetable oil at €1.29 and put a sign saying 3 per customer. On the other hand Tesco increased it to €1.42 with no limit. I know all the supermarkets are out to make a profit but Tesco are completely taking the piss, prices leaping literally every week more than the others and it's pure price gouging.

You know things are bad in Tesco when you can buy it for cheaper in M&S,

    Ain't that the truth.

I've reduced my tesco shopping down to their own brand cat food (because my cats love it and prefer it over the expensive stuff!) their own brand ready salted crisps, and their 1 litre bottles of lemon and lime still water, that my daughter likes.

(In other words, items for fussy eaters in my house that are not me 😏).

    Another thing...

Has anyone noticed a decline in the quality of some household cleaning items?

I used to swear by Tesco own brand lemon dishwasher tablets over even the most expensive brands. They disappeared for a month or two and came back in new packaging, but now they are useless. Not doing the job half as well.

Also, their own brand "quilted" toilet paper has gone noticeably thinner.

(Recommendations for reasonably priced dishwasher tablets welcomed.)

Are they good for roasting dishes?

Tried the Aldi ones and they weren't great either - and had a horrible smell off them!

Im really surprised how cheap vegetable and sunflower oil are here, think lidl and aldi sunflower oil is 1.49. I was in Spain and germany in recent months and its €5 a bottle there in the supermarkets.

Lidl Bbq sauce was ~79c now 99c. Aldi still have it at 79c

Have always shopped in Tesco as its a 5 min walk. But think ill have to stop. Meat ( chicken fillets and mince) has gone absolutely mental pricewise.

Does anyone notice any difference in quality for food ( fruit, meat, veg ) in lidl.

Am I allowed to mention Supervalu?

4 chicken breasts on "special offer" for 7.50!

They were on special offer for 7 euro a few months back .

6 euro not long before that. That wasn't a "special offer" though

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Supervalu is decent I get 5 off vouchers vouchers a lot if i can bothered to use them

Do ya know the way things are going I'll be growing all my own veg and having chickens rambling on the back garden the food is all so crap

Another cunning trick by Tesco. Redefine 1 Kg to be 900gm

Escape to Supervalu to find their wireless pricing labels has tomato packs suitable for use as christmas tree stands

Another newspaper comparison on some branded groceries over 6 months

Prices were checked in February with an average price €41.84 calculated across the three major supermarket retailers: SuperValu, Dunnes & Tesco. The prices were checked again in August €45.14. The basket of goods is one used by the CAI to compare prices over recent decades.

Last February 2022, the basket was 75% cheaper than in 2019.

Aldi with own-brand products replacing the branded selection above cost €22.10, +€3.43 increase since February

    Lidl’s comparable basket cost €21.87, +€1.59 increase.

    * Some products have seen quantity/volume changes since February and the August prices have been adjusted in line with these.

The stuff on that list lol, ya could hardly call it food all processed crap and continually getting crappier to eat

  • Registered Users Posts: 46,026 ✭✭✭✭muffler

So out of the 18 items listed can you tell us how many are "processed"?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,126 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Tesco plastic bag up to 99c from 70c I put €20 worth of shopping back a couple of days ago, gouging the life out of us they are.
