Engaging with Jobpath

I was made redundant due to covid affecting business. Out of work a few months and received a letter to go to Jobpath. I met with a nice guy and he asked me quite a lot of questions about my old job. I was upper management and in my job for 12 years so I was absolutely devastated to be let go. I’m still devastated. They’ve set me up with a course that starts in a few weeks but they’re making me feel a bit claustrophobic. I have to engage with them every 10ish days - sometimes in their office sometimes over the phone. I’ve told them that I wanted time to finish my course before I look for work as I need it to upskill since it’s been so long since I’ve had to look for work. I need help with my confidence too and I tell ya, these guys on at me all the time isn’t helping. Am I being too sensitive? Would love to hear if someone had same experiences.

Every 10 working days is hardly OTT.

There will be keyboard warrior along too to tell you JobPath are useless, a scam, scurrilous, etc. Take it all with a large pinch of salt.

JP are being paid to jolt you out of being on the dole for too long. If they're getting on your wick, get a job, tell them and they will leave you alone.

Keep engaging with them. I've found them very nice to deal with when I was out of work. I'm not sure how it works when you are on a course; maybe they just might want to monitor your progress so you don't fall out of the system.

They get a payout when you get a job, even if they didnt get it for you. Make sure you keep records of everything they do and say. Then when you get work, if they were not part of it, make sure you dont give them the credit. They will say you have to tell us where you are going, you must do this and that. They will try and call your company. Refuse them this info.

They assisted me to get a course on safepass, but my subsequent job had nothing to do with them. They stopped talking to me when I mentioned ALL my phone calls were recorded for my records.

You actually haven't a clue. They really are useless and from the sounds of it OP not only doesn't need their help, he is probably more qualified than the ones he is being forced to engage with.

When I was on it, I found the program to be borderline insulting, and designed not for people who were in between jobs but for those who were incapable of basic things like doing a CV, or had no professional experience. They make you fill out questionaires which seem to insinuate that the reason you are out of work isn't due to to lack of jobs, but because there must be something lacking in YOU. This was during the last recession in a small town with fk all jobs.

There was a lot of turnover with them, I had 3 different 'advisors' in 9 months. Which meant having to share personal details about my life with 3 strangers. 3 strangers who were not qualified to get me a job and had no background whatsoever in recruiting or HR. The first 2 admitted their last jobs were in retail.

The 3rd was, hilariously, a man who was on the scheme literally a week before. I can't believe this was even legal or allowed but it's typical Irish nonsense. They get bonuses for getting anyone a job. Guarantee they claimed that for hiring him, meaning the taxpayer not only paid his wages but paid the bonus (these companies got millions to perform this 'service' for the government).

Imagine going and being coached to get a job by some fella who was on the dole longer than you and was on jobpath the week before and only got a job because of a stroke being pulled.

The entire 9 months I was on it they referred me to a grand total of zero jobs. Their best efforts amounted to pulling up job ads on indeed that I'd already seen or applied to. One time I turned up the day of my father's funeral only to find my advisor hadn't turned up, because she'd quit. No one bothered to tell me, and the other person working who wasn't assigned to me tried to make me sit at a computer and job search as if I needed to come into their office to do that.

Funny enough, fellas I know of about town who have NEVER worked, ones with alcohol and substance abuse issues, have never had to deal with them. One fat Romanian lad fell asleep during the first meeting and they didnt even bother to wake him up.

So my advice would be to put on a tracksuit, don't shower or shave for a few days, put some whiskey in your breath, go in and be rude as feck and they'll likely leave you alone. They want you to engage because you seem too employable and they are after that bonus for making you a success story.

Just don't forget ! If you will a successful candidate and employer will want you! But if you will not take a job, then Jobpath will send letter to Social welfare office were your doll will be cancelled or reduced by 50 per cent for 9 weeks.

I had situation when I been offered job but had spend 35 per cent of my weekly wage for traveling to it.The employer said to Seatek ( same commercial as Jobpath) that I didn't take job what was lies,I only asked for better wage having in mind travel expenses.

All my future appointments with Seatek been cancelled at same day and letter been sent to Social welfare office about I refused take a job and my social welfare had to be cancelled or reduced.

It was terrible hit mentally,I even started think about suicide, didn't have money for anything at that time.

So I took first job I found on next day and I informed Seatek that I don't interested in them anymore and when I informed Social welfare office about I found job they asked me employer name ! Because wanted give it to Seatek ! I said that due situation happened I am not gonna give any information about my employer.

So I started getting emails and phone calls from member of Seatek which I previously was with.He was telling lies that I absolutely Must give him my employer details and that my appointments with him was cancelled temporarily.

I simply told him go away and stop telling me lies. All he wanted is get information about my employer, make it as he found job for me and get money from government for employing me.

Jobpath same as Seatek are commercial and making money for employing people.Making CV for you they trying get as much information from you to employ you asap and get money from government.

The objective is to get you off unemployment and back to work PDQ, it is not there to finance your future career development. You are effectively working for them and your job is to find a job. Having your work checked by a team lead or supervisor once every 10 days is nothing to complain about. And it should not be very difficult for you to report on either - I applied for a couple of jobs, attended a network event, caught up with some former work colleagues to see if they might have a lead etc...

welcome to the governments method of coercion towards the unemployed, remember this for future election times!

this service is not there for your benefit, but for the benefit of vested interests, including our elected officials, be very wary of their approaches, its very likely they ll destroy your self confidence during the process, this is everything how not to deal with the complexities of unemployment!

i wish you the very best of luck

Told ya the warriors will be along.

Think of JP as the government's fly in the ointment. Their only job is to annoy you off the dole. They don't need a lot of skills to do that.

If you have complex health or educational issues, see help from your doctor mental health services, or the National Learning Network. That's where the specialists are found.

again, more bullsh1t from government party supporters, its clearly obvious this approach is highly destructive towards dealing with such complexities, again, some of the most common root causes of long term unemployment are undiagnosed therefore untreated psychological disorders, in most cases you will find the persons themselves are actually completely unaware of their disorders, so how can you get help, when you are simply unaware, and if you do become aware, you ll probably find, there simply isnt much if any adequate help available!

again, you should speak to those that have had the pleasure of such services, it truly is a bullying tactic, which is truly disturbing, particular if you do manage to have any such disorders.....

Unemployment benefits are not there to support people needing support in any area but find employment. So stop redefining things to suit your agenda ti just does not fly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,252 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

the whole process of dealing with unemployment is completely fcuked, it does not try to deal with the known causes of unemployment, from complex psychological disorders, to poverty, child care issues, emotional burn out from employment, and beyond, no agenda here, just facts! if you do not try to attempt to deal with such issues, you may forget about trying to find employment for such individuals, as you d be pi$$ing against the wind!

maybe the welfare system should be radically changed in order to actually try deal with these issues, rather than trying to ridicule and shame individuals back into employment!

You can keep repeating it as often as you like, but if you have other issues that prevent you from being available for work, then unemployment benefits is not where you should be. There is absolutely no reason for someone who is fit for work and being offered work should remain on benefits.

As for the rest, what are you doing about it? Have you made your local representative aware of your views, questioned them when they come to the door, participated in protests, joined a political party and tried to get a policy proposal put forwarded, or just sat behind your computer typing away expecting someone else to do it for you.

Jobs path IS a scam. They tried to harasse me into a meeting. I'm a carer, I'm not on the Live Register. They didn't understand that not being in paid employment and being on the Live Register are different things. This is the calibre of individual who work for them.

Have someone working with me and they were a few months unemployed and had people from jobpath show up at their door telling them about jobs and asked if they applied to such and such a job which they already had but they were made to be so stupid that they needed help to apply for these jobs by someone in jobpath.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,891 ✭✭✭✭Mrs OBumble

In fairness, at the current time unless there's some significant issue, there's little excuse for being on the dole long enough to get referred to JobPath. So case managers are doing things like this because they people on the books do need that depth of input.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,891 ✭✭✭✭Mrs OBumble

All they knew is that Welfare referred them to you as someone needing help to get a job. If Welfare referred you inappropriately, your beef is with Welfare, not JobPath.

My friend had to give up her part time job during the first lockdown to care for her father in his final days. She was his carer. A few months after he died, she was referred to Jobpath. She was 61 years old at this stage. Like others have said, she had numerous handlers and was expected to share personal information with each. We were out for a socially distanced walk one day when she got a call from another new handler. The conversation went something like this.

“Tell me, Mary, what efforts you made to gain employment since we last contacted you?”

”In the name of Jazus, do you not know that we’re in the middle of a pandemic”

”You must still do everything in your power to apply for jobs. I have one here that might suit. It will provide on the job training”

    ”Ok. Sounds interesting”

She went on to describe a job as a cook in a nursing home over 20 miles away, gushing about the training that would see her (a woman who would burn water) a fully qualified cook, just in time to join me on the pension!

“Do you have a stable home?”

    ” I don’t need one. I don’t have a horse”.

Mary then got a lecture about how her attitude would deter prospective employers.

Yes, they have a job to do, but belittling their clients says more about them than those they are supposed to be helping.

Mary got a nice office job not long afterwards and it should see her through to retirement.

They were unemployed for two months. Not that long at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,387 ✭✭✭✭Sardonicat

Actually, they knew the exact opposite. They were provided with evidence I was not on the Live Register anymore and did not need help finding a job because I was now rather busy providing full time care to a relative left disabled and brain damaged after a stroke. They persisted in tormenting me and trying to insist I attend meetings. The only people on welfare referred to them are people on Jobseekers benefit or allowance. People not on the Live Register are not referred and if you are no longer on it you are under no compunction to engage with them in any way. They tried to insist I was. As I said, they did not know that someone on Carer's Allowance is not on the Live Register. I would have thought knowing who falls into your client base and who doesn't is fairly fundamental knowledge for the "work" they do.
