electric bike with throttle?

looking for recommendations for an electric bike that requires minimum pedaling, been cycling all my life and currently have a pedal assist EB but I'm having a lot of hip problems lately when I cycle. I'm driving to work a lot lately but the traffic is a killer, would much prefer to go back to the bike so was looking to change to something that requires less pedaling.

would appreciate any advice.

I've noticed a few around town lately, they just pull away at the traffic lights without any pedaling involved.

they have pedals and a chain and look just like a normal bike.

at the moment, they're considered mopeds and in practice can't be used legally on the roads, but there's effectively no enforcement of that. that's due to be changed in an upcoming law though, which will legislate for e-scooters and (i think) e-bikes with throttle control.

That's nuts. Why bother getting a license?

Dublin bikes is a great thing, but some of them cycling should come with a warning hazard sign.

Also be aware that anything which can exceed 25km/h will be a moped under the new law and will need an AM licence or a B issued before Oct 2006.

Most of the people I see on my commute have conversions on "normal" bikes - there's a couple of places around Dublin that do kits and/ or fitting. You can obviously pick up the parts and convert yourself (I've looked into it, but not enough to be confident enough to pull the trigger yet). The thinking is that throttle ebikes will come under PPT's like scooters, but that isn't confirmed (just makes sense), up to the same limits as scooters.

Could the hip issues be a bike fit issue?

dont know to be honest, I've cycled all kinds of bikes for years without any issues, it's only in the last 18 months or so that the hips are giving me gip, reckon it's just age catching up.

Are there any decent kits to convert a hybrid bike. We have decent bikes and it seems a pity to buy a whole new bike.
