Anyone know any provider in Ireland (North or South) I can ask to give me a quote for a Glass box window? Something looking like this image. I'm struggling to find someone.

Try [snip] top class work for a bespoke front door off them last year

Mod Note: Recommendations by PM only. Thanks.

Many specialist glazing companies would be able to make up glazing (a window) like that.

Hi Docarch, unfortunately, many glazing companies are not able to make a window like this. So far after pretty intensive research, i've only found two in the whole country. However, if you know of more, please let me know their names.

Aside from the ledge/build out to the bottom of the window is sitting on (which would be builders work), pretty much all that window consists of is 4 double/triple glazed units stuck together with silicone and glazing tape.

Maybe google 'glaziers' and ask a few.

That's ok! 😉 The forum charter precludes naming specific companies.

Unfortunately, I've already rang quite a few glazing specialists, and it is too complicated for all of them except for two providers.

Perhaps you don't appreciate the complexity of making a window like this which can stand up to the elements and see through a guarantee period. For example the top pane needs to keep the rain out whilst also not building up condensation on the underside, the entire unit needs to keep its structure, the joins need to keep its pigment, etc.

Can’t help with suppliers but I’m curious to know roughly what kind of cost you’ve been given for this

OP if you haven't found anyone yet let us know and I'll check with a neighbor who had similar windows but even more complicated for their new build. I know they had lots of problems getting them made but I can find out the company that did if you need.

Note the flat top is a dreadful design as it holds water and gets dirty.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Agreed. I wonder how the flashing detail works there as you're dealing with a small amount of standing water.

Flashing detail is all important! I know the neighbors had a leak as a result of it not being done quite right. The fix was quite easy as it was a problem with the way some part or other had been installed but it took the builder ages to get back and sort it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Try architects OP rather than glazers - especially those who have specialised in quality modern builds and one off designs- they’ll have their contacts- it looks like the sort of thing a German or Danish company would provide?

They might be willing to provide a direct contact or even advise on a design which might help you anticipate unforeseen challenges

That would be great if you could find out the company that did it? Thanks

Of note, the two quotes I got so far both were with a very slight slope on the top, so they shouldn't hold water if done correctly. Still probably will get dirty though.

Your suggesting an architect doesn’t appreciate the complexity?

may I ask, did you provide detailed drawing of structure and glazing setouts, and weathering details when seeking quotes?

suggest you are looking for something that’s no standard. as per photo provided by others above, structure may be builders work and separate timing/cost, but all needs to be coordinated with drawings etc.

Not sure if getting detailed drawings would be a good use of funds. Think those funds would be better used for getting a higher spec window or more reputable provider. The drawings may even cause a problem, as you're asking the architect to do drawings for something they may never have done work on before. They then may for example draw a flat top. Whilst better design is with a slight slope. The provider may then build to this detailed drawing and then when it causes problems point to that they were following the detailed drawing which they were told to follow.

Another example - I was chatting to my local glazer who says he is not able to make this window, but told me that the pigment for these tend to be done in two different ways, the more long lasting way is with a ceramic frit. Now, the architect may or may not know this type of detail. But it seems better to push the responsibility for the details on to the provider by pushing for the longest and most comprehensive guarantee/warranty I can get.

The providers can build to the Ope which they will measure so don't need any drawings.

Yes, you are right, this is non standard. That is why I still have only managed to get 2 quotes.
