Can you clarify - from ROI you'll be able to access iPlayer through Sky?

My understanding is that Sky Glass will have a limited version off BBC iplayer when it launches in Ireland. How good or bad it will be I have no idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

Yes my understanding is it’s replay TV for up to 30 days. As opposed to iPlayer. If Sky can negotiate this why can’t Virgin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

The rebrand of Syfy which happened on Tuesday, to Sky Sci-Fi, the logos have been updated on 360 boxes. However the channel names are stil SyFy HD (129) and Syfy (729)

Also, according to the VM website https://www.virginmedia.ie/bundles/broadband-tv-phone/500mb-broadband-bigger-tv-360/ - Sky Crime HD is available on the Bigger Pack in the TV drop down option for HD channels. It's not on my 360 box 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Yes Virgin Media Ireland only have Sky Crime in SD. They need to step things up and replace more SD channels with HD offering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Customers will be able to watch as much sport as they like with the addition of Sky Sports F1, BT Sport 1, 2, and 3, BT Sport ESPN, Premier Sports 1 and 2 (subject to appropriate subscription).

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

They didn’t get the memo about BT Sport ESPN being no more as of yesterday so! Good to see these channels back on VM after a very long absence (July 2016 IIRC).

Thank god. Sky Sports F1 and the BT Sports channels, finally I can do away with Now TV and don't have to hide social media and goal notifications to avoid being spoled

Edit: Got the channels already. All working as expected, as mentioned above BT Sports ESPN is now BT Sport 4 despite the EPG still having the old name/logo. 440 for Sky F1 then 442 to 447 for the others. As I've noticed using Now TV, the Premier Sports channels quality isn't as good as the BT channels despite them all being HD guess that problem is just at source

Edit 2: One more thing in case anyone is wondering, the BT Sport/Premier Sport channels are available for streaming in the Virgin TV app which is handy

I know Virgin have a thing of clinging on to old names (BBC News 24, hello from 2008!) but launching a new channel (or at least, a returning channel onto the EPG after a six year absence) with an old name is just plain lazy. Is there some issue with Virgin’s EPG that stops them renaming channels? I remember they used to have to do a workaround with a dummy channel up in the 800s to keep access to recordings but is that still an issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Brewery and Piss Up spring to mind once again in relation to the 360 EPG

Putting SS F1 HD on 440 when 410 was free and starting the BT Sport channels on 442 rather than 441-444. VM UK have the exact same Sky Sports sequence as Sky's EPG (Main Event to Mix 1 to 10) with SS Racing further down the EPG https://virgintvgo.virginmedia.com/en/tv/tv-guide.html. Also SS Racing is stil only available in SD. SS Golf stil has the Masters logo ever since I got the box last year

Even RTE News which rebranded from RTE News Now back in August 2020 is stil mislabeled along with BBC World News since day dot

Sky History and Sky History 2 are also mislabelled and wrong logos

MTV, MTV Hits and MTV Music are out of date logos and numberous radio channels have no logos

Anyone who signed up to the BT Sport channels in HD getting periodic drop outs of picture?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Having trouble syncing the sound to my TV, got my boxes today and set it all up and everything is working bar the volume buttons, if I want to turn the volume up or down I need the TV remote, anyone no how I can sync the sound so I can just use the one remote?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

    Found this info on https://www.virginmedia.ie/virgintv360support/installation-and-setup/

"If this fails or you need to pair the remote with a different TV set you can pair them at any time by holding down the “TV” ( to the right of the Home button) and “0” buttons for 10 seconds. The light on the front panel will flash and the remote should now be paired with the Virgin TV 360 box and TV"

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Yeah I've done this and it hasn't worked, funny thing is it's working on one TV, but the other two aren't for some reason, I called and they sent out two new remotes but I don't think the remote is the problem because I tried pairing a spare remote that they sent me and it didn't work either.

This happened to me before and there was a way of pairing volume to the TV but for some reason nothing works now.

I’ve noticed today that two new apps have been added to the Virgin TV 360 Box, a web based version of the Virgin Media Player and a France 24 app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭Doomofman

Just following up on this for any else seeing this issue. It appears to be with Virgin's feeds of these channels. Watching the Liverpool game on https://www.virginmediatv.ie/ today and seeing the same picture drop outs I was seeing on my 360 box. I've reported this to Virgin but knowing how little they care about their TV service, I'm not holding my breath it'll be fixed any time soon

Trying to figure out the wiring setup for the multiroom mini box. From what I understand it needs a cable to the virgin wall socket.

Is it possible to have both the main box and the mini box connected to the same wall socket?? If so, how? Some type of adapter? Or is a separate wall socket required?

The 2 TVs I have are either side of a wall. I have a Virgin wall socket on one side and was thinking of drilling a hole between. Any other suggestions? Really wish the whole system was wireless!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Ring Virgin and get a Tech out. Ideally every box should have it's own wall socket (outlet box).

Wireless is on the way eventually, in 6 months or 3 years etc. - anybody's guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

Don't they provide a splitter for this set-up? Sky Q is much better in this regard, the limited functionality of the VM mini box steered me towards Q in the end.

What limited functionality other than wireless capability and small buffer for live pause(wireless boxes are being tested currently)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

The lack of proper live pause and rewind on the VM mini box wouldn't work in my house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Recording everything (not ideal I know) you want to watch on a mini box is a workaround for proper pause and no problem with rewind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭Doomofman

Anyone know what new channel was added (or maybe moved) on 360 today I notice 210 is on a new page compared to yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭AJB39

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭Doomofman

Yeah it's odd, I went through them and couldn't spot anything new but 210 and 211 have gone from being on different pages to the same page. Maybe they just moved something slightly

Yeah trying to ring them but difficult to get 30-40min window to wait on hold. Anyone know a good time to call when they're less busy/understaffed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

It could be that 116 is now back on the EPG, after VM Four launched late last month on 110, the old VM Sport slot is now VM One +1 on 116

Just noticed that Sky Sci-Fi HD (129) & SD (729) are now viewable with the basic Big subscription. A Bigger sub was previously needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭Doomofman

Anyone with the Sky Sports or BT Sports, I don't suppose you've started getting a random black screen a little while after switching to one of these channels? Only this weekend I've noticed it, 45 seconds after I change to one of these channels it'll go black for a second, even happens on the SD version of the Sky Sports channels. Doesn't seem to affect any of the regular channels (like RTE or VM channels etc)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Yes exactly the same happened for me so it was a general issue. Think it's fixed now.

Has anyone figured out what the new shield icon (🛡️) means in the recording list?

Would anyone know if the TV360 box is the standard replacement box currently or do they replace like-for-like ? I have an Horizon box and the disk drive is acting up, pause/rewind is throwing errors increasingly. I'd prefer something more up-to-date than another Horizon box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Yes they operate like-for-like. You could just ring and upgrade for 360 and they could send out by courier. Might be a few more euro a month not sure and you must have Virgin broadband.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,668 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Wondering if these are actually available here yet and at what price... mentioned in earlier posts VM are testing not needing coax, runs over wireless?

I see CNN has returned to Virgin Media 360 on channel 205 with Replay TV. Also Sky Documentary HD is now on channel 122 with Sky Nature SD on channel 730 and Sky Documentary SD on channel 731 all with Replay TV. Still no BBC 3 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Thanks. I presume it's CNN SD, like before it was removed?

Also, why are channels launching in the 700's, that's for SD variants of HD channels?? There's now 3 channels in that genre, W / Sky Crime / Sky Nature with no HD version in the 100's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭AJB39

It looks like CNN SD to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

I wonder is it purely a financial reason that Virgin Media Ireland keep going with SD and not HD. I can't see bandwidth being an issue. Great to have CNN back and with replay function but no HD in 2022.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

It is back on Horizon/Mediaboxes too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭kitsy13

    CNN looks HD tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Yes CNN must be HD now. The text etc. looks so much clearer to when it last went off our Virgin Media Ireland Tv screens.

It is on my Horizon box but it is not on my HD media box. Either are the two other channels.

All 4 have started to add HD content during the week. I found the content through search and not in the All 4 app. Maybe its different on the 360 boxes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭Delta2113

It's possible your HD media box is not on the correct subscription package that you have on the Horizon box. You would need to ring them and hopefully get an agent knowledgeable. In fact twitter is probably a better option if you have it to reach out to them and get it sorted.

I might be wrong but it's definitely a possibility.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Bodan

I have every non premium channel (sports, movies) , just not the 3 new channels. I did a factory reset in case my box missed the cue to add the new streams but it didn't change anything.

I am going to ring them up to see what they say as i cant think of a reason why the HD media box wouldn't be supported .

According to the Autumn eNews email

New channels have arrived on Virgin Media Television! Uncover the story behind the story with Sky Documentaries on Virgin TV 122, get closer to the nature with Sky Nature on Virgin TV 730 and find the latest breaking news with CNN on Virgin TV 205, just sit back and enjoy!

This must be the first time they have actually advertised channel launches which is good news. Although above the text has the 3 channel logos, Sky Docs is the only one with a HD logo. Are we 100% sure CNN is in HD? To check, press the info button on a live programme and at the very bottom the Quality will say SD or HD beside Subtitles/Audio/Country

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭kitsy13

In the info on the 360 box it says SD but it's definitely HD..cnn is probably one of my most watched channels over the years and you notice it straight away when you put it on..a huge difference from the previous cnn from before they withdrew to do their own failed subscription app thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Thanks for that. It's labelled CNN too, rather than CNN HD on the 360 box. God, can VM get anything right

is Disney+ available on Virgin TV360 in Ireland? Conflicting info from googling.

No it’s not. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube are available on Virgin TV360.

    Thanks.

I thought so. Virgin media ireland and Disney+ Keywords in google indicates yes but I had a feeling it was just feeding me Virgin UK search results regardless.
