I’ve seen Arcade Fire many times, never been to 3 Arena, but have heard good things.

Can anyone comment on bar? Do they sell Prosecco?

Trying to figure out what to drink beforehand (am too old to mix!) and pints not a great option at a gig.

    Cheers!

Won’t be shocked if this show is cancelled

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

    Really? Care to elaborate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

    Just googled. Wow.

“In his statement, Butler responds: “I googled her and knew that she was 18”

“Butler offered to put Pitchfork in contact with different women who had consensual sexual experiences with him in the past”

stand out in his PR crisis firm statement.

They are struggling to sell out both nights anyway.

Bad time of year, people have their summer gig or festival money spent, most have seen them plenty times before last album not capturing the imagination. Plus the fact that anyone who would normally have stayed the night in dublin are priced totally out of it and not bothering, wouldnt be the only gig suffering from that at the minute.

The top tier will be curtailed off on the 31st and lots of good seats still on sale as well as standing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

I’m not sure what to make of those allegations. They make him sound like a dick, but he always seemed like a bit of a dick to be honest. However I don’t know if they warrant publication and the ton of **** that will presumably come down on him now.

Anyway I’m due to be going to the concert this week and I’m not really that excited to so I’d be kind of happy if it got cancelled, but I doubt it will. The promoter seems to have been over optimistic when booking two nights, they played one night in the 3Arena on their last tour and I don’t think they’re any more popular now, probably less so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

I’m hoping they cancel too. Been a huge fan for years, no interest in seeing them now.

I héard a snippet of win chatting with Brendan from radio 1 and they said they'll have at least one special guest on the 2nd day, could be just a pr stunt to push tickets.

Ah sure their special guest probably be Damien Dempsey or Glen Hansard/Damien Rice or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Shank Williams

Thought this stuff had been out about him for years? Always came across as a bit of a dick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Shank Williams

At least 1 of those guys has his own win style skeletons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,005 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

Skeletons implys that we don't know Hansard and Rice are massive f*cking creeps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

    God, that’s so depressing.

Anybody want 2 tickets for Wed night?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 324 ✭✭spindex

    I'll take 1 if it's free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,729 ✭✭✭fluke

Somewhat looking forward to Tuesday's gig, but really it's at a pretty busy time for me...the latest album and the Win stuff is not exactly encouraging stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭Zarkandar

Anybody know if Feist is doing her full Multitudes set for the support or just a mix of old and new stuff?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 grey99

Where can I find the stage times?? No interest in seeing the support act

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭RolandGoose

They'll most likely be released on the promoters social media channels a few hours before.

I considered going to this until I seen the prices... Nearly 90e a pop!... Ridiculous!

you'll get a ticket for 30 or 40 euro tomorrow on adverts or toutless if still interested.

Not sure how I feel about going now. I know it could be deemed as not being illegal, but it feels cringy as hell to utilise the power and position over much younger people in that way. I always thought he was an eccentric genius but now it throws a different light on it. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to see them in Manchester this weekend (didn't want to have to take 2 days off work for midweek gig, plus flights + hotel in Manchester still less than a hotel in Dublin) and I'm a bit conflicted yet will still go see them - probably due to cost incurred really more than anything - might be selfish but there you go!

I also think it's the last time we will see them on stage together.

Will be interesting to hear how they are tonight.. to be honest, the quotes from Win and Regine in Pitchfork practically read like "ah shur, we all have bad times, and make mistakes" and it's all a bit grim - the money-making machine in full effect!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,197 ✭✭✭✭Basq

You been to an arena gig lately? That's standard!

The other thing about tonight is that I cannot but think that the atmosphere will be at best "weird". The new Album sounds different now with this backstory and also the relationship with Regine on stage will be strange. Would love to be able to sell them on, but no chance at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭flasher0030

It is for any of the well established acts. I can only speak for the ones I was at or know off. Eddie Vedders has been €100 a pop - that's going back a number of years. Radioheads was €90 (I think), or very close to it anyway. Justin Bieber is €125 standing (when you throw in the fees). Crazy stuff. David Chapelle is €100 a ticket. James Taylor - €120. Kendrick Lemar - €130. I'm sure Bob Dylan and Robbie Williams are around the tonne mark as well .

Was at the last gig in the 3 and it was absolutely unbelievable. Linger into Wake up was epic as was the exit with the brass band through the crowd but the new album made my mind up. Found it dreadful so didn't bother getting tickets for this one. Found it very poor tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,729 ✭✭✭fluke

I think you're dead on about tonight's gig. If it wasn't someone so central to the band, perhaps I could look forward to tonight's gig more. Coupled with that a lot of their music is so earnest, and hand on heart, that all feels a little flat now.

It has sort of meant I'm going to the gig with a 'let's just get this over with' attitude.

I'm still really looking forward to it.. Was at their last two gigs in The Point and thought they were amazing. Think the new album is their best since The Suburbs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭flasher0030

That sounds a bit over the top. I’m pretty confident that if every member of a famous music group (in particular the lead singer) were to take a lie detector test to identify if they have had a quickie on the side with a groupie, I’d say the machine would explode. Way too many temptations over time to keep saying no. If it were a minor, then definitely string him up. But it seems these ladies were all 18 and over. He did nothing wrong legally wise. He took the chance to have a fling outside of marriage. He’s caught now and it is out in the open and his wife and son know. Up to the wife if she gives him a second chance. Nothing to do with me anyway. I hope to head along tomorrow night if I get a cheap ticket, and will look forward to it.

I read alright that there is an allegation that he did something untoward with another person, who is described as gender-fluid!!! Which I understand is someone that doesn’t know if they are a man or a woman!!!  I’ll be taking that with a pinch of salt…..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭Sheog

I’m still definitely going tonight. Their last gig the the point was an epic gig. Really enjoyed it. I think it might make for a strange atmosphere alright though.

can’t wait to see Feist as she hasn’t played in Ireland in a long time. Any sight of the stage times yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,729 ✭✭✭fluke

I get what you're saying and the lie detector thing, is probably true to some degree.

If this were some hard rock band, I would just go and headbang, but Arcade Fire have this virtuous aura. Anyhow hopefully the songs will carry the night through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭boccy23

Agree re not being naïve, thing for me is that I think it will be a very strange atmosphere and have to decide do I want to be a part of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

Twitter indication there may be some form of protest by unhappy fans tonight.

I don’t believe they should cancel the tour, recent allegations don’t affect all opinions - plenty of people still want to see them. I get that, they’re phenomenal live.

I just cant muster any enthusiasm, especially after reading his & his wife’s statements on Pitchfork. I feel a refund should be an option for people like me.

Make sure you request your refund from TM in writing NOW, before the gig, to strengthen your position in any claim you make afterwards. You could try a 'not fit for purpose' claim through the Small Claims Court afterwards. It might be a stretch, and you might be making legal precedents, but if you feel strongly, it's worth a shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭New2Dubs

Thanks, I requested a refund via TM yday & was given a standard fob off. The promoter not interested either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

    Any word of stage times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

Part of me is kind of interested to go see if things kick off. But overall I’m not too keen to spend my evening in a tense or sullen atmosphere

This is it. The big appeal of an Arcade Fire show is how it feels. It's gonna feel weird for people tonight, I have to think, and I really don't think they'll ever get the magic back, for me at least.

I was already wondering how odd it was going to be to see them without Will for the first time, when he's such a huge feature of their live performances. I have to wonder now if the reason he left when he did was over this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,718 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

No, it really isn't. They will tell you to PFO.

Jesus wept lads, we're talking about musicians, huge performers and entertainers who have had to put up with the good and the bad of the spotlight of fame as well as the every day pressures and challenges of life that we all have.

Could you imagine the reaction if you were a fan back in the day and you said, 'oh no, I don't think I want to go and see them now because of all the talk of extra-maritals' in relation to Abba or Fleetwood Mac or Blondie or No Doubt? You'd be looked at like you were mental.

Just go and enjoy the great music from one of the best live bands of today and leave your judgement in ignorance at the door.

one song in and nobody will care is how I imagine the atmosphere will be

Hasn't been 1978 for ages, I'm afraid. It's no longer kosher for married middle aged dads to send dick pics to girls who only just qualified to buy all their own cinema tickets and might as well be doing the Leaving Cert.

    Things change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,282 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

It might well be in the interests of the promoters to NOT have a precedent set in the Small Claims Court, so there's a good chance they'll issue a refund rather than letting a case go to court.

But my heart bleeds for the tough times these super-wealthy performers had to endure, maybe we should send them a 'get well soon' card from all at Boards just in case?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,718 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

They do certainly, but or course we only have Pitchfork's version of the story, a site with a history of a bizarrely hostile attitude towards Arcade Fire.

Suppose we wait and see if there are any actual charges that come out of this and stop acting like judge, jury and executioner, with no knowledge or evidence.

If you have a ticket for the show you're not using, I'll happily take it off your hands for free, but only if its for tomorrow night, I'm not free this evening.

Anybody have the stage times, can't find it anywhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 grey99

I'm still going but feeling a bit funny about it. On one hand I'm looking forward to the music, but I think the atmosphere might be weird. I wonder if there will be any booing or heckling. Feel like people might judge me for liking this band now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

They do certainly, but or course we only have Pitchfork's version of the story, a site with a history of a bizarrely hostile attitude towards Arcade Fire.

It is not much of an exaggeration to say Pitchfork and Arcade Fire made each other, and it is absurd to suggest Pitchfork went to print with a story like this, about one of the biggest touring bands in North America, out of some kind of spite, or without working to make sure they were on solid footing.

Suppose we wait and see if there are any actual charges that come out of this and stop acting like judge, jury and executioner, with no knowledge or evidence.

The law does not decide what I think is right or wrong, it decides what meets the necessarily high standard for state action.

I don't care if it's a crime for a forty year old with a kid to try to solicit sex from a teenager and then invoke the miscarriage his wife suffered in his "apology", or not. I already know I'm not cool with it, and I know the kind of show Arcade Fire stage isn't going to feel the same to me knowing that of the guy leading it. It is not some impossibly high falutin' standard.

7:30 for Feist. Am guessing 8:45-9 for AF.
