    MJF as the Joker?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,004 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Nah, if he's returning at All Out, I'd imagine it's part of the Punk Mox match.

I could see a returning Lance Archer as it. Not sure if he's done in Japan yet, but if he is, good spot for him to return to.

Savage promos from Mox and Punk, I felt. Salvaged the weird build up. Does feel like it’s building up to a “cheat to win” Punk turn though.

im sure the PPV will be a banger. They usually are. But I feel there’s a few feuds which desperately need to be freaked up. There feels like a LOT of spinning wheels right now.

Decent show last night, was Don Callis teasing a turn or playing mind games the way he was talking up Will Osprey? Either way, the main event was fun. With the Dark Order injuries angle, it suggests that with Hangman's help, they might go over Best Friends leaving an Elite v Dark Order face-off. BTE was all about the Bucks telling Kenny there was no one else on their list, so added drama :)

Big Cass making an appearance was interesting, and as always, the Wingmen played their part so well. We saw a pretty fired-up Stokeley and with the numbers he's getting on his side, it feels like they're building to them as one half of a Wargames feud when the time comes.

The Punk/Mox stuff was pretty good. I was wondering why they were pointing out that Ace guy last week when Punk was being helped from the ring.

The JAS/BCC was grand, Hager and Danielson had a good enough match.

Women's tag match was good, I liked the spot where Storm hit her arse attack and then slunk through the ropes to deliver a powerbomb (or something similar) to the floor from the ring.

Looking forward to All Out now.

Bobby Fish is apparently not renewing/not being renewed when his contract expires.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,171 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

That's what he gets for giving Triple H glowing praise.

In reality, he's 45 and was only brought in to do bootleg Undisputed Era. With Cole on the shelf, that's not happening.

He gets injured a lot. That's not going to improve as he gets older.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭ThePott

Good promos in the Punk segments but I'm sorry for me the story is still totally ass.

Punk was injured last week and now after a fired up speech he's good to go because he forgot who he was? What is this?

It feels like something that should happen over the course of weeks, not a week. I still don't understand the point of last weeks' match storyline wise. They're pushing CM Punk as some sort of underdog... in Chicago. Hell half his promo was about the place.

I just do not understand, I'm open to understanding and want to like this but I do not get why this was the approach. Even if he turns heel and that's the realisation he's come to it's still weirdly convoluted and uninteresting to me.

Reckon Joe is the Joker. For me right now the Trios is the match to be excited for at All Out and a few other matches that haven't got the same level of look-in like Starks/Hobbs and curious to see who wins the women's title and if it leads to changes in how they're presented and JB vs Christian Cage. 14 matches is a crazy amount though for what feels like a for this card too given some of the builds.

I didn't like that whole thing of Moxley leaving the contract in the ring like that. As with a lot of open challenges for titles, why didn't anyone come out? Like we have that Casino ladder match at All Out for a title shot. Why didn't one of those guys come out for the contract? Just didn't make sense.

Wonder why all the cards weren't animated when they were going through them.

So who all has Stokely recruited/tried to recruit?

Hope the Joker is a return and not another new person.

It's a rehash of the Adam Page stuff. Lose belief in self/pep talk/rise up.

Except Adam Page is likeable so it worked. CM Punk is a twat so it doesn't.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭ThePott

The problem is though that the Adam Page stuff was played out in a long time and genuinely well done (even if I feel they pulled the trigger after it peaked) but the self doubt stuff here began like this week and now seemingly has ended. Adam Page was a more believable underdog from the beginning of AEW, Punk has never been presented as that.

Heard a lot of people suggest that Stokely is scouting for ROH talent. Unless they have a deal or somewhere to put this roster though I have no interest.

In regards Punk, it is a case of hubris. He was confident he could come back and claim the title, and he was severely mistaken. There was talk about a rematch and he was unsure as to weather he could up his game for it.

Storyline wise he has been taken to the limit by Darby on return then MJF and Kingston. So the ring rust storyline was always there, then he proved everyone wrong by winning the title, gets injured, they replace him, he goes for the title and gets dominated.

Now Mox is going in thinking he has the upper hand and Punk will put it up to him, and prove himself worthy again in his own eyes.....or not sending into further disarray

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭ThePott

I can see what you're saying and you have some good points but I just don't see it represented in the programming.

Punk was far from mistaken, he lost once to MJF and it wasn't a clean win. He should be confident, he's been taken to the limit sure but he's never come up short by losing clean. He's hung with veterans and the new kids on the block since he came back without any real issue.

Now if the over-confidence lead to him thinking he could show up before he was ready and beat Moxley, fine. If that was the case though, why would you go into a rematch a week later? If Moxley really had his number doing an injury angle doesn't make sense, as Punk wouldn't be doubting his ability, he'd have the excuse of an injury to blame it on which is a totally reasonable excuse (albeit normally leaned on by heels to an excessive degree) it's hubris before but shouldn't have anything to do with him doubting himself. My point being that Punk doubting himself because he lost, when injured isn't believable when it was only brought up last week and nothing has changed in that week except he got a pep talk to, 'remind himself who he is'. It's why I say the only way this works is if Punk becomes heel, then it would make sense for him to go straight for the rematch, cause he knows he can't beat Mox with honour if he wants to be champ.

Good to see Morrissey there. I thought he had a great turnaround after his problems and did well in Impact. Will see what they do with him now.

Great main event, need that Omega/Ospreay singles match. Like how the Mox/Punk stuff has gone down, something different.

Looking forward to All Out, I think it will be similar to Forbidden Door, people were really down on the build and not that willing to give it a chance and it turned out to be one of the best shows of the year. The numbers held over a million and the rating up for this episode so maybe the main event build worked!

Another attack after last night's Dynamite

So yeah, think the Omega Vs Ospreay will be happening

I said at the time it was a stupid signing. A 45 year old that's constantly injured. At least it was only a 1 year deal. Really hope it's the start of having Cole go on his own without a faction. I didn't like Undisputed era in NXT (except for Cole) and never wanted it in AEW. I really think Cole could be a great babyface.

Shocked by the Morrissey appearance. Thought HHH would definitely bring him back to WWE.

There is a rumour going around as well that Malakai Black asked for his release (it's more just people putting 2+2 together after there was a report someone asked for their release). I'd have no problem with him leaving because I think the whole house of black stuff is a load of bollox and I knew that would be the type of stuff we'd be getting when he signed so was never pushed on him signing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,171 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Black would want to get over himself with this nuanced dark shìte he is seemingly intent on doing.

KOR posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed, as he’s apparently had neck fusion surgery.

That's a shame, because it seems they were high on him, he got some pretty big wins in Singles, some surprisingly

The card isn't doing too much for me but really hope it's a good show tomorrow (tbf their PPVs usually are) but I also hope there is some good storylines set up coming out of it.

My interest in AEW feels like it's been waning in the last 2/3 months. I'm thinking of taking a break from it after All out but hopefully an angle or something on the show can get me interested again going forward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60,616 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I wonder what Punk will sing at the end of the PPV tomorrow when he loses to send the crowd home happy.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,762 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

I think it's a very good looking card in the end, it could even do with being trimmed a bit.

I really do wish they would would switch to more frequent PPVs though, so that you don't end up with this situation of some storylines being stretched out and cooling off a bit (Christian - Jungle Boy) and others just starting one or two weeks before the PPV.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,080 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

For anyone interested, AEW posted a new episode of Elevation on their youtube.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭ThePott

    ^ This.

A 15 match card is ludicrous even if 4 are on a pre-show. Some of these just reek of having to get all the major players on the card but have no real business being on it. It was dumb when Mania had this many matches and it's dumb now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60,616 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Tony Khan saying in interviews today that AEW will make record breaking profits in 2022 and the company will gross over $100m this year.

That is seriouly impressive for a comapny that is less than 4 years old and only a TV show and really hasn't started touring yet.

AEW's TV deal is worth $45m a year so the rest is being made up from PPVs sponsorships, merch sales and overseas TV that really is impressive business.

By all accounts with the merger between Warner & Discovery they will actually get a better deal from Discovery who will get a live weekly *cheaply made sports programme that draws a million every week and they can make reality content with to fill there love of crap reality filler shows

*For US sports $400k a week to make a show is dirt cheap.

So ROH cost less than $4m to buy.

Kind of a steal in this age for the content alone when original reports had it costing $30m to $40m.
