The last time the greens where in government was 2007 to 2011a fare amount of water has gone under the bridge since then. This is only the second time in Irish history that they have been in government. In the interim they only had 1 or 2 politicians in the Dail. The “message” being pumped out by the crew here is the greens and Eamon Ryan are idiots. You turn around then and say the greens are actually some sort of Machiavellian actor undermining society and politics the same way as the fossil fuel industry has done.

Well which is it, how did Eamon Ryan single-handedly and without anyone knowing undermine and twist politics in Ireland when he wasn’t in government if he and all the greens are idiots

    Sure

Here's why your premise is silly

7% refers to first prefs only, not to everyone who voted GP so doesn't take into account 2nd,3rd etc prefs

What first prefs have to do with anything after an election, I don't know, but you seem to place some value on them.

Either way, they are in govt and making great changes that will positively impact, environmentally speaking, the country for decades to come.

    93% didn't vote for them.

In your opinion they are making great changes.

In 93% of the others opinion they are heaping misery on already stretched households.

Did you listen to the Galway green member being grilled on Friday afternoon rte1 radio .

Regarding this hair brained boiler ban.

    Absolutely no answers.

The greens represent a pocket of wealthy citizens and a handful of idealistic crustys.

They should NEVER be allowed near government again. Currently polling at 4%! The same as PBP.

    Fringe eejits

Yet all we heard about was the "green wave" after the last election, well the tide is thankfully going out on the green clowns next time around.

Unfortunately the greens will have caused complete carnage by the next election.

    • Greater coverage of public transport with a cleaner fleet
    • Mass funding of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure
    • Cleaner air
    • A full planning system implemented for the development of the offshore wind industry (which they'd been crying out for, for years)
    • And so on

    Carnage indeed

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,299 ✭✭✭F34

Yes carnage for ordinary people who won’t be able to afford home heating should their boiler fail.

Based on your past record on Green Party lunacy, if Ryan announced a Roman Legion like decimation policy for the population "to save the planet" you would defend it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭Tonesjones

    Greens now polling at 2%!

Zero mandate . Get them out now!

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,068 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

If you want to go back far enough you could possibly blame it on Michael Collins being killed 100 years ago.

Ryan is the Minister in charge since June 27th 2020. Between 2010 and 2019 there were 13 electricity alert warnings. In 2021 there were 7.

Not only did he do nothing, ignoring warnings from both the CRU and Eirgrid, he actively made matters worse and is still attempting to add to that while still being cheered on by his handful of supporters here

We are in desperate need of an election as soon as possible. The Green's need to be removed before any more damage is done to this country by their crazy policies.

Greens are going to get wiped at next election but the latest opinion poll has no particular significance. Smaller 'left' parties all go up and down between 0 and 5%. SDs hit zero in one a while back but I still think they will likely be the fourth party after the next GE...

The Chinese & Indians are building coal fire power stations at a furious rate. Poland produces 70% of its power from the filthiest of coal (lignite). And the Poles have told Brussels to go stuff themselves.

And here we are, a mere speck in the global problem, going to cripple our country in order to be seen to be good boys.

The Greens will get zero seats in the next election.

It is astounding that all the media (tv & press) give the Greens such a sympathetic ride. No hard questions asked of them.

We are sleepwalking into a disaster.

You seem to overlook that almost the entire political body in Ireland has embraced green policies, I have not singled out the Greens for attention. Are you trying to tell me Eamon Ryan was stored in stasis between 2011 & 2020? How did Ireland become the second country to declare a climate emergency back in 2019? That was the most underhanded attack on democracy ever in this country, its intent is to be leveraged by groups using lawfare to force their will on the country and open the door for judges to create law, rather than interpret it.

As regards Eamon Ryans competence, he needs to be stripped of the energy portfolio right now before he does us any further damage. I suspect the Greens have no scruples about the current situation, their intention has been to price Irish people out of the market and prevent them consuming fossil fuels in Ireland. The other political parties can reap what they sowed at the hands of the voters.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

I'd go with misguided idiot zealots!

But they ain't the only group of potentially destructive morons in the country unfortunately........

Id say that about the other "side" too

The greens have lost the plot, the latest proposals for gas/oil boilers should consign them to history, the proposed ban on replacement/repair of older boilers is a new proposal, it will cost citizens tens of thousands, there is absolutely no sense in replacing a 12 year old well maintained/serviced boiler unless you have money to burn or get it done for free.

The greens appear to be trying to outgreen each other,is there some type of internal power struggle going on ? is ER trying to appeal to the zealots in his party? we have observed how the Tories have destroyed the reputation of the UK when they put the party before country, the greens seem intent to follow the same path.

The days of the sane voter giving them a lower preference on the ballot should be long gone,(and I say that as someone who did exactly that). We all have to remember that the harmless greens are no more, starve them of transfers.

FF fg are enabling it and are guilty of anything the greens are

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,199 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

The proposal to ban replacement gas and oil boilers is utter lunacy and indeed carnage for ordinary citizens. Those heat pumps are absolutely useless in homes not designed for them. It will cost people tens of thousands in forced retrofitting that they can't afford. Utter lunacy.

I think deep down when you drill into green policy they are radical left veering on communism.

They hate an industrialed world and I get the feeling they are not bothered about people's grief to get to their prize and if we want anything similar using green energy which is years away we'll stuff you you irish pixie head you will do what your told.

I haven’t overlooked anything. As your probably well aware Ireland has declared and signed up to plenty of things in its history, housing emergency, declaration of human rights, etc and not implemented any of what’s required. If they were serious about climate change mitigation then there’d be much faster changes instead we are laggards in Europe.

When you say underhanded attack on democracy explain what you mean.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,328 ✭✭✭Banana Republic 1

Maybe do a bit of reading on philosophy even communism allowed industry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,375 ✭✭✭✭tom1ie

Such as not building anymore fossil fuel infrastructure.

    Great policy 🙄

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,068 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

Having dealt with both, maybe a bit of reading on command economies and free market economies would give you a better understanding on just how communism allowed industry to operate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭combat14

how soon till we can wipe out the greens in the next election ....

Based on the runaway prices of fossil fuels it would indeed appear to be a great policy 😊

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,375 ✭✭✭✭tom1ie

A great policy to impoverish people post 2025?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,068 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

A policy where renewables have not made any difference to energy prices.

It was never meant to. The pricing policy was not designed to save consumers money by reducing energy prices. It was to maximise profits for renewable energy companies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,199 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

This is the smugness of the green movement. They'd love to see people sitting in the freezing cold unable to heat their homes, purely for idealogical purposes.

Its very scary, they seem to be ecstatic at the thought of people suffering fuel poverty just so they can wallow in their own arrogance, and I say that as an occasional green voter, they will never see a vote from me again.

I also wonder did ER float this ludicrous idea with the knowledge it would be laughed at but he would sneakily tighten regulation on the original proposal.Eg bring forward ban on oil/gas boilers and outlaw 12 years or older boilers.
