Anybody know what works they are doing on the green road? It's down to one lane at the bridge. Further down they have removed the hedges between the school and lumville house and are doing works.

Could the County Council not have done this during the summer whilst the schools are off?? They wait until the last moment and install temp traffic lights at the bridge on the Green Road for a week. The schools are back next week and that road is already extremely busy as the traffic is being diverted this way because of the ongoing roadworks at Liffey Hall. Beggars beleif !!!

Anyone know have the light sequence been changed at Byrne’s Cross? Queue crawls from the station entrance/exit.

But again this is incorrect...there was plenty of notice of these meetings, in fact they werent just held in Bishopland/Lakeside/Newbridge, they were all over. There was a public meeting in the CY with Eoin O'Broin also. Thats the groundwork it takes to retain seats.

How high and consistently does a party have to poll before its no longer a protest vote? The SF number is consistently high all over the country for the last few years.

Regarding Berry...I just dont see it this time around at all, his siding with the govt in Dail votes etc not a good luck for an independent

The social Media backlash presently against Fiona O'Loughlin has got to hurt her too. Lots of stuff about her as a teacher

Interesting but I can see it being Ryan, Heydon fighting for poll topping again

EDIT: I was up town yesterday. Seems something was done on Friday, as there was no build-up

Not doubting You Raven, but I am from Newbridge, like to follow local politics yet was oblivious of these meetings You mention ( one thing I don’t have a FB account & im sure I’m not alone), Perhaps all parties need to look at their media mediums?

I agree with You about CB. In the beginning it was great to get expert military views especially earlier this year when putin invaded Ukraine. I also agree though about Your view that He’s supporting the government too much, certainly for my liking., and after the deafening silence from MM about Troy, I wonder what support FF will lose after this debacle. One thing I will say for CB, he’s the ONLY TD I have heard from since the last election.

I only hope You are totally wrong though about who will be contenders for top spot come the next election. How heydon is tops beats me. I’m also despairing about the electorate when they vote for someone who went on holiday as the election was being held.

BUT, that leaves a dearth of choices.

Heydon has some magic touch for voters in Kildare South, baffles me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Repo101

Care to provide an example of said notice or are you just talking nonsense again?

Nothing in the local papers, parish newsletters or on social media from what I can see but I'm not on Facebook.

Plenty of notice yet provides not a shred of every evidence. Not a fan of Hayden but at least he has a constituency office in the town along with Berry.

A popularity vote now is meaningless to the largest town in Kildare South. Very obvious that Patricia Ryan simply does not care as her absence got her elected the last time.

Even her own website seems to exclude Newbridge:

    "About Me

Patricia Ryan is a Sinn Fein TD for Monasterevin, Kildare Town, Allenwood & The Curragh."

I voted for her last time and I won't be doing it again.

In fairness, Fiona O’Loughlin & Sean O’Fearghaill also have offices in the town.

I did not see any posts on P. Ryan's FB page advertising a public meeting about modular housing

I don't think Ukranians should be put in Lakeside.

Lakeside is a run down pit full of scumbags, thieves and drug dealers. Most are on social welfare, are xenophobic, racist and dreadfully short of any intelligence.

Putting decent Ukrainians that are fleeing a war and who have done their best to integrate in communities and get jobs and give back to communities into the cesspit that is Lakeside would be totally unjust.

If Kildare CC wish to put a modular home on my land to house a family of Ukrainians, I would be very welcome to the idea.

The stupids in lakeside use two "excuses" both put forward by Ms Ryan of sinn fein -

    1. they are unvetted - are you having a joke, half of Lakeside have criminal history and gardai have confirmed that Ukranians do not feature at all on their records.

2.the old chestnut, 10,000 homeless. In entire Kildare county, there were less than 150 people in emergency accommodation as of April 30th. That's the entire county. 80% of those in emergency accommodation are based in the main cities and if people knew the breakdown of those figures, they'd have a different attitude. Lets just say 20% (cso census) are from a particular "ethnic" community

Ms patricia ryan is a xenophobe and her "letter of concern" was designed to rile up the stupid brainless sheep in the cesspit of Newbridge.

Don't make Ukrainians suffer any further and mix them with the scum in lakeside

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,723 ✭✭✭Damien360

You are a **** idiot. You clearly are from nowhere near Lakeside and don’t know Newbridge at all. Plenty of decent people in Lakeside that bought out their council house. Lots of ex-army. Yes it has a few bad elements but they are few and far between. Patricia Ryan didn’t even turn up at the meeting and sent 2 representatives. Her letter that she put out there pretty much supported the government position as does Sinn Fein. Did you even read it before waffling about xenophobia.

There are lots of extended Irish families living in the same home waiting for a home in that area and Ukraine people are just about getting them handed them. How is that fair.

The war in Ukraine is in a small section of it and life in Ukraine is continuing as normal in most of it. Many of those “refugees “ are not that at all but just cashing in.

The lane in Lakeside for access is the back entrance and parking for a row of homes. It is unsuitable. It is a field behind Murphy’s home. The residents have been years asking the council to fix up the basketball court they plan on sticking the homes into. Now the latest is the long term plan was this was always going to be developed long before recent events but of course nobody has a single document to back up that claim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭walterking

Lakeside is a cesspit. Yes there are some decent people there, but it has a massive anti social issue and a substantial criminal element.

Hopefully decent Ukrainians will not be put into that cesspit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

I think the point is being missed here

I live in Roseberry Hill and in front of my house is also a green. My heart bleeds for those poor people in Ukraine. But I would also look on negatively if this ‘government’ adopted the gung-ho attitude and erected modular homes without any consultation.

As for a td(?) jumping on the bandwagon calling a meeting on this topic but not bothering her a**e turning up ( as stated above )? This is the same person who went on holiday during the election? Speaks volumes!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

Just heard on RTE that the protest is postponed. Apparently the government minister i ( O’Gorman ) is to set up a meeting with the residents.

I am from lakeside. I am highly offended by your comments.

Have you ever lived in lakeside? Do you even live in Newbridge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

Agree Tommy. I think those who generalise need to look at themselves in a mirror. There’s good and not so good everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,908 ✭✭✭Cazale

The junction at Liffey Hall opened there a few minutes ago.

Tommy boy has been a good and positive contributor since early days of this thread.

I can vouch He is anything but a troll. Please just because He disagrees with your insulting remarks why must that be classified as trolling?

EDIT: Rereading back I surmised You were calling Tommy a troll? I think You were actually referring to the other person. If so, apologies for the misunderstanding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

No the guy calling Lakeside the various names etc was surely just trolling. Apologises to Tommy Boy if he thought it was him, all Lakeside people stand together 😁

    I certainly was not trolling.

I've been burgled twice - both from lakeside.

A friend's business was broken into - guy was from lakeside.

A woman in a club I'm in was attacked - the girl was a junkie from lakeside.

Go to Naas courthouse on a Tuesday, Lakeside gets plenty of coverage.

That sinn fein thick knew what she was doing - she was targeting the xenophobic and racist people in lakeside with her false claims.

Yes there are decent people there too, but it's the scum there that always seem to rise to the top and show themselves off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 71 ✭✭inisfree0504

A friend of mine has recently started working in the town and is desperate for accommodation - she has trawled daft.ie etc but there are literally only 1-2 lettings at a time. Is there somewhere else/more local ads would be posted? I've had a look at facebook groups but there doesn't seem to be much there either.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to be asking about this - just hoping to be pointed in the right direction of where to look.

I got an email from Thornton's during the week informing me that their rates are going up.

Green Bin from €1.75 to €1.95

Brown Bin from €6.25 to €6.90

Black Bin from €11.30 to €12.50

I'm not sure yet what their annual charge is going up to ( if at all ), this year it was €85.00.

While I have no complaints about their service, I find their charges becoming expensive - how they can justify the charge for compost is something I cannot fathom. I know Oxygen and AES are in RH

Are there other options in Newbridge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭GavMan

Ray Whelan is the other one I see every now and. I've no complaints about AES myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,723 ✭✭✭Damien360

We use Oxigen. No bother with them. They were also willing to drop their price to match (paid in full for year) as AES were cheaper this year.

Frasers is opening today where debenhams used to be. Mr Price are going in to a unit beside where Timbercraft and Tyre Source are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,908 ✭✭✭Cazale

There is a Mizzoni pizza coming soon to the unit where Al Vesuvio and more recently Ramen were located.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

That’s across the road from Eddie Rockets, right Cazale?

Yet another fast food joint. I know there are a lot of economic uncertainties on the horizon, but if someone can afford to pump money into another fast food joint, why can they not put the money in for a decent restaurant. It’s a shame we have to go to Kildare Town, Two Mile House, Milltown, Kilcullen etc to have a decent dining experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 990 ✭✭✭LostinKildare

    I miss Al Vesuvio. <sad>

In the last couple of months I've had really good experiences at Jaipur and Dubh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,051 ✭✭✭NewbridgeIR

I had a lovely meal in Jaipur in the last month - first time eating there in years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,723 ✭✭✭Damien360

Ate in the new Indian Restaurant on Main Street over Eddie’s shop last weekend (don’t know current name). Lovely food and lovely staff. Reasonable pricing also. Usual cobra beer available and wines of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,744 ✭✭✭Badly Drunk Boy

Silver Oaks. I haven't been in there yet, but got a delivery and it was fine. I still prefer the food from the other new Indian in George's Street, the magnificently named Tandoori Spice Hot. 😃 😉

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭silverview

What work are they doing on Morristown Road? I guess they must be doing something with the bridge? Hopefully widening it? I see its closed till the end of the month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭GavMan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

I heard the bridge was hit twice & they are repairing it. Didn’t realise it’s closed until month end though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,723 ✭✭✭Damien360

It is always getting hit. I have met the Centra articulated truck on that more than once. Not sure how it gets around the roundabout close to the sarsfield side. It’s tight for buses also. And lots of people are just clueless to the width of their cars. It really needs to be either widened or more likely get lights.

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭silverview

Agree, if it can't be widened, they need to put lights there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

I could be wrong, but didn’t the Rathangan bus used to be routed over that bridge too?

I agree, this bridge should be traffic light controlled, just like Sexes Bridge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,795 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

    Hi all.

Really sorry if this is not the place to ask but, given it is the official thread for Newbridge, I expect local residents can give me the best answer. We have been looking at a house in Newbridge and we really like it. However we have heard from some people who claim to know it better than us that Newbridge is a bit rough. Can I ask if you have found this while living there?

I don't mean any offence at all by asking this question, I am just trying to get feedback from people who live there as opposed to second hand information.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,507 ✭✭✭WishUWereHere

Mind me asking what area You are looking at?

To answer Your question, I would say categorically that Newbridge is not rough at all. Personally, I wouldn’t walk down Eyre Street at night ( street that runs parallel to Main Street ) otherwise I’d have no problem going anywhere in town.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,744 ✭✭✭Badly Drunk Boy

Would there be enough room for a queue of traffic with the entrances to Lakeside Park and Beechmount Avenue/Allenview Heights there, as well as Watercress Manor and the vet? I suppose it would be doable with lights but it'd be messy. A new wider bridge would be the ideal solution but won't happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,795 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

Thanks! Don't really want to give too much away other than to say it's not in Newbridge but Newbridge is the closest town to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭GavMan

Newbridge is not rough. There are isolated incidents of crime and anti social behaviour like anywhere in the world. If the area and house suits you and your budget, go for it

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭Jess2019

I moved from Dublin to Newbridge and would not class Newbridge as rough at all. Of course, you get the odd dodgy person, but compared to Dublin the number is very small. Not even worth mentioning. The people are very friendly, I haven't seen any trouble at all since I moved here.

Not sure what kind of demonstration was taking place outside McDonalds in Newbridge today, but not a great place for people holding placards (beep if you think all politicians are corrupt ??!!) when you're trying to negotiate a large busy intersection . Were they run out of the town centre ?
