Best quality oven pizza?

Lidl used to sell a range of pizza called Bufala and they were pretty close to the "Neapolitan" style you'd get in some restaurants. Nice puffy light crust around the edge, quite thin in the middle and a bit droopy. Unfortunately, they've stopped stocking it. It was good enough to keep the takeaway cravings at bay.

So, now that it can't be found anywhere (at least in my Lidls) I am on the hunt for the BEST QUALITY OVEN PIZZA out there.

I don't like Goodfellas or Dr. Oetker or Deep Pan American Crust stuff. The tomato sauce on all of them tastes like tesco value bogonese sauce. I'm looking for something more fresh tasting like the sort of acidic tomato sauce on Neapolital pizzas.

I've tried tesco's finest non frozen pizzas, which are pretty decent but quite heavy on the dough. At least they were last time I tried them. I'll probably go back to buying them.

Anything else I should try?

I'm the opposite, I prefer the deeper pan so sorry I can't be much help to you. I'd consider myself a bit of a snob when it comes to brands, but the Tesco Pepperoni and Tesco Cheese pizzas are miles ahead of the Goodfellas/Chicago Towns etc.

No comparison.

Milanos romana pizzas. But if you like pizza, it is actually easy enough to make from scratch whether using an Ooni pizza oven or even a pizza stone in a normal oven. Easy enough to make and super tasty.

I just want to grab a slice from the freezer and stick it into the air fryer. I don't have time to make it from scratch. Also, it would probably taste like shyte. I'm not an Italian pizza chef.

Aldi, SuperValu and some Dunnes sell these pizza bases, which are pretty decent

They also do a sourdough version.

Adding the sauce and grated cheese is a little bit more effort than putting a frozen pizza into the oven, but the bases are freezeable, so I'm sure you could add the sauce and cheese, slice it, freeze the slices and AirFry them from frozen, as with a frozen pizza.

Im with you all the way. You cant beat a good quality frozen pizza. The mini chicargo towns are fairly tasty. Give them a go.

Himself likes the Chicago Town Tiger Bread pizza. Generally goodfellas is not good (sauce too sweet and plentiful). Almost always adds his own chillis and and extra cheese.

When I abandon him for work, I sometimes leave him with the stone baked pizza bases, mutti pizza sauce, and bags of grated cheese (unused bases and sauces freeze well). The pizza quality is halfway between frozen pizza and the from scratch ones we make ourselves. When there's only one of you, the from scratch pizza is a lot of effort.

Not a fan of frozen pizza but these are lovely. The local Supervalu stopped stocking them at the end of 2019 and I haven't seen them anywhere else.

I find the Piero Bases less doughy. Make the tomato sauce recommended for the Ooni Pizza oven, tear up a ball of Buffalo Mozerella, a few basil leaves coated in olive oil and job done!

Would also recommend Saturday pizza, but very hard to come by in any Tescos near me. I tend to buy a good few when I stumble across them.

If I was to go down the diy route, is a good jar of pasatta OK to use on the base? And what about a pizza stone, worth buying?

I find the best bases are Di Piero, Dunnes stock them and maybe Tesco. Aldi do a grand pizza base sauce and packet of mozzarella. I usually load up with pepperoni, Italian ham and sweetcorn. Find it's way nicer than store bought.

You can get jars of pizza sauce in Aldi. Basically crushed tomatoes with some seasoning but handier than doing it yourself. Probably wouldn't need the stone unless you're making the base yourself.

That's what proper Napoli pizza chefs do. Just tastes like fresh tomato.

Irish people prefer a thick dolmio Bolognese flavour sauce with 4,000 ingredients.

Lidl used to do a margherita with extra pesto, 2 in a box, but stopped them a good few years ago. They were lovely.

The nearest thing to it that I can currently get is Centra's own brand.

Otherwise the ready made base and sauce and lashings of mozzarella are the way to go.
