If he had he would of no doubt bragged about it - 100%

knows the jig's up for the trend - 100%

I think the source for that info is from the chaps themselves, not sure if its actually true, of the top 10 youtubers only 2 are personal names. I certainly think its more to do with them wanting the algorithm not to pigeon hole them into the watch space as they branch out into vomitous lifestyle bile, and Grant Cardone type self help. I can really see Oisin going down the life coach route, cold approach to girls, giving life advice to the beta cucks that seem to comment on his channel.

Youtube algorithms are heavily biased towards niche channels and subjects and tags, large and small(on top of obvous stuff like views etc), rather than names. Personal names come way down the list unless that person is already famous outside of youtube, or has become famous because of youtube. IE a channel named "1960's music" will be favoured more than the channel with the name of the bass player from Canned Heat, or the name of a random bloke who is a 60's music buff, whereas a channel named "Paul McCartney" will be favoured more.

All for pretty obvious reasons. Unless a name if already well known and/or their niche is strongly attached to that name it tells potential viewers nothing. Joseph O'Soap's channel will be favoured far less and get far fewer hits from a niche audience like watches than Joe's Rolex Box.

The plain facts are the watch trend is trending down. There are fewer buyers, less wider interest and falling viewer numbers across social media. Covid bounce kept it going for longer than it should have but that's pretty much over now. Page hits on sites like Hodinkee which took the hobby mainstream are way down. The once couple of hundred comments under articles are now more like a couple of dozen. Even the mania aorund the Moonswatch is tapering off. Prices on ebay are now around 100 quid over retail and the majority have "or best offer" attached. It's the trend in microcosm.

So it makes far more sense to already established "names" on the Tube in this niche to diversify into "lifestyle" stuff to get ahead of the game.

Lads! Those comments are verging on delusional. Surely there has to be a lot of them from either socks or bots?

I've no interest in his channel or his next adventure. I get that he has a following and I even get why, but, much like WWE! It's just not for me 😉

There are a lot of poor divils out there who see their lives as crap and lonely etc and will watch guys like Oisin and make him out to be a hero of sorts. The beige bloke in a beiger cublicle in LA who can't speak to Ann from accounts without sweating like a perv and whose only foreign experience was a day trip to Mexico. If you can get a piece of that market you're golden. If you can get a piece of the much larger women's "self help" market you're minted. Look at that now dead as a dodo Pickup Artist ballsology. That was huge ten years ago with a load of lonely socially excluded men signing up and paying money to listen to their "gurus". A fair number of which made some big bank from it.

So ould Gringa is getting out in front of the crash and making vids about the madness that she herself helped to create..modern problems require modern solutions I suppose....the spice content must flow. You know she is completly untrained to give any sort of financial or economic advice. She is Church of England Minister, so all she knows about as much about it as my dog, she is just trying to get out ahead of it so in a year she can claim she called it, and if it doesn't happen forget she said anything.

She does look like Sofia Vergara after a decade of domestic violence.

On those that sell watches channels their story is “it’s just a blip”.

On those that don’t…”it the end of the world”.

They all just want views so Rolex Rolex rolex

agreed , she’s exceptionally irritating. Shes an Aldi version of jenni Elle and she’s annoying as well

    Oh you utter fúcker.

You owe me a keyboard. 😂

To be fair to her, I did catch a vid of hers where she outlined the kinda money(and expenses) you could expect from a moderately viewed Tube channel. You don't see that behind the curtain stuff too often.

She's vanished too. I think? No doubt coming back in the "lifestyle" arena too. Well the beaut with that is you can follow all trends without being slave to one and she's already run with the name and personality upfront so more sensible outa the gate.

The fashionable(and gullible) are always the first to jump on the new shiny ship and the first to scurry down the hawsers when it starts to list. The wider contagion will be interesting.

See with the female watch youtubers, the thing always was that they were a novelty in a nerdy male hobby. THat how Jeni (with a flipping I for god sake) Elle got so popular. Her reviews are fairly standard and her photography was normal enough. No drama, no real USP except that she is female, not shrek ugly and is slim. Same with Gringa (except her voice and teeth make me want to stab myself ). Not to get too misogynistic here but both ladies also seem to have a fellow in the background that is the one really into the watches and pulling the strings.

You only need watch a livestream on one of the watch channels for a few minutes and you discover that the fellows watching this stuff are weird and sad chaps, that sit masterbating and crying in their bedrooms. The thought of touching a real woman....yet alone meeting one with a shared interest is enough to send them into premature climax. Its these sad pricks that the watch youtube game is aimed at....and in keeping with the thread Oisin captures some of this as these same wanabe school shooters love a fellow talking to them that is "cool" and successful with the ladies. They cannot spot a bullshitter or spoofer so poorly tuned and completely unused are their interpersonal skills.

I see Jeni Elle is moving a bit into computer game streaming....and again this captures the "sad lonely fcuker" bit of the market, hasn't posted a video in a month. Oisin will move into the movie reviews, war documentary, stories of female conquests and past glories and pompous wine, food and cigar connoisseur. Dont know what Gringa will move into....

Wibbs TBH that "how much I make from yourtube" is a standard video most of them make at around the 20k subs mark. At that stage the money is enough not to make a mockery of doing it but not enough to make anyone jealous or feel they are paid shills.

Y'know I've never met a woman who was even vaguely into watches. At most a Cartier tank, though more usually a "fashion brand" as an accessory to general jewellery stuff. I've known many women big into cars, including working on the oily bits, fishing, hunting, gaming, carpentry, martial arts, pretty much every hobby out there. About the only other women free zone I can think of would be stuff like model trains and the like.

Even among men it used to be extremely niche. Now you always had lots, even most men wearing one, pre phones anyway, but it was almost always one and often a gift and a gold(or plated) dress type watch, a digital or a generic diver type. Actually collecting was the reserve of weirdos and nearly always older guys. I remember on my first browse of London dealers way back in the day where guys I talked with were surprised a guy like me in his twenties had an interest. A fair chunk of the more recent interest seems to have been the investment angle and the bling factor as it's about the only jewellery men can wear on a daily basis since tie pins(and ties) and cufflinks went the way of the flesh and among younger men, or at least younger men started to take interest.

Ah right Fitz gotcha. I didn't know that. I suppose my main Tube channels would be history, cars, science and the like and most aren't "personality" driven.

Yeah the "cute girls playing bleepy games" streaming thing seems to be a thing alright. Simp city by the looks of it. Not a shock either. I mean there are men who pay and pay enough to sustain the porn industry when it's all a free click away. To me paying for something like porn is akin to going to a dive shop to buy an aqualung so you can pay for air. So many poor buggers paying for some "connection" or something. Maybe I'm over sensitive, but I find that terribly fcuking sad.

I ain’t on instagerm or fakebook (and cool enough to use slur names for them) but has he a few watches for sale at the moment?

I see stagnation “at best” for the next 12-18 month (which is the same as 15 percent drop given inflation levels).

Market will find its own level. Sellers are still unrealistic. While there are lads thinking second hand speedmaster are “5k no offers” the market can get fucked as far as I am concerned. These were 20 percent off retail 2 years ago and selling brand new for 3.5k. Ye were stupid enough pay full retail for a speedmaster then don’t expect to recoup 80 percent of it second hand.

Yes he’s a new & old model airking and an OP he’s been spamming for sale over the last few weeks .He’d be doing you a big favour by letting you buy them though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭scwazrh

There it is Lads. He told us in his most recent video that the time to buy was now cause the prices will go back up …Here’s his post now proving his point..

No shortage of self confidence and believing his own BS

lol, seems his understanding of statistics is about as superficial as his understanding of Quantum physics and relativity. Read the axis there Oisin, you are inferring trends from tiny changes of around 150 euro. Also with inflation at 10% any flat slope is actually a 10% loss, but look he is creating his own reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,033 ✭✭✭✭unkel
    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The latter isn't entirely fair though, is it? If you stick €10k in a Rolex which stays flat in value or if you keep €10k in your bank account, both lose 10% per year in inflation at the moment

The opportunity cost of money is negative so it seems, precious metal, crypto, classic cars, stock market, pension funds, antiques, all gone to sh1t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭Fitz II

The inflation loss is a loss, doesn't matter what the oppertunity cost is. The 10k you have in a Rolex has 10% less buying power every year at the moment. (yes buy more watches, or other investments, but the point of an investments is if you needed the money for something necessary not flipping into other investments, and that money will be worth less) Stocks doing ok so long as you stay out of the hype stuff and good time to buy index units. Property strong. Gov bonds are really good at the moment 4-9% and are iron clad. Plenty of inflation beating investments so long as you are willing to go medium to long term. Watches are also becoming more and more illiquid too.

Sure watches are subject to the same economic conditions as everything else....but they are also a bubble asset for the last few years, so a correction back to the historic growth curve is a long was to drop and we have not seen it yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,318 ✭✭✭893bet

    Jesus.

Those graphs of the last month are symptomatic of the overall problem facing the industry driven by retard YouTubers like Timepiece gentleman “todays price is not yesterdays price” approach.

The very idea that you can monitor watch prices on a daily/weekly or even monthly basis is a new phenomenon. And using a platform so open to manipulation like c24…..foolish.

Without a doubt . if he’s wrong he’ll delete his post and pretend it never happened.Anyone remember his posts slagging of Conor McGregor ?

McGregor got his solid gold yachtmaster II and posted a pic with a comment of “ the biggest gold Rolex they make “ to which Oisin screen shot it and posted “ who wants to tell him he’s wrong “ and “This lad knows nothing about watches “ and other such smart arse comments.

He quickly deleted the posts when it was pointed out that it is indeed the largest gold Rolex they make

Has he gone and reposted the controversial video with the French woman? Seems like an odd move after that has died down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭scwazrh

Sure he’d do anything for a bit of drama now.

I notice there’s no big value watch unboxings lately with him , the grey sellers are obviously wise to him now .I’d imagine he’s on a cash up front basis since the nico dramatics .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭Fitz II

I note very disappointing views on the Venice video....no Rolex in the title and nobody watches. Actually the views are not great at all given 60k subs....7k views on that Zero West Oscar nominated documentary??? Hardly worth the 100 hours he says he put into it.

As for the French Girl re-upload, thats classless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭scwazrh

I could tolerate his personality enough to be able to watch his videos when the video was about a watch or his earlier ones set in other cities , but certainly not interested in his “lifestyle “ videos . The low views would suggest I’m not on my own.

Agreed , uploading again the video with the French girl is classless and borderline harassment of her . She made it very clear she wanted nothing to do with him or his channel. He’s being true to form

Anyone watch his producer Michael video? Surprised it was originally taken down, it wasn't anything to get too fussed over. Producer Michael has a taste for watches that aren't everybody's cup of tea, surely he can acknowledge that? The majority of watch collectors would prefer Oisin's tastes, that can't be a surprise to anyone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,318 ✭✭✭893bet

I tried to watch his “response” to watch gringa video but could t suffer his arrogance.

Her video was well thought out and edited. His was a lazy arrogant dismissive response.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭Fitz II

Yep couldn't make it through either, such a smug, self righteous response as he puffs like a twat on a donkeys dick of a cigar...Get the feeling he is trying to get some of that angry victim white male, misogynist, raciest subscribers going.

I watched it through as it’s car crash viewing . He starts with she’s my great friend and I like her so much and then is completely obnoxious towards her.I don’t think it’s an act either , he seems naturally a disrespectful f*cker towards women.

Im not a fan of gringa but she’s only giving her opinion like all the other YouTubers are on the same topic .

I take it he's still pushing the notion that it's business as usual in the collecting watches game, sorry the used car dealer roll up roll up buy your investments here flippers game? I'm still on hodinkee's email list and latterly I've been getting emails about discounts on their pre owned watches, own brand straps and other tat. Don't recall anything like that a year ago, or before.

It's been a while since I went to their site, but one thing I noticed right off the bat after being away for a goodly while; the comment sections are way down on the numbers of a few years ago.

Back to what he does best. In Bologna.

The DJ41 does looks far too small on him though in above pic, doesn't it? The AP ROO looks a better fit. Never tried one on, must go do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭Fitz II

Anyone that can make it all the way through that should get a medal. The DJ41 looks fine in that pic to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,394 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

was gonna say, looks fine to me as well if im honest, the dj41 is no shrinking violet especially with the jubilee and fluted bezel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭scwazrh

The datejust is a very noticeable watch , lots of wrist presence and bling in that configuration.

41mm is not small on anyones wrist .if the likes of Dwayne Johnson can wear it and look well proportioned the rest of us in the real world will be fine. I doubt anyone here has a larger presence than him .

Might be a big lad, but his wrists look about average size to me. O'Malley's wrists are substantially bigger than average. Like that guy from Edinburgh watches. Most watches he wears look far too small on him too. But I seem alone here in these observations 😂

Here he is with a 40mm bluesy. Love that watch but it wears like a 36mm on his wrist:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,394 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

The rocks wrists look average , leave it out Unkel 😀

he is 6 feet 5 as well as being the most electrifying…..

He's a huge lad of course, but his wrists don't look big to me. Same with Arnie, he would eat Dwayne for breakfast but doesn't have big wrists either 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,318 ✭✭✭893bet

I am only working with a small sample size but I have deduced an above average wrist size directly correlates with lower intelligence compounded by a lack of self awareness.

Oisin is the poster child for the study but there are a few others providing confirmatory data.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,195 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Arnie has way above average sized wrists. This is him wearing a vintage original B-Uhr.

    That's a 55mm case.

Just googled and it seems you're right @Wibbs - Arnie has 7.5" wrists. A good bit smaller than the 8" of O'Malley and Jonathan though. That sub on Jonathan looks like a kids watch on him

That B-Uhr looks good on Arnie!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,195 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Arnie at 7.5' must have flatter wrists if you know what I mean Unk. Very wide across, shallow enough down, because those original B-Uhrs are truly massive, 55mm case but that's without the lug to lug. I had a Stowa one back in the 90's and it was obviously unwearable for me* but among my mates a few would be well built lads, either by muscle or something else 😁 and it looked daft on them too.

*I got it for a couple of hundred quid so more as a bedside "clock" and interesting trinket. Fantastic timekeeper mind you.

Are you 100% sure that’s a vintage ?Ive seen that photo before and it was named as a Laco 45mm which if @unkel is right that his wrist is 7.5” , the 45mm would make more sense based on that pic
