Hi so new to this I'm hoping someone can help me so I purchased a vehicle in Ireland but was on switzerland plates I was informed all documents were in vehicle 2 weeks when on when I was to book vrt I noticed the vehicle logbook was photocopied so ran a vehicle check all came back clear not stolen or anything but tryed contacting original own but phone was out of service....has anyone any idea how I contact switzerland registration office

I believe that there is a book/ list of every swiss number plate, and it gives you the drivers details.

That's something you might want to look into.

Swiss number plates are registered to the owner, not the car. If the owner has two cars, they have two reg plates.

Daughter lives in Zurich. She has two cars. One for winter & the other for summer use. One licence plate for the two cars.

The owner name and address used be guaranteed to be publicly accessible. Nowadays it's possible to be hidden from the random public DB access. Of course the authorities of various types can still access the information.

Any of the cantons not included on that site, it'l lbe a 20CHF fee to access the name and address of a plate-owner.

(@Sam Russell https://www.ch.ch/en/vehicles-and-traffic/cars-and-other-vehicles/registering-and-deregistering-a-car-or-motorbike/#interchangeable-number-plates you need both insurance documents to be allocated an interchangeable plate. The fines for driving on the wrong plate or an incorrect plate are fairly substantial and it's easy to be caught with the automated plate readers that are around, so the typiclly Irish thing of not paying tax then driving around is a much higher risk if attempted in Zurich.

Re: OP's question, TheWonderLlama has the correct answer. Whoever was (technically still is according to the Swiss..) the owner would have to get the documents for a small replacement fee.
