Good evening. I was quoted the following for a flat roof:

    15 Jinko Pannels 395 W ( 6kw total)

    6 KW Huawei Inverter

15 optimizers ( not sure if all of these would be needed, during winter I could get shade on 5 of them)

    Huawei Backup box

    Mounting system

    13k euros before Grant

Add battery (Huawei Luna 2000): 18.5K euros before Grant

    Optional: Eddi

I think I know the answer and I'm getting new quotes.

Keep on looking, unless you want Huawei components you will get much more for your money with other makes which are just as good.

nope, too high esp. considering no battery or DHW diversion or EV charger in there.. have you seen post#1 in this thread on price guidance?

I've missed battery. My apologies. Battery is 5.2kWh GivEnergy Battery Storage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭jkforde

still too pricy even if you use €1.2k per kwp and €1.2k per 2.5kw battery (and note that batteries (non-DIY) are now a 100% doubt with CEG payments coming on stream, although got to admit that that filling up on night rate is great 😎) (btw, is the SEAI grant for batteries still available?)

What's shocking is the markup for install. If you look at buying panels, inverter, and battery online, at non trade prices, you can get a 6kw system, and 4-5kw battery for under 7k. So folks getting quoted 13k before grant is a total rip, especially as i imagine installers can get the components for much less at trade prices. This country really needs pricing guidelines for renewable installation costs. My 6.4 Kwp system was installed for 10k before grant. It was a days work for an electrician and a roofer. Easily 3k profit on that job for that one day.

Don't forget, the installer gets paid the gross amount

Any guidance on if this is a good quote?

    12 panels (335W, 4’x 6’)

    4.8kW battery

No Eddi (I have a heat pump)

€13,600 (but would give me VAT off if I pay in cash, so technically €11,764. I don’t qualify for the grant.)

He said my roof and house orientation are ideal. I’m opting to go for 12 as opposed to 8 panels to future proof against getting an electric car.

If I’ve calculated correctly based on the first post, the above should cost ~€7,300 including VAT. Am I really being quoted nearly double the reasonable amount?

    Thanks in advance.

What do people think of this quote

    Solar Panels

    Jinko

    4.98 kW Total Solar Power

    12 x 415 Watt Panels (JKM415N-54HL4-B)

    3,889 kWh per year

    Inverter

    Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

    5 kW Total Inverter Rating

    1 x SUN2000-5KTL-L1

    price 7400 after grant

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭DC999

1st off, why don't you qualify for the grant? The age of the house changed so you can check the SEAI site for more info. Just in case you're being told old news.

If you wanted to, you could contact the SEAI and play the fool. Tell them your installer suggested they could remove the VAT depending on how you paid, and ask are they entitled to do that. We all know the answer of course.

Good news is you now know roof + house orientation are ideal. So get some more quotes. Good call to get as many panels as you can (within reason), to future proof a future electric car.

    Please rate this quote:

    18*370w JA Panels =6.6kwp system

solis 6 kw inverter (with wifi dongle?)

dc isolator, ac isolator, firemans switch

    5.1kw Dryness battery

Eddi ( I will ask for its removal)

€15,000, they will claim the grant, BER at my expense,

    Net total €12,600 (+BER)

    Install March 2023

hi Folks - I would appreciate views on the quotes below.

They sorta line up to the guidance though of course that guidance comes from what people are being quoted.

I was surprised by how much the panels seem to have increased in cost per unit. Why? Supply vs Demand?

We have a PHEV and will probably have an EV at some point.

Solis Hybrid inverter to allow for potential battery in future - my thinking is that the FIT + PHEV will offset value of battery.

South facing roof though a tall chimney will prob necessitate optimisers on most / all panels.

Thanks - I thought there was an extra grant of 600 for the car charger ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,412 ✭✭✭con747

Sorry, I read your post wrong. I thought you were getting a battery and that €600 grant was scrapped.

The fact that they include all the ancillary kit in the quote speaks volumes, bulking up the list to justify a fat price. i would politely leave them alone and ask someone else.

Lol, if I hadn't just seen someone on Facebook quoted €14.2k for a 3.5kWp system with 5kWh battery, then this one would be the worst I've seen in a while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36 causewayer

Thanks DrPhilG. After reading more here, I will seek a quote from the Enniskillen guys.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭micks_address

the best quote ive gotten so far is 11600 euro after grant

    410 w by 16 panels = 6.56kw

    5kw givenergy hybrid invertor

    8.2kw givenergy battery

    install etc..

Enniskillen was more expensive that that and are booked up till march next year - these crew are 6 to 8 weeks install

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,997 ✭✭✭3DataModem

    Just got my first quote;

    • 9 x 3.6kWp Jinko panels
    • Huawei 3.68 KW inverter

    9,500 euro before grant

    • Add a Huawei 5 kWh battery for 4,500

There are some extra scaffolding costs in there due to height of roof (3 story).
