Im in the interdepartmental and open stream but only have the requirements for the interdepartmental. When you're called for interview does it state which stream it is?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Seny92

If you are successful at interview you will get a new order of merit for both streams. There is one interview for both streams.

Anyone know what batch of OOM they are up to for interview invite ? I am OOM 359 for Dublin & OOM 22 for Carlow and haven’t heard a peep! I’ve been offered a transfer down the country and trying to decide whether or not to take it.

Doesn't appear to be much movement for interviews for the smaller counties ☹️ in it for the long haul ☹️

When your hear from carlow will you post here I'm also on carlow in the 50s

Got the word, I'm gonna be in the Dept of Justice. Was in the open stream in Dublin in the 70s

    Congratulations and best of luck

Congrats! You happy with that Dept? Did you express any preference of Dept? How was your interview, anything like some of the horror stories from some other users?

I've been sent the interview panel and it appears my panel will consist of 2 gardai and a PAS representative.

Seems likely I am headed for the Gardai civilian staff or maybe department of justice, or is it just a random panel?

I am 250's in Dublin open and have interview next week.

Sounds more like Garda Civilian staff if Gardai are on the board. Best of luck.

    Panels are random

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 cnmjb92

Thanks All. I’ll give an update if I get any movement. I think it will be after Christmas for my OOM for Dublin and Carlow it looks like it’s just a waiting game. Interview panels are completely random. Interviewers are usually senior staff or retired senior public sector staff.

Hopefully Justice. As far as i'm aware there is talk of staff in the Guards eventually working directly for An Garda Siochana and not the civil service.

Since the start of the month I've seen 10 EO positions open up in my department but yet PAS aren't calling for interview it's wierd

I applied for PAS EO Competition when it opened & also applied for Revenue Administration Officer AO (Audit & Compliance) comp in August. I got OOM for EO comp & have not heard anything since (I'm outside Dublin!). However last week I got an email to say my Revenue AO application had been shortlisted & I have been called for online interview this coming week! According to previous threads it seems most EO's get promoted to AO & this is how most AO's are actually appointed. I am thinking perhaps this may be contributing to the delay with the EO comp interviews... I am just speculating but thinking if perhaps they will promote a load of existing EO's to AO in Revenue & then they can interview & replace these EO's with new candidates from the EO comp..Just a thought! PS.. Any interview tips for AO comp would be GREATLY appreciated! 🤔🤞

Has anyone heard anything about interviews for eo through Irish? I am oom 4 and 8 in Leitrim and sligo.

I was at a meeting recently where we were told our branch are getting new EOs in the new year. There is at least 10 vacancies.

Has anyone heard anything of Louth?

  • Registered Users Posts: 330 ✭✭rostalof

Applying for an EO competition through PAS and an AO, Audit and Compliance competition with Revenue will have absolutely no effect on each other. The AO competition, although advertised via Public Jobs, will be run by Revenue. Revenue and PAS don't share competition details, so one won't be aware of your application with the other. A lot of EOs are successful in AO competitions, which are generally open competitions, but to say that most EOs are promoted to AOs is untrue. There are way more EOs in the civil service than AOs. In fact, AO is probably the grade with the lowest percentage of staff overall in the civil service.

Which department are you with if you don't mind me asking ? Im assuming Revenue or Social Welfare if there are so many vacancies ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,442 ✭✭✭Dohvolle

Your assumption is correct, but its best for everyone not to reveal department on social media, unless PR is your job..

Had my interview today. The board were really nice and I really felt they tried to help me when I got a bit stuck. Not sure how it went or that I got everything I needed to in but overall it was a positive experience and nothing like the last one. Best of luck to everyone else that has interviews over the next couple of weeks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 430 ✭✭Sparkles:)

That's great I'm glad you had a good experience! (Certainly made me feel better after reading some of the horror stories earlier in the thread)

    Fingers crossed for you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭Iggy1986

Well done, glad it went well! Is there 5 or 6 competencies now? I did the interview in 2018 and had 5 at the time. People management, analysis & decision making, delivery of results, interpersonal/communication skills and drive/commitment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37 Just1more

I had my interview yesterday and can echo the comments above, the board were really nice and made me feel at ease. I did start running out of time as I was talking about complicated situations, hopefully it doesn't go against me.

They said I'd hear back in 2-3 weeks.

    Best of luck to all

How soon after getting assigned to a Dept should you hear from the Dept with specifics like; unit , start date etc? I’d like to know what I will be doing :) & when to give notice etc.

Best of luck to those going to interview / waiting on results.

  • Registered Users Posts: 49 Hanfam11

There is 6 competencies listed, the first 4 are the main ones are people management, analysis and decision making, delivery of results and interpersonal and communication skills. The last 2 are specialist knowledge, expertise and self development, & drive and commitment to public service values, they don't really ask for a specific competency for these and wrap them up together, just a few questions about the public service values and if you have plans for future education etc.

Thanks for the comment! & for clarifying! It's good to know. I just saw it mentioned in another thread but I wasn't sure as I have no previous experience of these CS procedures!

Hate to be that guy but, we aren't meant to reveal anything about the questions asked etc... there were a few warnings about this throughout the process and you never know if someone in PAS is reading this thread!
