Don't get what everybody have against Porch

His final action in our 22 showed how much quality he has

not perfect maybe but good player

we didn't lose this on on the backline but with forwards. Out-powered.

    Potential team for the weekend:

    Dooley DTM Bealham

    Murphy Fifita

    Prendergast SHL Boyle

    Blade Hawkshaw

    Bundee Farrell

    Porch Hansen Ralston

Would personally like to see DTM start, nothing to lose really. Haven’t been impressed by Heff.

Would like to see SHL in for butler or Boyle.

Would like to see Hawkshaw start at 10 and get The minutes out of Blade while you can.

Want to see Mack get a run at 15

Hadn't realised how short they are at 7 bar Oliver. Could really do with Óisín McCormack breaking through this season. I would like to see Niall Murray start. Fifita's heft is probably useful but he looks very average generally.

Agree on Fifita and also think there's a huge upside to Murray. Before Oliver made the 7 jersey his own, Jarred butler was playing there a lot. I assume that's what we'll see in SA (does anyone know if SHL has played at 7?). Is it too much to hope that McCormack could be brought out next week as part of the reinforcements?

SHL was playing 7 in NZ last season, started there against castre and came on there last weekend. Think he’s more open side than 8 tbh

Yes that's where I see him playing. Butler will be covering 8. We're still short an 8. could Murphy do a job at 8 ?

I don't think there's any bad feeling towards Porch, quite the contrary. Some months ago we discussed that he could improve in defense, and he does need to tighten up on his discipline, but broadly speaking he's probably been our most consistent back three performer for the last couple of years, let's leave Mack aside as he's only been here a year. He was one of the few decent performers on Saturday, but that was noted up the thread...

Good to see Tierney Martin getting a start, pity he is due away on that tour next week but enough said about that at this stage.

Farrell Ralston seems like a combo that will either click or be disastrous, hopefully the former….

Stormers have gone with six two split on their bench, will need big impact from ours to get anything out of this.

thats quite a beefy and mobile 4 - 8, hopefully they can ensure speed of ball as that 11-15 can do real damage.

The bookies -10 in favour of a depleted stormers team is a bit generous in my opinion.

Connacht are playing a reserve side. They should be very competitive. There should be no excuses.

I wouldn't say reserve side; it's not entirely dissimilar to the squad that played a lot of last season's URC for them.

They're still calling on Marvin Orie, Evan Roos, Paul De Wet, Manie Libbok and Senatla on the wing who looked sensational at times last season. They've included some promising enough youngsters and some guys from their sevens side.

Obviously not full strength, but not a reserve team either. They'll be formidable at home.

Stormers are more than the sum of their parts to be fair. But yes, would expect a competitive showing at the least.

Be interesting to see how DTM and McNulty go. Two positions that are really there for the taking if they can stand up. Looking forward to seeing murphy and Murray together but not sure if they’re heavy enough against South Africans. Would have thought Bundee starts

    That's beyond criminal defense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

    Poor kicking from Fitzgerald costly

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭testtech05

Butler saved our bacon there after some poor kicks by fitz

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,341 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

You have no chance when you make basic mistakes like that from McNulty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭testtech05

Let off there that they missed the easy 3. But again all from a very poor mistake by us this time Oran Mc. Been hoping for a big game from him today but he's had a poor enough first 20 mins

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

    Tierney Martin impressive so far.

Much better in the last 5 minutes

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭testtech05

Best bit of play we have had this season so far but just a bit of try line fever at the end there. Stormers pretty cynical a couple of times too

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,450 ✭✭✭Wegians89

Connacht mixing shone decent stuff with some shocking stuff. Contrasting dates for DTM and McNulty. Bundee could make a big difference early second half

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭testtech05

I don't understand with the new rules around being held up over the line why teams are persistent with one out runners.

Not really a knock on by bucks in the replay but have to score from that pressure overall

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Attacking maul was going well two penalties off it already another penalty and a yellow was coming, crazy to go away from it, don’t understand how game management like that never seems to get better

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,450 ✭✭✭Wegians89

Blades kicking game is so much better than marmions

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,465 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Gotta make the most of this ten minutes. If we don't I'd be very worried about how this will go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,465 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Maul has been excellent. It's starting to look good now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,128 ✭✭✭testtech05

Finally got in well done in the end. DTM very sharp so far

He's had a couple of great ones for sure but a couple of poor moments aswell. Sums up the team really, good moments mixed with bad.
