Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Brown water coming from hot/cold taps (not cold mains)

    Hi - hoping someone can help or has heard of similar issue before. Been having issue few months where light brown water will come out of the

    • Hot tap in kitchen (not cold mains)
    • Hot/Cold taps in bathroom

    Every morning appears and will flush to clear colour after about 20 seconds but will return if left unused for a few hours. I have had the following checked;

    • Tank in attic - clean. Plumber came out and inspected. Suggested it might be heat exchanger from the Combi boiler
    • Boiler & heat exchanger checked by RGI and confirmed no issues and must be a plumbing issue.

    Any ideas what could be causing the build up of brown water? I also tested the tank water by boiling it and mixing with cold water and all comes back clean. From research, thinking it might be iron, filling value or rust in pipes (boiler and plumbing is only a year old - all new from when we bought the house).

    Appreciate any feedback! Thanks

    If the hot and cold water are from a pump ie cold water storage tank to combi etc then perhaps pump material wrong ?what make/model pump do you have?

    This is a common symptom of a holed coil in a cylinder, but seeing as you have a combi, it's unlikely that you have a cylinder?

    How was the heat exchanger in the combi checked? Was it pressure tested?

    I would contact Tucson or reps to ensure that this pump is suitable for pumping mains water, its not clear to me if it is.

    Also take a sample of water from as near the pump suction and discharge as possible and compare them with a sample fom the cold water storage tank.

    Got it sorted. Tucson engineer came out yesterday and replaced the pump (problem with some component and also the settings on the old model). Ran water taps for 10 mins yesterday to clear any remaining discolouration in pipes and now its all clear!

    Really appreciate the ideas and support on this one, all. Thanks a mill!
