so the double is still on for the Barrs after todays hurling semi finals. for a neutral both games were a little disappointingly one sided but no doubt the 2 best sides are in the final. all city final one for the traditionalists

I've had a fancy for the Barrs for a while, they really have gotten their act together.

Same old rubbish our tradition will win us All Ireland's.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

At least we have a tradition in Cork.😀 That song by the Beatles When I'm Sixty Four springs to mind, when i think of Waterford hurling. It will be sixty four years next year, since your most recent senior all Ireland win after all! It'll probably extend into sixty seven and sixty eight years as well, by the time the demented poison dwarf is finished with ye.😁

Tradition has spooked limerick against yee lately..

Ye had tradition but yer nearly turning into.meath now..

We still have 30 all Ireland though to Limericks 11. Form is temporary but class is permanent. Look at the Barrs, they were a sleeping giant for years in both hurling and football, and now they're back with a bang in both codes.

The Barr's a young coming team ,will they bet the Rockies?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,687 ✭✭✭thesultan

Your theory makes no sense as Limerick have hammered Cork even though yee had tradition but are possibly outside the big two now considering their lack of All irelands recently in comparison to Tipp and Kilkenny..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Tipp have only been winning all Irelands in fits and starts since 1965. They did of course win an all Ireland as recently as 2019 though. Cork did have a winning tradition until we became soft, and started crying and moaning about other counties being too rough and physical.

I hope so they've been down for way too long. Even teams with great tradition, prestige and history, can run into barren periods. Manchester United only won three FA Cups, in the years between 1969 to 1989. Cork hurling was in a bad state in the early 1960's as well.

Blackrock thought they were the stars, 'til they met the St Finbarrs

As a Rockie I hope not ;) That line of song has been around for longer than any of us have been alive, so I am looking forward to a now rare 'traditional' final. It would be great to have a crowd down the Pairc like they used to in the 70's.... I think we'd be doing well to bring in 15,000 but you never know!

The after party in Moks, or Church Road will be massive whoever wins.

Looks like Waterford have stolen a march on Cork hurlers by snapping up Donncha O' Callaghan.

How did the Cork County Board allow this to happen.?

    Would'nt have happened in Frank's time.!!!! 😉

Donna will gain experience with his Ielands Fittest Family buddy, before Davy undoubtedly crashes and burns.

Might be an option in a few years time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,687 ✭✭✭thesultan

You haven't had them crowds since the seventies, although the west Cork boys did bring 30,000 to the park in 93 or so.

The Barr's seem a coming team. They did get hammered a few years back by the Rockies but seem a stronger more nature unit now.

How will the Cahalane's do against alot of their team mates in the football?

Between this and Davy Fitz, i thought the county board in Waterford were supposed to be broke!

I'd say all neutrals want the Barrs to win. Some clubs excel at hurling, some excel at gaelic football, the Barrs have a winning tradition in both, and have supplied plenty of great players to both Cork hurling and football teams over the years.

JBM, Charlie and Gerald McCarthy, Con Roche, Ger Cunningham, Ronan Curran, the late John Kerins and Christy Ryan, Mick Slocum, Paddy Hayes, Michael Shields and Dave Barry.

It's the only club in Ireland to win all Irelands in both hurling and football as well. Our three most recent senior all Ireland hurling winning (JBM, Donal O'Grady and John Allen) managers, were all Barrs men as well and Ger Mac was Cannon O'Briens assistant in 1990.

I have to go back to this, of course it wouldn't have happened in Franks time. As if Frank would have a former rugby player involved with the Cork hurling team!😁 Rugby and hurling are two completely different sports. One of those sports is actually good, the other one is well erm how shall i put it not so good.😁

Barrs do well in the last 15 to get over the line v Haven. They'll meet Nemo in the final.

I think it's the 8 time they've gotten to both finals - first time since '93.

  • Registered Users Posts: 401 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Was in at the double header yesterday - Nemo once they got on top we dangerous looking. But Ballincollig did keep it interesting for longer than expected. Mark Cronin was very good on the day & Conor Horgan really stepped up when the game was still in the melting pot. Luke Connelly was his usual enigmatic self - some outrageous play/scores & some head scratching moments (missed a 21 yard from from just left of center, 30/60 seconds later pings a 45 over the blackspot...)

I know it's hard to compare but the 2nd game between the Barrs & Castlehaven felt like it was a different animal... The pace & power on display by both teams seemed a different level from the first game. Both teams forward lines looked dangerous every time they got the ball. Sherlock, Meyers-Murray & especially Hayes looked very good (Maguire just goes without saying at this point - usual lung bursting runs). For the haven the 2 Cahalanes out the field (Damien & Conor) were good & the 2 Hurleys. One noticeable thing was Barrs strength in depth - they brought on subs that definitely didn't weaken the team, The Haven had 1 or 2 on near the end (Minihane I think especially) who looked totally gassed after putting in a huge shift, if they had a stronger bench he probably would have been replaced sooner. Barrs though should have had 2/3 goals in the first half...

Mourneabbey 0-7 Ballymacarbry 3-7. Ballymac deserving winners but it was a poor showing from Mourneabbey. Misplaced passes, dropped balls etc

I think this would a good appointment if it turns out to be true.

Any talk on the senior final?

    Will the Barr's have enough?

I've had a feeling that the Barrs would go close and I think they are very well balanced team and squad.

    The double could be on.

    Munster SFC 2023 draw

    QUARTER-FINALS

    Tipperary v Waterford

    Cork v Clare

    SEMI-FINALS

    Limerick v Cork/Clare

    Tipperary/Waterford v Kerry

Of course we can't take neither Clare or Limerick for granted, but really we should be looking at playing Kerry in the Munster final at the very least. Ideally we go into it after two comfortable wins, but again i repeat we are in no position to take any team for granted.
