Time to toughen up, as the wind wuthers and the rain drums.... Actually it feels so familiar I don;t mind, lol... Grown "nesh" in the lovely weather... (old North of England term for soft, and NOT a compliment)

Heavy hard rain and I see we are set for it to last and last today.

First fire of the season hereby LIT ... A landmark day..

I like autumn but this Sept has been a disaster in Dublin.

We are at 120mm already for month and it's still raining today.

Feels very cold aswell for the time of year.

The difference is awesome for one country.Out here on the West Coast hardly any rain all month and good sunshine,, The best September I remember in many a while. A real pleasure of a month. Last night the first real rain in weeks.

We had a mixture of nearly everything this month in Leitrim. Turned cooler quite quickly over the last couple of weeks mind.

The lawns need cutting but the grounds too wet at the moment.

Really later autumnal seasonal weather now. And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when. I'm stuck in a Portlaoise Prison and time keeps dragging on.

I'm looking forward to winter now. For some reason I expect something really big in terms of winter storms or snow and cold.

An overcast, cool and dampish day in southern Laois. 0.8mm in the AWS since 10am and temperatures hovering at 11c in a west to northwest breeze around 10mph. A real feel of mid-Autumn/late October out there.

My house is hanging on to the last vestiges of summer warmth in its bricks, wont be long until the heating needs to come back on. Debating whether to light the wood stove this evening.

I lit the solid fuel stove and the difference! Spartan living has its limits... Sheer bliss now even with a smalla amount of coal used. Bliss!

Showers and sunny breezy spells in Kerry today, not bad , cooler today but pleasant in the sunshine , cooled down quickly tonight , currently 9.8C from a high of 13.8C. Havent been keeping a close eye on the manual gauge but this evening cleared out 23 mm for the last few days .

thankfully we're beginnng to lose that extreme chill of the past few days. Today should be a lovely day in most places and feeling milder too. Tomorrow will be a bit of a write off but after that it certaintly looks milder compared to the past week.

hard to believe that this day last month we still had a drought going on and everything was brown. September this year brought an almost immediate flip from Summer to autumn right on time as we entered the 1st/2nd of September. Pouring rain outside in what has been a very wet month for most parts of the country notably during the opening 10 days of the month and plenty of rain overnight to add to the already high totals. It's been unseasonably cool as well but we are about to turn milder as we head into October. Dunsany sitting at just over 115mm of rainfall for September and that doesn't include any of the rain that fell last night and this morning.

Fingers crossed October will be alot drier. The temperature anomaly for Dunsany is now just 0.1C above normal which will make September the coolest overall month compared to normal we've had in over a year.

Blustery wet morning. Farming commentary yesterday for the next 7 days mentioned varied rainfall across the country. Drier than average for the south and wetter than average for the North with 85mm at Malin head and 17mm for Cork airport.

Provisionally, Dublin Airport has finished September with 128mm of rain, making it the sixth wettest on record and the wettest since 1976.

162mm is a remarkable total for Cork for the month of September. I would imagine most of it came in that biblical spell of rain we had in the first week of the month. All that after 14mm in August and 28mm in July.

Just goes to show that in this country, even in a drought, rain is never too far away.

Despite all the rain, the ground is still quite dry; I would imagine that much of the initial heavy rain after the drought broke just ran off the rock hard ground and didn't soak in.

September finished up with 126.4mm of rain for September at Dunsany which makes it the wettest month since July 2020. Probably the poorest September we've had in a while with so much rain and that very chilly second half of the month. Despite the chill the month finished up average in terms of mean temperature being 0.1C above normal, due to the very mild to warm first week of September.

This post reminds me that Dublin Airport also finished with a mean of 13.0C, which is 0.1C below average. This feels like a big feat considering what has been going on since June 2021.

Very wet week ahead for some and sunshine will be below average.

The past week has been drier than average for the east and south with rainfall totals between 39% and 79% of average there. However, rainfall was around average or higher to the west and north, with accumulations up to 160% of normal.

A predominantly southwesterly airflow over the coming week will steer Atlantic fronts across the country, with rainfall most frequent in the west and northwest. As a result, it will be wetter than normal across most of the country, with accumulations expected to be between 120% and 295% of average. However, rainfall along eastern and southeastern coasts will be close to average.

Most places have been somewhat duller than average over the past week with the exception of the south coast, where sunshine amounts were around average. The north of the country saw the least sunshine, with 8.7 hours of sunshine recorded at Malin Head, Co. Donegal (50% of average). In contrast, 26.8 hours of sunshine was recorded at Cork Airport, Co. Cork (101% of average). In the week ahead, conditions will often be unsettled with any sunny spells quite limited. As a result, sunshine amounts are expected to be below average.

Lovely Autumn day to be outdoors, great sunshine this morning checking for wild mushrooms in the garden with the youngsters, a bit cloudy in the afternoon with some mist on the coast but cleared and had sunshine for the evening. Got up to 16C. Farmer with fields across from me busy making bales this evening, been fine growth the last few weeks with plenty of rain but the ground is still firm enough for working on it. Glad to get my own grass cut too before the wet week coming in.

Probably not on low ground but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sperrins had some in 1919. Met É do mention snow has been reported in September before. The only Septembers I am aware of with snow in lowland UK are 1885 and 1919.

Last time I remember snow in October was 27th October 2018. Was very early in the morning, only temporary slight accumulation on cars,grass and roofs. Bit of altitude made a bit of difference though, here’s 150m that morning
